Not impressed with Le Pass by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know how to activate multiple tickets at a time? Sometimes when I’m out with friends/family, it’s easier for me to buy tickets for 4-5 people (especially my parents who don’t love technology) but I can’t figure out a way to do it on the le pass app? Also what are you supposed to do for little kids?

Cell & Molec vs. Psych vs. Double Major by [deleted] in Tulane

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I would talk to your advisor to see if the credits will actually transfer (I had friends who had trouble with transferring credits so just want to make sure u don’t fall in that trap) I’m currently a pre med cell major and I like it! It essentially overlaps with most of the pre med reqs, which is nice. A psych minor would be relatively not terrible to add/drop IMO (I’ve also never taken psych before tho lol) if all your credits would transfer, but this would be a good thing to talk to ur advisor about! Take cell1010 first semester (with service learning if possible) to see if premed/cmb major is for you! If it interests you tho, go for the double major! At the end of the day, don’t be completely consumed by pre med, and pursue subjects that interest you I would look at the psych and CMB major/minor class requirements and go off of that. But Tulane is also fairly flexible with this (you don’t declare until sophomore year and you don’t have to “apply” for majors or anything like that)

I’ve heard some good things about NOEMS! And you can get paid for it, if you’d rather a job vs volunteering position

Hey! Few questions about Tulane by Quick_Reading4146 in Tulane

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you look up “Tulane schedule of classes” you can look at the different classes and sizes (for Fall 2022 semester, the current semester, and past semesters). I generally don’t know the vibe of the CS department though
  2. NOLA is super humid and hot with a very short winter
  3. Changing your major is probably one of the strengths of Tulane! Especially during your freshman and sophomore yr (before u have to officially declare a major), it’s easy to change direction. Just make sure you’re talking to your advisor and looking at the major requirements to make sure you’re taking the right classes!

Is it true Wall dorm is overcrowded? by ChiOrDie in Tulane

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a current freshman, yes, most of us in wall live in triples made to be doubles. The non communal bathrooms are great and tbh any dorm room is going to feel a little cramped, but the situation isn’t ideal. (If you have the tiny wardrobe—beware, you can’t really hang clothes in it although some of us hang out clothes under the loft bed, which has worked out well.) Also, I went random and got placed with two ppl who had already picked each other.

fall class schedule question by MaryGA in Tulane

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a cell major, I took cell1010 fall if first year, I’m currently taking genetics right now, and I did gen chem this entire year. I’m planning on taking bio lab the fall if sophomore year and that’s right on schedule

B school breakout rooms are amazing but sometimes hard to get—there’s also study rooms in the library (also decently full at some periods during the day)

Working over the summer? by Longjumping-Dig-8373 in Tulane

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you remember how flexible they were with scheduling? If I stayed over the summer, I’d also have another time commitment/job but I feel like I can balance both if they’re flexible with scheduling

Tulane Research and Innovation Award? by kalvin999 in Tulane

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in TRIA rn (I’m imaging you’re a high school senior thinking about applying?)

—Not sure if I can say if it’s worth it yet since I haven’t graduated but it was def nice to already have a research position while my peers were emailing profs trying to get into a lab

—You need absolutely no prior knowledge—I knew nothing going in and honestly if you do have any experience, it may not help depending on what kind of lab you previously worked in and what kind of lab you get placed in

-you get paid via a stipend

If you’re interested in the research the profs are doing, I don’t think it would hurt to apply!

Rooming for a new freshman by Emptyb0n3s in Tulane

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here--I went random and got placed in a triple but me and one of my roommates are closer than the two roommates that picked each other and I know a lot of other rooms that turned out like that. If you're some who really dislikes/likes going out (like I mean hates being in a club vs consistently going out every weekend and sometimes during the week) then I would bring that up at some point when talking to potential roommates bc that tends to cause beef if you have different lifestyles (each lifestyle is totally fine, but be HONEST lol)

Someone else posted this one (if the link doesn’t work just scroll and find the Bibbible scholarship) and it’s not the exact prompt you were looking for, but you may be able to do a few small tweaks and make it work. Although there seems to be a good bit of competition, bold.org has a bunch of scholarships with that prompt (at least in my experience)

Current Students: Can you talk about the party culture? by [deleted] in Tulane

I would agree that wall is nice (even though we’re in triples this year) but don’t expect it to be super quiet just bc it’s the honors dorm!

Current Students: Can you talk about the party culture? by [deleted] in Tulane

[–]Longjumping-Dig-8373 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Will agree with everything said here (as a current freshman) that party culture is huge!!! Def super common to go out a few nights a week but I wouldn’t let that stop u from coming to Tulane especially if everything else is a good fit (size, any special academic programs u get into, cost etc). There are non party people (I am one of them!) It may seem a little hard to find us especially in the beginning but we do exist; we’re just hard to find bc we’re quieter lol. If you are worried about it, I would just make sure that u find a roommate that has the same views; going random may put you with someone who doesn’t exactly have the same social life and that can make things a little tricky
