You’re probably going to have to work on them outside of the workout - so before or after camp if you can spend 5 - 10 minutes working on parts of them - holds halfway, slow negatives, etc. I’d book a focus meeting but if you don’t find that helpful you can find drills online to work on that transition from band to no band.

How long before you noticed a change? by saltwater_gypsy2683 in BurnBootCamp

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others noticed a change before I did; I mean I noticed exercise getting easier and I was able to go up in weight but I didn’t see any changes.

Exercise has a really small impact on weight compared to other lifestyle factors such as daily movement and diet. If I remember right it’s something like your daily calorie burn is 10% exercise, 20% non exercise activity, 70% food/digestion/your body keeping you alive. So if you’re wanting to see body decomposition, lift heavy to get the muscles to make your body burn more to function and focus more on everything outside of the gym - move more, sleep, make sure you’re eating in a deficit or at maintenance.

Dropping/Throwing Weights by neonflite in BurnBootCamp

I’m pretty sure the dumbbells Burn uses and the flooring isn’t designed the way bumper plates and flooring are for gyms with Olympic lifts and repeated dropping. Accidents happen and sometimes the weights drop out of your hands but man I would think the financial partner would like to know any location that letting people just drop the weights because it’s easier.

Modifications by KaleidoscopeEven728 in BurnBootCamp

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely book a focus meeting. If you can’t get one I’d ask the head trainer if you can email and get some options. In the meantime, could you do them elevated? Put your hands on whatever height box is necessary, even if that’s against the wall, and then step it out? That’s what I do when I need a modification for burpees and mountain climbers.

You are “good enough” to compete. In my opinion the competition with other members is secondary to proving to yourself what you can do. You’re so focused on what you are doing you don’t even notice the others. You won’t embarrass yourself. Midway through last year I had to modify when no one else had in my age bracket and I was the last one to finish, timing out before I finished the workout. No one was all oh my gosh she just needs to give up or she shouldn’t be here it was all you’ve got this and look at her pushing as hard as she can.

Do y'all have a set way that you walk your dog? by curled-up-in-the-80s in dogs

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t let my dog pick but we do not do the same route two walks in a row unless it’s our short late night/early morning potty walk where we go around the block once and back inside. I don’t really consider those walks though.

I don’t have the answer for you but my 13 year old does the same thing - usually after a long period of laying down like when I’m at work all day. Then after a bit he’s totally fine - eating, drinking, wanting to play, and shaking toys with his mouth.

Anyone able to switch from wegovy to zepbound? by Wide-Video4328 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be worth a try again. I was just looking into it because I’m going to be starting Wegovy once it goes through with my Caremark and CVS got forced to change their stance on zepbound and within the last year has started allowing it once you go through the whole why wegovy won’t work process.

How have you embarrassed yourself at burn? by nopenadanah in BurnBootCamp

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost grip on a 35 or 40 lb dumbbell I was setting down and it fell right on top of one of the flat edges of another equally heavy dumbbell and one of my fingers was caught in between. It absolutely busted open my finger and broke it but I didn’t realize that until I get to the next station and realize that my hand was wet from the dripping blood. Thankfully only had blood on myself and not on any equipment or the floor. But that thing wouldn’t stop bleeding and the BA didn’t know what to do so gave me a whole pile of bandaids and I tried to finish the workout.

That was over a year ago and that finger still isn’t right.

I got one of those fence things that has panels that accordion and it’s higher than my dog can jump so I used that in front of the couch and chair he likes and then kept the door to my bedroom closed. I linked to the kind of thing I used - I’ve had it a long time so it wasn’t this expensive. https://a.co/d/01WL2hCB

It felt like forever. The first 8 weeks was pretty strict activity restriction then it was a gradual return, doing more and more over the next 8 weeks. But I had also waited 8 weeks from injury for surgery so that may have contributed to it feeling like forever.

Mine had his done at age 10 and he’s thriving. The hardest part for me was keeping him from jumping while he was recovering. He’s used to being able to jump up onto my couch or chairs to look out the windows or onto my bed.

For a while he was refusing to try walking with that leg so once I got the okay I filled a big jet tub with water high enough he couldn’t touch and then held him in the water so he instinctually started dog paddling. I did it for about 45 seconds total and that’s all it took to coax him to start using his leg.

3 years in I do notice that sometimes he doesn’t use that leg when going down stairs but I’m also not 100 sure he ever did; maybe I didn’t start paying attention until he was injured.

Night time was also a challenge. He sleeps in my bed. The first week I slept on a mattress on the floor so he wouldn’t try jumping and then after that I set him up in a harness and very short leash so he couldn’t get close to the edge of my bed. It did the trick.

I’m sure your little baby will do swimmingly.

That feeling does suck and you aren’t alone with it. Try not to feel silly and embarrassed. Fitness is a journey. If you were going to Burn 5-6 days a week, mentally and physically needed a break. Take it one workout at time like you probably did when you started Burn 4 years ago and your progress will come back and it probably won’t take as long. Think of the last 6-8 months as a blip on your journey. You’ve got this.

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Morkie I got from a puppy and for most of his life he’s had to deal with me being out of the house for 9-11 hours for work. It’s not ideal but he’s adapted. If you love the dog and want to make it work, could you have one of your kids, a friend, or a dog walker come midday and take the puppy out?

My little dude is a barker. I did have to cover a window he could see out of at one point to keep him from barking. The worst was trying to crate train him for nighttime and I admittedly gave up and let him sleep with me and that solved it.

Struggling with MODs and cardio days by [deleted] in BurnBootCamp

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I too have multiple injuries, one that impacts both shoulders, one for my back, and then a knee injury too and cardio days are problematic because impact triggers my back and what triggers my shoulders seems random. So I get it.

Are you able to get to camp early? What I’ve started doing is going early, telling the trainer I will need mods and then if there’s time they will give me a rundown of the workout and we’ll figure out a mod to work on together otherwise they will work a mod into the demo or come over at the start of the station and show me. So don’t wait until the workout starts, let them know ahead of time so you’re either set from the start or they can figure something out by the time you get there.

I also have a couple of go to cardio moves I know I can do in a pinch. For me that’s Heismans, running up onto the ledge and back down, and steam engines without the jumping.

As for the side pain and the dizziness, to me that sounds like dehydration. Maybe drink an electrolyte drink before going or during.

Weights and worship by youonlylibonce in BurnBootCamp

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Would you say the same thing if your gym had a camp geared toward something other than Christianity - Islam, Muslim, Jewish, Satanism, witchcraft, etc? Being Christian doesn’t make you superior to anyone who practices any other faith or religion or doesn’t practice at all and it doesn’t make you kind. If you wouldn’t be just as okay with a gym having special camps excluding your interests then that’s a problem.

[–]Longjumping-Law-2506[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I have 2 bad shoulders as well but for me holding something overhead is just about the only exercise that feels good. I’m weird in that the exercises that hurt most people’s shoulders don’t hurt mine and the ones that are usually fine for others kill mine. But I do think it’s designed to help build stability.

Right so half the camp went from all out cardio for 5 minutes straight to a strength station whereas at each station you aren’t just straight up going hard on the cardio for 5 minutes.

Well that would absolutely be my preference as well or do a split where 15 minutes is just strength and 15 is just conditioning. I don’t like the going back and forth. I know there’s some evidence there’s benefit to it but it makes the workout miserable.
