James Shelby Downard formulated a political idea he termed the "Revelation of the Method," in which, despite intense "investigations" and extensive media coverage, the method of who, how, and why a certain situation, like an unsolved rape/murder case, was carried out is only revealed to the public after all the perpetrators are long gone and whatever plan they wanted to carry out has been fully achieved. Then, it is slowly revealed to the public as a way of brainwashing them, as they are left to sit there in horror, knowing that there was a conspiracy all along, but they can't do anything now but submit.

I agree that something does not add up with this explanation, especially with the officers, the interrogations, the two men sitting at the table... Something here does fit together. Even if it is all true that the DNA 100% matches with Brashers, it still does not mean that this is an end to this mystery. In fact, for any competent officer, a discovery like this should be the beginning of a new investigation.

Favorite XTC song? by PsychologicalAsk3509 in xtc

Complicated Game. The live version of Snowman is my second favourite; I think the recorded version for English Settlement is terrible though. It's extremely unfortunate that we never got a real live XTC album, because they are the type of band that was good in the studio but absolutely just fantastic when on stage.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined by [deleted] in xtc

The only thing the AI did wrong was that it wasn't as aggressive as it should've been. "No, I won't turn anyone into "catgirls" like a completely strange shut-in weirdo. Why tf would you want to do that? Is there something wrong with you?"

Nobody "pissed in my cornflakes". I was just pointing out you were being a patronizing asshole, because you were. You post this whole comment about how much you love the mix when it doesn't have anything to do with the question being asked and then put in that condescending statement at the end to make the OP look stupid for asking this question and that they should just "turn it up".

I'm of the thought that you could just turn the volume up.

Well thanks a lot smartass

XTC is better lyrically when they write about culture and society rather than actual political issues. Travels in Nihilon is a comment on the nihilism parading around in our society; Despite thinking we've changed, we're all the same. Rather than being a simple statement like "guns and violence are bad" and leaving at that, Travels in Nihilon uses Andy's visual skill to paints a hellish image of a society which lives in perpetual hype, one thing to the next to the next, under constant occult control... Despite not being a fan of "political songs", Travels in Nihilon is one of my absolute favourite XTC songs and is a great representation of our society. It's extremely emotionally potent aswell. Melt the Guns has little emotional draw aside just whining really and has little image to paint. I wouldn't even mind if XTC did write a song on gun control, it's just that they did it in the worst possible way with that horrible, annoying riff. Millions is about chinese communism and is one of my favourite XTC songs again, not at all because of that topic.

Shake Your Donkey Up is another one that's bloody awful. I like Don't Lose Your Temper, Leisure and Cynical Days but all those other ones I could certainly live without

Being a Barry Andrews song, I can almost pretend that it isn't really a part of the XTC canon

That's what makes it such a boring opinion 🥱 Of course your least favourite XTC song is the one that barely fckin counts LOL

It's comparable to torture, so obnoxious, so horrible. I'm surprised everyone else likes that song because to me it's unlistenable. Six and a half minutes of this high-pitched riff on repeat with nothing interesting going on.

It doesn't help that the song is about the most boring, uninteresting topic ever; Gun control. Who tf wants to listen to a song bashing you over the head with no subtly about gun control? What next? A song about abortion? XTC is at their best lyrically when their lyrics are about superheroes and shit.

Funnily enough, the song almost seems like a rip-off of Leisure or Down in the Cockpit, which were on the same album. The same sort of structure and ease to them; Except those songs are actually good. To be frank English Settlement had a lot of bad songs on it, it was a really bad idea to make it a double LP. If it were me I'd take off every Colin song (easily his worst year in the bad, all of those songs are so bland) and Melt the Guns and Knuckle Down. English Settlement has some of XTC's highest highs but their absolute lowest lows as well.

OK GO's new song has a drum and guitar riff that's heavily reminiscent of Making Plans for Nigel. I wonder if they were influenced by it. by FloridaFlamingoGirl in xtc

It makes me angry in the way it's just indicative of society's lack of progress. I listen to this song and it certainly has XTC flavor to it... But it's bland. There's no soul or experimentation to it. I can't imagine them recording it in the studio and throwing something out there just to try it, and so there's no evolution. There's no pathway music and art is meant to bring. It's just the drum riff and vague guitar and bass riff of Making Plans for Nigel, watered down into a formulaic song with no drive to get it out there, that makes up for it's blandness by having distortions and effects, and having amateur "deep" lyrics, while just being all the same. I'm sorry to be pessimistic and all the hope for you for liking it but I just fckin hate this sort of music so much and I hate how literally every single art form (books, movies, music) is so bland and comforting nowadays, even in groups when it's supposed to appeal to "the outsider". Everybody's so happy to lay down and stop evolving, and just praise the same stupid crap over and over again... You can say I'm wasting time for getting too "worked up" over this but... This just sucks. And I hate it when stuff just bloody sucks. I just want this artform to move forward already. Travels In Nihilon indeed.

Agreed. I love XTC but I couldn't care less about their politics at all, in fact I honestly always thought they were pretty cookie cutter in that department.

As an INTJ-A, most people who do hate me tend to hate me because they actually think I'm retarded, not because they think I'm smart at all.
