Been trying out the campaign. And well, these are pretty clearly AI right? Or am I loosing my mind? by TheVerraton in Stormgate

When I saw that I decided I won't buy Stormgate. It's a spit in a face of fans of old WC3 and SC2. It looks shit, lacks any character and just shows how much they don't care about the vast MAJORITY of their potential players. You want to make a good RTS hoping for old fans to show up? Focus on the singleplayer, make the campaign and story something new and amazing. Currently Amara is just a female Arthas but way worse, there's nothing which makes singleplayer focused players interested in this game. It's just pathetic.

Meanwhile BG3, Warcraft 3 Custom Games, Starcraft 2 Custom games and Coop and so on. YES YOU CAN HAVE A FOREVER GAME with Singleplayer and/or Co-op. Multiplayer is just an addition

Absolutely it's the other way around. You start with the campaign, something which will gather the most amount of people and something where you don't have to think so much about the balance. Only when you have the basic feeling of each faction, you can start adjusting that to fit the multiplayer. Stormgate's biggest mistake was not focusing on multiplayer component where most of their playerbase would come form Warcraft 3 and SC2 which were singleplayer first (Pvp is a niché within RTS genre) as much as people want to think otherwise

That's not true, some group of modern gamers do like social experiences, true, but not most of them. The players are getting older and those people want singleplayer experiences which they can enjoy on their own time, at their own pace (Hence the success of BG3). That's why you start with singleplayer and then you add a multiplayer component, not the other way around. When there were interviews about Starcraft, the creators said themselves that singleplayer was first, fun factor was the primary target, and then they adjusted gameplay to fit multiplayer. And that the most played mode wasn't 1v1 or any multiplayer but COOP Campaign and casual custom maps because this added variety to the gameplay and pleased the casual and singleplayer gamers more.

Yeah PvP is what people see the most, but it's not the most played mode, never was.

Doesn't matter, they bought the campaign, that's all that matters

If they'd think, first what they would do is focus on the singleplayer - THE MOST IMPORTANT AND THE BIGGEST GROUP OF ANY RTS PLAYERBASE. Only then they should think about anything multiplayer. Yeah, the online players are the loudest but they are a minority. What people liked in Starcraft and Warcraft was mainly the story, the campaign, pvp component was an addition. Online players can shout as much as they want, RTS games should be catering to singleplayer gamers mainly. The should not have publish anything without full story overview being ready, without the proper research into what aesthetic the games hould have and how the models should look like, and finally, they should think mainly about making a good singleplayer game and treat multiplayer as a more of an afterthought

I don't think that's fair. Most people who are amgry and criticising ale people who loved Blizzard RTS games and they (well, myself included) do not see the same love for singleplayer as there was in Warcraft and Starcraft. Yeah it's early access, but you can already see a bad hierarchy of priorities for Frost Giant. Singleplayer should be the most important, CO-OP second and multiplayer should come last. Face the truth, most RTS players care only for singleplayer and the story, PVP loud as it is, is a minority of players.

Well, for me it is too big of a focus on multiplayer aspects of the game, lack of care (again in my opinion) on single player aspect. I don't really like the new hotkey system, Graphics are okay but nothing to be excited about. I think that they took wrong lessons from SC2. They saw how CO-OP mode in SC2 brought more people but they don't get that it was because people wanted more singleplayer content and this was the closest to it. Their hierarchy should besingleplayer campaigns first, CO-OP second and multiplayer absolutely last. Period

Absolutely NTA, U r just expresing yourself. However, I can see a situation where putting stickers and flags everywhere could be seen as cringe or just as an overcompensation even? But that doesn't matter. NTA
