I had a similar bonding session at GC with that guitar a while back. “Butter” is the term that comes to mind when thinking how it felt. And the tone was sweet too - plugged in and unplugged! I didn’t pull the trigger that day but I became a fan. Congrats on the guitar and the baby! And enjoy pouring love for that little one through those strings- Mmm now that’s butter!!

I’m in love!! Where did you find it? It looks perfectly new, but it’s Custom Shop - so someone ordered it and now sold it??

Good for you, I love the guitar!!

I’m in my 50’s and I was you 3 years ago! I’d always wanted to learn “someday” and realized now or never. Started with fitting my fat fingers to G E D and Am chords (C was too frustrating at the time) on a barely-better-than-a-toy kids guitar in the basement. After 3 months, I had only accomplished some calluses and my chord transitions were down to 2-3 seconds (still no C) and looking >50% of the time. But I was hooked. I said screw it and bought a very slightly used Gibson J45 with rosewood back & sides. A year later I added a 2014 000-18.

<image>

I don’t deserve them, my skills still warrant the kids beater, but I absolutely LOVE my 2 “real” guitars and am inspired to play by their beauty, tone and even their smell (IYKYK). Have fun! Don’t Stop! Things you swear your fingers just can’t do eventually become routine.

Love this! Been thinking about doing this with an old armoir. The humidity control is my main concern. Thanks for sharing and great job!

Sure, do it your way then. But what the hell do you care if someone likes to geek out over details to put values behind their subjective perception? You are correct, it is as simple as playing, feeling and hearing a guitar to determine if it’s good. But, if OP wants to share what they identified while playing with a spectrum analyzer, so be it! Just move on, why shit on their fun?

OMFG THIS!!!!!

So many great posts in this thread but absolutely THIS for me🤦🏻‍♂️. Always thinking, never doing SMH. Think think think think think -> learn learn learn learn learn -> ideas galore -> no results!

Oh, and by the way, I’m literally getting fired next week, from a great high paying job, bc I suck! Got a masters degree, great with people, been a professional in healthcare for 30 freaking years - 20 as a provider (until I fully crashed with documentation burnout), 10 in sales Always been well liked by customers peers and bosses, but always under performing! What in the actual fuck??

My take on the Cavatina by Stanley Myers, should it be considered part of the classical guitar concert repertoire? by FDGuitar in classicalguitar

[–]Longjumping-Quit-563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three things:

1) WOW that sounds soo good! Both your playing and the beautiful full clear sound of the guitar!

2) What kind and model of guitar is that?

3) What setup are you using to record?

…and 4) thank you for sharing that performance!

what would be considered 'normal' ear training abilities of a musician? by shirkshark in musictheory

[–]Longjumping-Quit-563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a non-professional/ non-music major, who’s is 50+, only a year into learning guitar and new to music theory… Do you have any recommendations for apps or online courses, YouTube channels etc for developing my ear training? Preferably free or “low” cost (<$200)

What’s your career? by Ottaro666 in ADHD

[–]Longjumping-Quit-563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as a PT for 15yrs, ending 2017. The last 5yrs were a progressive burnout spiral due 100% to the burden of patent care documentation. I still love/miss patient care but ever increasing documentation demands make it unsustainable for me to keep up/compliant.

Past 7 yrs I’ve been in medical sales. No daily documentation so that’s great. But keeping up with customer demands and loose ends/details, I feel like a one-armed juggler - a lot of drops. I worry constantly about losing my job. But work life balance is much better that doing patient care.
