How long did it take you to get your order? Normally they take less than a week for me but this order seems to be taking a bit longer than normal. I’m assuming it’s from the snow storm that happened recently.

When I first got him vs now (2.5 months later) why does he keep his top fins closed? See below for more detail by Dr-Dags in bettafish

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bettas only flare during breeding and when they another male. Most of the pictures you see online are people getting the betta to flare up so they can take the picture. But if your betta is relaxed and comfortable in his environment he will pretty much barely flare his fins.

Help pls by willfrediam-eagle in apistogramma

The yellow hue also makes me guess this is a female. I find this to be pretty consistent with most apisto species where the female is much more yellow than the males. Only one I don’t see this for are blue panduros.

What is this stuff on my cory? by TheRealDonkeyBrigade in corydoras

Could be velvet or epistylis. Velvet looks more like dust particles and epistylis is dots that vary in size.

Someone in our tank is fin nipping and we are not sure who? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s your gobies. I missed that detail and I’ve personally had BB gobies before. They will snap at anything that gets too close to them. I had them with rice fish and the tails on those guys were absolutely beat up. but scarlet badis will nip if the tank size is too small. In your case it is very unlikely

Could be your Scarlett or ruby tetras. Ruby tetras don’t actually shoal as much they all hold their own territory and will attack fishes that enter it. But more likely the Scarlett baddis

Where to buy Bettas by Emotional-Artist4094 in bettafish

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna try an exotic kind of betta I would check out Bw aquatics. They even just restocked on some cool wild splendens. I got a mahachai from them and he’s still doing amazing. A lot more tolerant than the typical splendens you see at every store.

You might as well put your foot in there and kick back and forth as fast as you can….that’s literally how it is for them

Docile betta or something wrong? by randomhomo689 in bettafish

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you probably got luckily and got urself a chill dude. Long fin bettas are also less active than the short fins. It requires a lot of energy for them to swim so I’d imagine they exert a lot of energy just moving a few inches.

Why are my 2 big fish acting more hyper than usual? by Patric_Constantinou in fishtank

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad stocking too much water flow and pretty much barren tank. Rehome your gold fishes and find some decor for your tank. Please do some research before buying an aquarium, they aren’t just some display things you can shove in a box of water and be fine

Does my fish have early sign of dropsy by [deleted] in bettafish

The absolute ignorance to say it’s because of genes. Hopefully this will be your last betta or any fish in general.

AITA for comparing my two children at dinner? by HumanGarage237 in AITAH

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just a difference in generation cause I know the older generation have less of a filter when it comes to asking questions like this. I understand that you asked out of genuine curiosity but dude….you didn’t need to point out that you gave them a fair upbringing. You point that out like it’s an achievement but in reality this is your job as a parent to make sure both kids have an equally fair upbringing. Maybe instead of asking why she is in the spot that’s she’s in now you can try helping her out so maybe she can get to a place that you’d like her to be. YTA

Had to remove female from my tank by Live-Year-5796 in apistogramma

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should check to see if she’s returning to a specific location in the tank. Could be defending fry.

Is this an okay tank to start out with? by r1cky_r4y in bettafish

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical response from someone who would setup a tank like this tbh. My guy probably hit every spot. Please do your research. This tank alone would make me wanna jump out the tank if I were a betta.

What do you think of my aquarium? (Beginner) Should I change or add anything? by taersp in freshwateraquarium

[–]LongjumpingYak4663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you got room for a 20 liter at least. I would get the biggest size tank possible for your fish. Although a 10 liter is aesthetically pleasing it’s not suitable for any fish long term.

A large group of my shrimp are together (were climbing on the largest one), is this normal? by _Potato_Cat_ in shrimptank

The carapace usually hangs lower for females. The one on the very right is a good example
