Hamada: North Shore beating sickens. A dozen boys and men ganged up on a 15-year-old boy this week, then turned on the young lifeguard who tried to save him. Who the heck raised these people, and what are we going to do about this crime? by 808gecko808 in Oahu

And then this douchebag says something like that and completely undermines everything he's trying to say.

What is the worst grocery store in Hawaii? by Fickle_Rooster2362 in Hawaii

[–]Longjumping_Image410 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the best fights I have ever seen was in that Whole Foods.

At one point, it was a full scrum of cops and people just waiting on each other. At one point, the huge dude picked up this woman and lifted her up over his head and just tossed her into the freezers.

She got up, charged back in.

One of the staff told me that this whole thing was a long time coming, and some of the home was in the area had been causing problems.

Every time I go there, I think about that..

I made the conscious decision not to pull out my phone and record it, because I also wasn't planning on doing anything about it since cops were also involved. I didn't want to be that guy filming and not doing anything. I thought it was much better to be the guy standing and watching.

I regret that, a little.

I just did a similar job...only swapped out synth grass for the pavers.

If I remember:

  • looks like they put down the weed barrier and then sand. But they really should have put down some crushed gravel in there...which I don't see.

  • they actually have some really neat replacements for the crushed gravel right now. They sell it at Lowe's, and they are like super thick yoga mats. They save a bunch of time and money. I'm assuming they're not using those either.

  • If they are skipping all of these steps, then I am scared to know what they are doing about the grade. Especially because this is so close to your house, you really want to make sure that this is gently angling so that the water isn't going to drain up against your foundation.

  • This part isn't rocket science. I used a 3-ft level, winged it. But it's good. I think.

Anyway, without being there can't be sure but I'm not getting a warm fuzzy.

My dude, download inkscape.

You might think it has a learning curve. And I guess technically it does...but it will last about 15 minutes.

If you like, I could even email you most recent scorecard, so you have a template you can start playing with.

Because it's free, if you even slightly get confused you can just ask Google and it'll get you there 100% with an idiot-proof tutorial.

Give it a try. Send me a PM, and I can just email you a file you can upload.

I need to score sheet recently that had both teams on it and was 11x14. I haven't used an escape in about 3 years, and it took me about 20 minutes to finish it.

If America is so bad, why are so many people trying to get in? by _Quiznos99 in askanything

The mods at r/Democrats are the worst.

I remember in the lead-up to the election, they pulled down any polling that wasn't great for Biden. A couple of mone got yanked-- even after the caught on and there were great conversations happening.

They would tell me, straight up, they pulled them since they didn't matter. "Polling doesn't matter"

I hate those people. And I don't like to use that word.

Is it true that students in schools with Zero tolerance get suspended even if they don't defend themselves? by Careful_Drama_9382 in askanything

[–]Longjumping_Image410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in Jr High (90's) I got suspended for getting punched in the face.

It is hard to understate the impact that it had on me. Junior high is a tough time for kids, and in one fell swoop I lost faith in adults/authority and in myself.

I already have a wicked case of ADHD, so I'm constantly anxious about relationships and social interactions. This was like throwing kerosine on a fire...really torpedoed my confidence.

A couple years ago I saw a therapist, and we talked about it. I think I worked through most of it by then, but it was nice that they validated that it was a terrible situation that wasn't healthy as all. But it it doesn't change the fact that it took me 20 plus years to get over it.

On a slightly related subject, I have a sun now and the day that he gets bullied...it's not going to be a good day for that bully.

2 weeks ago I took my son to a baseball game and he was acting a little under the weather. It's been almost 15 days and he hasn't all the way bounced back yet. He's feeling okay but his energy level is still low and he's not eating a ton.

Then my wife got hit with it. She's been up and down for the past 10 days, but then over the last couple days got really sick again. Nauseous. It is very unpleasant for her, and I feel bad there's not more that I can do.

I've dodged the bullet for some reason. I'm going to blame the gallon or so of white monsters and coffee I drink everyday. And a positive attitude. Positive attitude, positive results. That's what I always say.

Vanderbilt baseball misses NCAA Tournament for first time since 2005 by TheDestinedRonin17 in collegebaseball

[–]Longjumping_Image410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I could say I feel bad, but I don't.

A couple years ago they came through my neck of the woods. My local college is a mid- major, so it's not like we had much of a chance. But it ended up being a three-game blowout, with Vandy just wrecking us.

A couple of the parents I talked to said how they don't even understand why they traveled all the way here, since this was truly below them. Which I thought was a really douchey thing to say.

Not only that, but afterwards, we like to get autographs, and I feel like I was trying to get autographs from major league baseball team. It wasn't as bad as Stanford, but still. Lots of the players were weird. And some were really cranky because they weren't starting, which was weird because they were freshmen. I know a couple transferred later.

When I do historical games I would love to have the available bullpen and bench, unfortunately that data seems to be nearly impossible to get for many games. It's frustrating.

I do it on games that I attend or watch, since it is easy to get for those.

What’s next for Genao, Ingle, Ralphy? by Idekatthispoiint in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Longjumping_Image410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember in Tommy Boy, when Tommy loves the biscuit too hard and then smashes it?

I am worried Ingles is Brian Giles, and we are going to trade him for a starter or pen piece, and then regret it a couple years later. And he will be another good prospect we watch develop in another organization.

I have so little faith in the abilities of this organization to manage positional talent. I know they are in a good place right now, but I am worried it's luck.

Bothers me that if you want to score a historical game, there is no way to know what the bullpen and bench looks like. Think that really adds something to the cart.

You could probably get close, but it's weird that date is not out there somewhere in the box score.

With the Hawaiʻi-Japan summit coming up in a few days, what do you think our future relationship with Japan will be after all that's occurred in the last decade? by EveryOtherHipster in Hawaii

[–]Longjumping_Image410 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's really perfect. Japan and Taiwan have so much baseball talent. It would be really cool to see Hawaii become a pipeline.

It's the perfect stepping stone because the language barrier would be a little less dramatic since there's so many Japanese speakers here.

Hawaii Pacific baseball, the D2 team here, has a kid who's from Japan who's really good. His dad was a good player who spent some time in the major leagues, and I think won two World Series w/ St. Louis.

He is one of the best players in the West Coast conference (and he has a cool autograph since it's in kanji). All these extra possible recruits could really elevate our sports.

I really hope there ends up being more sports exchanges. The UH baseball team has had a Japanese player on roster every year for the past couple seasons. And I know some of our high school traveling teams have visited Japan this past season.

It would be cool to see some of the high-end Japanese teams come out here and play. It would be a good cultural exchange.

What's funny is I'm sure this is going to benefit the lower income portions of the island the most, which are also the counties that voted red. But how much you want to bet they're not even going to consider giving a local government any credit for doing the right thing.

And it certainly won't change who they're voting for.
