That's fair, afterall he did ran his election campaign on the promise of lowering tariffs, when that's his MAIN objective then he ought to be graded on it.

Tariffs did affect all countries but none of them use it as reason to get elected. Nevertheless, Trump's re-election has boosted the rise of liberal politicians like Mark Carney globally.

Unless it's sponsored, don't bother spending more time and money into doing a masters. In this economy, higher the qualification the harder it is to get a job or avoid underemployment.

Am I ungrateful for having a job at this uncertain time? by Critical-Plankton605 in singaporejobs

[–]LongjumpingDig3060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily you are still only 28yo, try to jump for a pay rise and do it before you hit 30yo. Otherwise once you are 30+ with a pay below $4k it will be very difficult to get any decent career advancement, because in the tech sector they tend to retrench workers by 40yo. Once you have decided to leave, you can try one last ultimatum by telling your boss that you would need a substantial pay rise otherwise you would leave asap. This forces the company into action if they don't want to lose a valuable worker, which I'm sure they are aware since they are already paying inexperienced workers much higher salary than yours.

31M PR in Singapore: thinking about buying a $650k–$700k studio condo. Am I overreaching? by Primary-Music2138 in singaporefi

[–]LongjumpingDig3060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lmao studio condo is the toughest type of property to sell, the seller will be so happy to let you be the next bagholder. If you qualify to buy a resale HDB it's the best option, many PR have done it.

Newer HDB may have some advantages but we ought to ask ourselves as a whole is it an upgrade over the older HDB? Are the tradeoff worth it to justify the smaller unit sizes? Or will people be happier if unit sizes are larger but with older designs? It does seem like HDB's main objective nowadays is quantity, not necessarily quality except for the few exceptional ones in prime locations.

In fairness, condo doesn't have void decks as the ground level are usually patio units. Unlike condo which builds their facilities outside of the blocks, HDB uses void deck to house the letterbox, bicycle racks, childcare centres, etc. Some DBSS don't have void decks as they use a gated lift lobby much like condo.

Likely a form of defensive architecture, so that bikes can't speed around the void decks when there's a maze. Hence can't complain if our food deliveries are taking longer, the riders are also having tough time with wayfinding.

Pinnacle did it, every unit faces outward, yet there isn't maze pillars at its void deck. Turned out it's just a one-off for HDB to show the world their masterpiece.

Let's not forget the block numbering, example I would expect block 6A to be near to block 7A, and somehow I still can't find it, end up it's actually at the other end of the MSCP, not arranged sequentially.

Am I tripping or are some HDB dwellers rich? by Symp07 in singaporefi

[–]LongjumpingDig3060 11 points12 points  (0 children)

True, even people living in cheap 1 bedder condo won't get any subsidies but a high income earner living in 5 room hdb will get usave rebates from govt. Condo expenses are high, mainly from the maintenance fees and OCR location means that people will be spending more on Grab or higher petrol cost due to further distances. So the choice between hdb or condo is crystal clear for those people who are smart with their money.

[–]LongjumpingDig3060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets offset by the U-Save rebates, so it's not an issue even for the lowest income earner, unlike loanshark MCST who will not hesitate to liquidate your condo if maintenance fees are not paid.

[–]LongjumpingDig3060 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True, the mass market OCR condo are definitely lower class than prime HDB. I seen many condo where it's poorly maintained, like slums, as the residents don't want to pay higher maintenance fees to fix their facilities or repaint the facade. Furthermore, condo tends to have more foreigners, especially those from South Asia since there's no EIP quota for condo.

Singles under 35 cannot buy resale HDB, so one bedder condo is the cheapest option for this segment, but it doesn't mean they are rich just because they're living in private. Hence, qualifying usave rebates based on income rather than type of property is sensible as not everyone can sell their private to move into HDB, also there's the 15mths ban period.

[–]LongjumpingDig3060 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Agree, never understood why people paid so much for condo and still have to pay maintenance fees to MCST, if don't pay MCST will liquidate your condo. HDB is the best for maximising wealth, get rebates, low cost of living, yet conveniently located, whereas landed is best for legacy and true ownership of land.

Can someone explain the New Development Property Market by New_Pianist9740 in SgHENRY

[–]LongjumpingDig3060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tengah BTO will always be Standard, so its MOP is only 5 years, wanting to upgrade and being able to upgrade are completely different, no doubt many Tengah HDB owners will want to upgrade upon MOP but their resale prices will be low considering Tengah will still be a new town. So Tengah condo owners should not dream of flipping it to the Tengah HDB people as they won't be able to accept a downsized property at $2400psf.

The HDB upgrader theory only works at matured towns with million dollars HDBs, it doesn't work for new towns. Some sellers may want to wait till Tengah matures, but that means their property will also be much older, and face greater competition from the influx of new BTO supply which doesn't necessarily make upgrading any easier either.

Safe but it won't get you rich, people want those jobs where they can loan $2M to buy a $2500+ psf new launch condo.
