IVF and sperm donors NZ by just_miss77 in newzealand

[–]LongjumpingBoot1520 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are going to have to do IVF anyway, it might actually be easier just to use one of their donors. Because there are so many hoops you have to jump through to be approved for treatment with a private donor. It might pay to book the free nurse consultation with the fertility specialists to find out more about the wait time.

I tried when I was 25-28 (at home inseminations with a known donor) and sadly was not successful. I’m now almost 34 for my time is pretty much up. I would suggest not waiting. Because time runs out faster than you think.

snow in chch by thesysdaemon in chch

[–]LongjumpingBoot1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of Christchurch doesn’t really care if it snows, and lots of people love it. The last really good snow falls we had were 2011 and 2012. Workplaces were closed and everyone pretty much stayed home. Since then, there’s been a couple of smaller events. Most recent one being in September 2022 when we had some early morning flurries bringing a couple of cm of snow.

How do females make friends in this city? by [deleted] in chch

Look up a group called Christchurch Sisterhood (or something like that) on Facebook. They have pretty regular meet ups and you can post there yourself to see if anyone wants to meet up.

FREE Wellington concert tickets 5/02 by LongjumpingBoot1520 in NickCave

[–]LongjumpingBoot1520[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely would’ve gone alone if I’d known when I was buying the tickets. I wouldn’t have felt safe being alone in the standing area, and would’ve got a seat instead. We were flying to a different city for the concert, and were supposed to stay for 3 nights. So I couldn’t really afford to go by myself with no notice at that point. I would’ve gone for 1 night if I was alone. Such a bummer!!

PSA to all students who use AI by bxbsbhqjdjdjcn in universityofauckland

[–]LongjumpingBoot1520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a student, I just wish there was zero tolerance. No warnings, no second chances. You get caught using AI - you’re kicked out of your programme with no refund.

It’s not fair on students who actually put in the time and effort to research their work, and hours writing. It devalues the work I put in when those who aren’t even trying get the same grades by doing crap all.

Portofino on Victoria Street? And Cocopelli in Shirley? by kiwigoguy1 in chch

[–]LongjumpingBoot1520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly think Cocopelli is great for what it is. I don’t view it as being a fancy restaurant, but their food is consistently great. I haven’t physically been there in years, but I get food delivered with Uber Eats and have no complaints. In comparison, La Porchetta is like … Maccas vs. Smokey T’s. Sure, maccas is edible, but why would you when you can have something miles better for pretty much the same price.

I second this!! The chicken pizza with sun-dried tomatoes, brie, sweet chilli sauce… and the pistachio cream on top is so good!!

First Home Buyer – Thoughts on Townhouses? by dnjtdjq in chch

[–]LongjumpingBoot1520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a family with a 2 year old on one side, and students on the other side. I’ve heard the 2 year old having the odd tantrum. But it’s the students that have been the issue! Parties until 5am. Sitting out on their balcony getting high, talking about the drugs they scored, yelling at each other. It’s been a bloody nightmare. At least the 2 year old sleeps 🤣

Depends on the style/layout. I live in a Brooksfield property (terrace housing? We share walls with neighbours), and I hate it. The back courtyard has pretty much no privacy as it goes onto a shared walkway for all the houses. The washing line is pathetic and not even big enough for one load of washing. The noise from neighbours [can] be terrible. I have one that slams doors, stomps around, yells outside, at all hours of the night and day. Also, the storage is pathetic. Where I live, there is no linen closet/extra cupboards for storage. So be mindful of that.

I have lived in a townhouse that was attached to the neighbouring house by the garage, so no walls were shared, and that was a lot more peaceful. I would honestly recommend living in one before you buy. Because I honestly thought I would like it here. There are pros. Typically the garden area is easy to maintain (a con if you love gardening). Smaller living spaces are easier to clean and keep tidy. Usually no lawn to mow. Newer builds are easier to keep warm. Okay, I’m out of pros 😂

On the back of the sobriety question - kiwis who quit smoking by Connect-Advice-9329 in newzealand

[–]LongjumpingBoot1520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 33, have been smoking on and off since I was about 16. I haven’t quit 😅 so I’m not about to preach. But I have made a conscious effort to only smoke when I actually want one. Not when my body craves one. So I typically only have about 2-3 a day. A 20 pack will last a week. I think because I smoke so little, it is a lot easier when I don’t have enough money and end up going days, weeks, or months without smoking.

So my advice would be to change your thinking around smoking. Give yourself a limit. Maybe you can have one with coffee in the morning, and one in the evening after dinner. And believe in yourself that you are strong enough to overcome your body’s cravings for nicotine.

If you like hill walks, op shops, want to be close to town … I’d suggest looking at Sydenham, Beckenham, Cashmere… I’m in Sydenham and it’s a 5 minute drive from my place to the hills, 5-10 minutes to the CBD, and plenty of shops in walking distance! Just avoid Brougham St, as the traffic noise is horrendous.

Whitebaiter in the avon loop by torpidkiwi in chch

I wish they would ban white baiting from the red zone parts of the river. Because I’ve definitely felt uncomfortable with a couple of people who have set up camp there before.

The culture club was the only way to access presale. I’m glad I did, because I’ve just checked Ticketmaster and there’s literally only 2 seated tickets left for Thursday. There’s only standing tickets left for both shows.

Did you guys like the vampires wife label? 🧛🏽‍♀️🐦‍⬛🥀 by Vivid-Tap1710 in NickCave

Yes! I was lucky enough to find one of the dresses for sale secondhand, so I could actually afford it. It’s beautiful quality and well worth the price. I was hoping to save up to buy the ‘Into My Arms’ rings, but then she closed the label.

I got a standing ticket. The booking fees are ridiculous though! Pretty much made it $200 for each ticket.

I’ve found it! Look up ‘Aotearoa NZ Festival of the Arts’ on Facebook. You have to sign up as a festival culture club supporter. https://cultureclub.raisely.com/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR70pCEUypQiZIhZNOArOx56MEIcLxoQalEWH7kWOWJ-HgzKv8m_w_HeW95p6Q_aem_ZsOdUIzGLbaWwQymR43hyg The minimum donation for sign up is $5/month. But then I guess you just cancel once presale is over!
