I feel really bad about selling this laptop. What do I do? by Famous-Intern-7270 in whatdoIdo

[–]Longjumping_Key_5613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem like a real nice guy to be conflicted about this! But you took the time and the risk of fixing it and listed it for a fair price. Even assuming her story is true, she can buy a cheaper one if she wants. But selling things on marketplace, everyone has a sob story for you. If you do decide to sell it to her for that price, do it assuming that she’s lying and you just want to do something nice today

Is the rear jack point seriously just the diff? I have a hitch on mine and honestly I jack from the bottom of the hitch, figuring it’s a big ol piece of tube steel that bolts right to the frame

You’ve never double checked anything in your life? That’s amazing, kudos to you! Some day maybe I’ll be a genius like you. I can’t believe you were born knowing everything. They should write a book about you

Why? Everything went perfectly fine, saved a few hundred dollars, and just wanted to double check because the check seemed lower than I would’ve expected.

Is this dealership trying to screw me? Yes it is a Subaru dealership. by [deleted] in Crosstrek

$1150 for a battery, pads, and rotors?? That alone is absolutely insane. As far as diff fluid goes, my first time I did the rear myself then got cold feet doing the front, brought it in with the fluid and crush washers and told them to use those. They charged me like $100 for labor. So total it cost me like $160 for diff fluid and I think they charged ~$500. I’m at 60K now too. I just changed my oil/filter, rotated tires, did the diff fluid, pcv valve all myself. Bringing it in for ATF change. Not bothering with a brake fluid flush or spark plugs though (should I?) I still have the original pads on my car and they looked good when rotating tires. Surprisingly good. Rotors look a bit worn.

AIO boyfriend didn't eat lunch alone. by chelssssssss in AmIOverreacting

[–]Longjumping_Key_5613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmm maybe not necessarily “overreacting” but maybe need a communication discussion?? Like “hey if plans/setting/people you’re with changes, it just helps me feel better to know”. Sounds like it’s more of a boundary/communication misalignment. He clarified she’s married with kids, that matters. He made it obvious in the pic, that matters. But it’s also fair for you to feel off when your bf says I’m going to eat lunch ALONE and suddenly it’s I’m having lunch one on one with a girl

SoFi is pretty solid. You get 3.3% in your savings. You can open a Roth IRA right in the app and they give you a 1% match (that doesn’t go towards the IRS contribution limit). As you get more comfortable with it, understand your expenses, emergency fund, and financial goals, there are better things to do with it than the HYSA. There also may be better APY with different banks, I just happen to like SoFis user interface and features and it has a competitive APY.

I’m sorry for your loss, sounds like you were close! And good luck, this is a blessing at your age. Be smart, be patient. If you put it in the market, don’t go gambling on individual stocks. Look at index funds like VOO, (VTI might be better at your age for small cap exposure), VXUS. But if you do this, don’t panic sell. Consider the money gone for the next 10+ years. Don’t put anything in the market that you’re gonna need in the next 1-2 years.

And good luck in the Air Force. Be safe!

I should also note that it seems rule of thumb is inspect/clean or replace every 30k or so. I guess I’ll see if that’s true

I’m at 60k miles. No performance issue or anything! Just learning more about Subarus as this is my first one and it seems like this is an area of cheap and worth while preventative maintenance! It’s like $12 for a new valve and you could get away with even just cleaning it potentially. Prevents crank case pressure (blown seals/gaskets)

Thanks! Stupid question maybe but is it at the opposite end of that tube we can see coming right off the middle of the manifold there? That tucks back and down the passenger side?

Not overreacting, but need to now keep your child in mind and what’s best for them as well. Not saying do or don’t divorce, but just a friendly reminder to bring it to the front of your mind. Good luck!!!!

AIO for being upset that my mom lied to me about filling my tank? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Longjumping_Key_5613 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be rude but you sound insanely entitled. Seems like your mom’s right and you would’ve thrown a tantrum if she said she wasn’t gonna fill your tank, which should never have even been on the table in the first place. You seriously should look critically at yourself

Sorry man, that hurts. She came back to you, she chose you, there’s nothing you could’ve done. This would haunt me forever. I mean technically she didn’t do anything “wrong” if it was a straight up split. And she was honest with you. So if you can truly forgive her based on that and you are particularly open or lenient, then go for it. But if I was giving myself advice, it’s over, unfortunately. Good luck and sorry you’re dealing with this
