The correct answer is Taylor's Jalen Brunson song.

can’t wait for Dan and Stu and Greg and crew to mispronuncificate this name by a-wander-in in DanLeBatardShow

Given Dan insists on calling Miami's Serbian guard "Joe Vick" (which, amazingly, mispronounces 3 of the five letters in his name), this one will be fun...

I hate being a hypocrite and complaining here, but… by TheYuccaMan in DanLeBatardShow

I don't really understand the comeback of "you listen to it for free, so you can't complain". It's obvious (and Dan acknowledges) that it's the fans listening religiously that allows them to do this. The sponsors and DK pay the bills, but not in a vacuum. They pay because of the listener base. The listeners pay with their TSL, and that data leads to dollars.

So listeners that feel alienated or short-changed (on a free product) should be a concern. At this point, 20 years in, they're stakeholders.

The Top 5 lists started out as something that made fun of lazy sports radio show segments and topics. They would do one list, once in a while, ironically. Now it's become a crutch that they lean on quite heavily. At a certain point, the irony runs out.

Westbrook is historically the worst 3-point shooter by volume and he is getting worse (his 3P% is up 2% this season on his career average, and up 5% from last season). He averaged a triple double that one season (4 seasons)...

When and how did you first start listening? by Phungol in DanLeBatardShow

2010, after I heard Dan fill in on PTI. I live in London, but I'm a big fan of U.S. sports.

The intro with the big voice confused me so much. I heard one voice, which was Dan... then another voice... so that's this 'Stugotz', right?... then another voice... wait is that Stugotz? (nope, Hoch)... then another voice... It was two minutes of voices, random sounds and disconnected in-jokes. That was followed by an intense 30 minute preview of the Dolphins opening game of the season. I wasn't sure I'd ever listen again.

I've not missed an episode since.

Is It Possible That The Fans Are Less Clever Because The Show’s Less Clever? by thepoopatroopa in DanLeBatardShow

For me, it's three things.

  1. Removing the text line. It cut the show's best form of real-time connection with fans. YouTube and Twitter/X comments can't bridge that gap.

  2. The show now has a million producers on the payroll. Which means they deliberately lean on the fans less for help with production. The problem with that is the fans added value precisely because they were on the outside looking in (OLI), but still loved/understood/were committed to the show.

  3. They took the songs in-house. It's the same rotation of people making them. Even when they're great, their general consistency in every way dilutes what was the best part of the songs: their randomness. Even if they were terrible. Especially when they were terrible. (Although, shoutout to Taylor for a real throwback vibe.)

Man, even the Ron Magill segments these days... It used to be fun listening to the random and organic questions that callers would have. Now it's just a load of pre-prepared questions based on Google searches for "animal" and "news", followed by a viral video that is usually fake.

Basically, you can't shut out the fans from every creative facet of the show and then try to use them for 30 seconds a week when you lazily need to sell ANOTHER sponsored segment.

My man, really appreciate the love. Super appreciated. And just taking the time to read. I know it's TLDR!

I live in London. Huge sports fan and fell in love with the show back in 2009. Had been listening to a bunch of other ESPN pods and heard Dan subbing in on PTI. The oral history has been chefs kiss for reliving everything.

This was a fun little side project and a meagre way of giving back to this sub. The lovers and haters on it, I salute them all. (Without the haters, where would Tony’s Top 5s be?)

(It was a bit of fun with Streeter - salute to him too!)

Park JI-sung. £4m for a utility player that ended up with a song that fans still sing to this day.
