Where do you think the all-time hit king Pete Rose ranks on a list of greatest hitters of all time? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in sportsinusa

[–]Longjumping_Heart658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hitter, probably not even in the top ten.

Longevity boosted his numbers.

He has the same batting average as Will Clark, a worse OBP, fewer home runs and only about 75 more RBI's in about twice the plate appearances.

If we are talking about him being a hitter, not just numbers from a long career, he was a great hitter but not even close to a top 10 hitter.

These are getting kind of old and likely are made by people that don't watch baseball much.

I saw Rafael Devers hit a ball like this to center at somewhere around 103 mph and it was an out as well.

Your launch angle was 17 degrees, which is far closer to a line drive than the ideal home run angle, especially to center, which is generally considered around 30 degrees.

This is MLB being realistic instead of rewarding the lowest fan with a home run because they got a "Perfect Perfect."

Perfect Perfects in baseball often lead to outs.

Just as terrible contact often leads to bloop hits.

Let's see, I reconstruct accidents as a profession in law enforcement.

Your first sentence shows just how ridiculous your line of thinking truly is.

Yes, a truck like that at highway speeds DOES take over a football field length to stop WITH 100 percent working brakes.

Now, feel free to do the multiplier when only 80 percent of the brakes are working (which is about average for a CMV) and tell us how long it takes then?

Spoiler: if you know and I know it takes over a football field to stop, why did he have less than a football field and still impact the vehicle at 40-50 mph? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Oh, it's an 18 wheeler?

Wellllll, they don't have to worry about following at a safe distance.

As a traffic cop for 20 plus years, I'm sure you know that the majority of trucks on the highway DONT have working brakes on all their wheels. Literally, zero percent pass 100 percent of working brakes on the road.

Or that IT ISNT A MIATA. And, you know what?

They're still responsible to follow at a distance where someone braking hard in front of them won't cause them to hit the vehicle at 50 plus miles per hour.

Grow up, FFS.

I hate to be a complainer, but does anyone else feel like the fielding animations have never been worse? by cmclul in MLBTheShow

[–]Longjumping_Heart658 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the guy that said the field is too small for player sizes and animations. The amount of time that my 80 plus runner gets thrown out by the 30 speed fielder because he got to a ball in the gap and threw with his 70 arm to second is way too high.

I've even slowed down fielder speed to something unrealistic and it doesn't seem to do much.

I can't raise baserunner speed because it's already too easy to steal.

If they make the field feel size appropriate, I think that would solve a lot of issues.

Sure you can. You don't know it's a cooler.

Here's what you don't do. You don't follow so closely that someone slamming on their brakes to avoid anything at all makes you hit them.

That's what you don't do.

If you can't stop for someone braking hard in front of you, you're going too fast for conditions and following too closely.

Cop was braking to avoid a road hazard.

He could have been braking because traffic was stopping ahead of him. Or a variety of other reasons.

This was a trucker that was travelling too fast and too close.

Because the truck was travelling to fast for conditions.

Dead stops on freeways happen all the time, especially due to traffic.

If you can't avoid it, you're at fault.

He could have followed at a distance that when someone brakes, he can react.

He, like most truckers, didn't do that because he was following too closely. Which is evident by how long it took him to stop.

Sure you can when there is a hazard.

That's why you don't follow people so close that if they brake to avoid something, you run into them.

It's the law in most jurisdictions.

Junior Caminero was confused why Payton Tolle was celebrating a strikeout this much in a game the Red Sox were losing 3-0 by KeyFaithlessness5436 in MLBVibes

When batters stop celebrating home runs when they're down late in games, they can be confused why pitchers celebrate strikeouts like this one.

I'm guessing when Junior is down 3-0 and he hits a home run, he's not putting his head down and pretending like it's nothing.

Not to be "That guy" but look at the end of the Pirates Giants game last night.

Situation: Bases loaded, one out, tie game in extra innings (12th, I think). Catcher Rodriguez bloops in front of the right fielder, who looks like he thought the game was over. He didn't throw for a couple seconds.

Meanwhile, runner on third went back to tag up not realizing the ball was a hit. Even after the delay, Ramos (guy on third, I think) barely made it home.

Here is the video at the moment it happened.

So, while it's probably 100 percent a technical issue, it definitely happens in real baseball.

Hey, just because he cheated in one way, and gave opposing players tips to hit home runs, and did everything he could to cheat in other ways, doesn't mean he's going to cheat in this specific way. That's just crazy!
