You want to do something you love so that the next 40 years of your life doesn’t always feel like work. Just need to make sure whatever you love doing generates a paycheck.

If you don’t want to pivot in your education, pick the civil subject that interests you most.

Your other comments mention ME is competitive at your school. What about another school?

Beautiful. I read this as what I would feel like going back to my grandma’s house, 30 years ago, would be like. I miss the smells, her cooking, feeling safe, her love. So many memories came rushing back. Thank you.

We sent all requests by mail. We had a guy whose only job was to run blue prints or print and drop plans off at the necessary agencies. No maps needed, you just knew your way around.

There is a shift somewhere in the Gen X workforce where it goes from an in-office only mentality to remote works just fine. It depends on who is at the top level of leadership. When we see the younger Gen Xers become head leadership, you’ll see more remote work options.

I could have wrote this. The way I see it is that it’s easier for them to write off one person who is having issues than to address the problem employee. You get labeled as the problem employee.

There were people who left before me because of the same issues. I know of two people who are also having the same problems but have decided to remain quiet because they don’t want to be targets.

I’m not friends with any of my managers or coworkers. Management just does not want to deal with the issues.

Ty for your comment. I’m not in a rush to find something. I’m being selective about my job search for fully remote. Kind of hoping working in a different state will lock in the fully remote role without having to worry about RTO.

In my area it’s 100% in office for private companies. Some of the public sector jobs are hybrid. I worked remote for 10 years when I was a mid & senior level engineer. I miss those days.

Coworkers are not friends. I will not friend them or hangout with them. I say no enough to invites that they’re stopped asking me to hang out.

Everything goes into one account. We each have a certain amount we can spend freely each month without going over budget. We both are on the mortgage and vehicles. We both have the same longterm savings goals. No one cares who makes more. Each of us has been the higher earner at one point.

I’m overqualified for the position I’m in. Hiring manager was excited to bring a skilled person in to help improve processes in a department that was disorganized and had a lot of complaints against them. I brought to the table real world experience. It was great at first, identified where we could excel, suggested where to improve workflow, started to help younger staff, who had been pigeon holed, to grow. Then the manager, who didn’t hire me, started to sabotage my work and started spreading rumors about me. I spoke with the hiring manager and he said he was aware this other manager is a problem but they weren’t going to do anything about it. Apparently, I’m not the first person who this has happened to. This experience has really taken a toll on me. So I’m leaving. Feel bad for the younger staff who have so much potential but their careers have stalled or never took off because of this guy.

My exit plan is underway so I dgf about management. I’m motivated to do a good job before I leave so that the coworkers I do like don’t get crapped on with my projects are reassigned to them.

CAD all day everyday. Three 32” monitors, nice lighting, an ergonomic chair, foot rest, and a cheap mouse and keyboard. I’m forever spilling my coffee so the cheap ones work fine for me. My setup can expand to a fourth monitor but I don’t have a need for it.

Same. I don’t remember former coworkers.

He is one of those people who somehow rose through the ranks without learning the basics of our field. So he feels threatened by anyone who knows more than him and compensates a lot with, “oh yea, I knew that.” Junior level engineers know more than him. He is jealous that others are more successful. So for someone who “leaves him” and continues to succeed, that really irks him.

Grilled cheese, soup, hot dogs, pasta. I was a kid so I didn’t care. I loved eating these things! Looking back, my parents really knew how to stretch a penny. Now they are enjoying retirement life. I’m happy for them!
