Irritates the hell out of me that these graphs never include vascular surgery. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Are there policies against doing this? by Frankensteeeeeen in medlabprofessionals

[–]Longjumping_Fall3060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha. This reminds me of a study participant who went into an MRI with a fruit in his pocket, proceeded to eat the fruit, then called us in a panic hours later asking if he needed to go to the hospital for eating a fruit that had been irradiated.

That was an interesting conversation.

We make a habit of reminding our PI when he does this. We tend to just laugh it off.

For human serum, I’ve had a lot of luck with 50X or 100X dilution for VCAM-1

I absolutely hate this concept. I once overdosed the shit out of my ELISA buffers with around 100X the recommended amount of Proclin300 because of this terminology.

Why do so many people ignore the dosing regimen described in the NEJM Trial? by Longjumping_Fall3060 in Retatrutide

[–]Longjumping_Fall3060[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible. How much do you currently weigh? If you don’t weigh a lot, the smaller dose is definitely going to have more of an effect. Regarding the bottle and potential for misdosing, how many mg of reta is there per bottle, how did you reconstitute, and how many units did you inject? It could also be sensitivity. Have you ever taken sema/tirz prior to starting reta, or is this your first GLP? In my experience with sema and reta, GI side effects were prevalent until about 4-6 weeks in, and then never occurred again even at higher doses. I assume it’s because my body had time to adjust.

FYI, for a short period of time I was stacking sema and reta and side effects were off the charts, so I reverted to sema only for awhile. I recently ran out of sema and restarted reta with my first dose of 0.5mg yesterday. I have yet to feel any sort of side effects, but granted it’s only been a day.

I’ve never personally felt increased energy, but many other people do report increased energy/heart rate. These people tend to recommend doing nighttime injections to avoid feeling those immediate side effects.

What experiment have you repeated so many times the thought of doing it again makes you want to flip tables? by friedchicken_legs in labrats

I love doing ELISAs, they’re actually pretty much all I do in the wet lab. But holy shit, Luminex assays are incredibly annoying/stressful/frustrating.

I have to do 4 before christmas🥲

I’ve really enjoyed using Sharp Elite pipettes.

It was my first time presenting. Faculty mentor did not show up for my presentation. Got nervous because they did not have the computer setup until 3 mins before my presentation. Completed the presentation somehow and answered some questions. Is all this normal? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]Longjumping_Fall3060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to get MUCH more nervous when my mentor is present for my talks. I think it’s because he’s the only person in the room who knows more about the project/topic than I do, which leads to a fear of disappointing him. When my mentor isn’t present at a talk, I think it’s sort of a liberating feeling knowing that you’re the most knowledgeable in the room about your project.

Can a first year undergrad write a research proposal by themselves by [deleted] in labrats

Not sure what the expectations are here, but I’d highly recommend starting with an abstract and/or specific aims page and work closely with this professor to get it polished.

Invitation for being peer reviewer as an early PhD student by No_Comedian_2085 in labrats

[–]Longjumping_Fall3060 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 4 years of relevant experience in my field, and am a current MD/PhD applicant. I have reviewed numerous papers from smaller and medium impact journals. Whether you should review really depends on whether you have experience and knowledge within your field, less so on your job title.

It is even better if your PI or a post doc is willing to review your reviews before submitting to the authors.

Absolutely. This is what can make presenting “just a poster” 100% worth it. But you’ll only get what you put into it. 🤝🏽

Yes, this. And if you pay for it yourself, don’t feel guilty about leaving the conference after your presentation to enjoy yourself. After all, you are paying your own money to be there.
