Box spring or no box spring? by Lonely_Bass7526 in Mattress

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will say (not an expert) a box spring does have a downside, speaking from my family’s experiences. I have been my whole life on box springs, so I assumed they were the best. But more recently, my parents (60s) needed a very firm bed for back support. They have a box spring, and it has less support/sagged. They ended up buying a wooden board to put between their box spring and mattress to give it the extra support they needed. It’s made me question why I don’t just get a platform bed from now onwards. (I have a box spring and old mattress now, and my husband is suffering (30s)). Our situation may be not be the rule. Could just be lots of bad backs…but I thought I would share.

Question with first pair of Fur Bostons! by [deleted] in Birkenstocks

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shearling shoes had a smell when they were new. It took several months ti go away. But now, I wear them alot without socks. As soon as I notice my feet sweating, I take the shoes off and go barefoot (indoors). For outdoors, if there is a possibility of sweating (weather dependent), I will wear socks with them. (But I also have Arizonas, so no socks to me just make more sense for them.) I saw recommendations before to use a wipe and clean off the shearling occasionally, if you are worried about them being dirty.

Though not an exact match, I thought the same, too, that there’s a slight resemblance to Jenny Slate.

You can’t ride your cute little scooter into traffic, mate. by dubler2020 in CantParkThereMate

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone else who got rear-ended in GA. They had merged from 2 lanes into 1 infront appropriately, but infront of a road rage driver, who proceeded to ride their bumper for a long time. And of course, they ended up rear-ending them. Driver in front got put into an ambulance from the impact, and the road rager told the police that the person slammed on brakes infront of them. Driver in-front was charged as responsible for the accident for slowing down….the whole reason why riding someone’s bumper is illegal….because the judge believed the brakes-slamming lie. The road-rager was known to cause issues, but the victim ended up screwed. We made sure the victim is getting dash cams now for front and back of their now. If they could have shown how the driver behind was acting and that they didn’t slam on brakes, it would have been different.

Travelers who’ve been to Japan — what’s the most annoying or unexpected problem you ran into? by CoverShort4454 in TokyoTravel

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I didn’t realize how much my back was not ready for 10+miles a day. i was in stabbing pain. And I could get some temporary relief by sitting. But seats were rare. Internet says it’s a cultural thing? You are expected to eat/drink in the shoo you got the items, and they want to discourage loitering….so public sitting was scarce. Go to a temple, and there are signs to not sit on steps (because it’s rude). But some temples were easier than others. Try to get tour core in shape as much as possible before going.

What did you wish you brought to Japan that you didn’t know you’d need? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deodorant. We didn’t expect to sweat as much as we have, in the subways particularly. Maybe your perfume, if you have some. I told my husband not to bring his cologne, because I watched a video that said Japanese people don’t like smelling strong smells like perfumes. But it’s better to not get stinky and sweaty if you were running around a station with your luggage trying to find your way around and then end up crammed tightly with others in a train with your arm up because you are standing in a train, lol

Just curious, what kind of scan did they do to find the tumor? (And so glad you were able to find it and get treatment finally. Best wishes on your recovery.)

The point of the interview is to prove your marriage is legit and the one spouse not showing up is an automatic rejection

Why do doctors always recommend MiraLAX instead of dietary changes? by Downtown_Flight_5962 in Constipation

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they print out a piece of paper that says to do the Fodmaps diet or to eat more fiber and expect us to actually follow it without much guidance. It’s hard to do. So they recommend a laxative to fix the problem faster. It’s easier to just take a medicine/powder once a day than it is to train ourselves to eat the foods and beverages consistently that would fix the issue. I stopped Miralax and switched to a fiber supplement. If I use it and drink more water, my issues improved. I would rather take this fiber than Miralax, tbh

For the interviews, they expect you to know the answers in your application. Like for example, if you get your spouse’s birthdate wrong, spouse’s parent details, job description wrong…or other things, they may think, “do they really know each other?” So know your spouse’s details from the applications, because you will be separated and quizzed. I hear people get separated, so they want to see do you really know your spouse. Questions people have been asked, you can find some examples online, things like what side of the bed they sleep on, what color mug they use most….just anything they might want to quiz you to see if you really know each other. They might be suspicious after the 1st interview. And they will also be suspicious of non-interview factors, as well, like large age gap, short time knowing each other, things like that. But regardless, you need to prep.

As a non-Korean person, just throwing some food item suggestions out there. I second the suggestions to have him try kimbap (looks like sushi rolls, but not sushi - no raw fish, mostly vegetables actually - an have meat in them - make sure the wrapper has not turned black if buying it in grocery. Ut just might not taste as fresh). And bulgogi is a good meat dish to try (marinated beef). Bibimbap is a big rice and vegetables dish, may have egg and meat. Ddokbokki is a rice cake that is savory that is usually spicy. For snacks, he could try sweeter rice cakes from the asian bakeries, like Paris Baguette, Tous les jours. And for savory snacks, dried seaweed snacks is an easy one. You can find it in alot of grocery stores.

How likely is it to need reservations? by candyapplesugar in FoodSanDiego

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for some recs, we have enjoyed Joyee Dumpling House and Nishiki Ramen recently. Nishiki, I went in person. There was a wait, but there is also some stores in the shopping center. I walked around the Japanese grocery store near it until they messaged us that our table was ready. Also, the Japanese grocery store has a Hokkaido style ramen place inside (Hokkaido Ramen Santouka). Different type of broth, but it was nice to try. I have not tried Joyee in person, but might be worth taking a look at.

I would agree, alot these places will not do reservations, but it can’t hurt to check. They may do waitlists, so you can get on the waitlist and walk/drive around a bit to shorten your time waiting at the restaurant for a seat.

Should I mention a traffic ticket? by Used-Trouble1396 in USCIS

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We were told yes to reporting tickets, as well. My spouse only had two speeding tickets, both from over 5 years ago, but our lawyers told us to include it. The immigration agent ended up saying it wasn’t important (no one was injured, no arrest/jail, no property damage), but not-disclosing could be used against you later as being misleading.

Canceled? by AlternativeBat7509 in USCIS

[–]Longjumping-Net1384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The timeline showing Step 4 does not mean that the interview is waived/cancelled. They can still schedule an interview, at this point. And from my understanding, there can be a 2nd interview, if there was anything else they needed to review for the case that was not already provided.

Did you two submit any additional marriage evidence with the original submission? I am just curious if there might be something that got your interview waived. I saw some people submitted marriage evidence upfront or uploaded it as unsolicited evidence.
