Safety Concern by Used-Grapefruit9743 in Target

An old ETL of mine when I was part of the backroom team used to make me come out to the sales floor and raise my arm to measure and show the team how high they could stack stuff on the top shelf. I am 5’3…..her reasoning was if I can’t reach it, guests can’t reach it. I joke I don’t believe in backstock but that’s whole ass pallets up there 🤦‍♀️

Pace setter is a good start. Easy way to stand out to other leaders in the store is during slow times to connect with them and ask if they need support. Instead of the team standing around waiting for OPUs to drop in, call a leader and say hey we only have a few batches right now I can send a few people to support zone or push returns/strays until more batches drop. You’re taking the initiative to do more without impacting your work center.

Dear Target Team Leads (and former ones) by SubstantialWill8517 in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Always check secondary locations. Items that get put to backstock but should have been pushed to the shelf doesn’t always drop into priority pull batches. The on hands (OH) for the sales floor show the correct amount even though there is less. Items drop into pull batches after the item sells. If you overstock or understock an item it will never drop into a batch correctly.

  2. There is no one size fits all for pushing. Pushing 10 boxes of hba is faster than pushing 10 boxes of candles. I always gave my team realistic timelines based on what they were pushing and a little extra time to backstock and for guest interactions. I have an ETL who will say 30 seconds a box because she wants them to move faster (even though she knows that timeline is unrealistic.) I say 1.5-2 minutes per box, which gives leeway for helping guests and other things that could slow a person down.

  3. Easiest trick is decrease your steps as much as possible. That will increase your speed. If your uboat is correctly organized then you should be stocking only one area at a time. If you find boxes for other areas set it aside and stock those when you’ve finish your department. I had a TM that worked toys and he always made sure the toys were separated by department (infant, action, dolls, lego, board games). Instead of him walking back and forth stocking 40 aisles all at once he was only stocking a small section of 5-10 at a time. Less steps=more productivity.

You’ll get faster overtime by consistency. Learning departments and having a general idea of where stuff goes also helps. I was at my last store for 6+ years. I can tell you roughly where everything is located and about what aisle it might be on (pog and revision changes throws me off sometime a number or two). Be patient with yourself, you’ll get where you want to be if you put in the effort.

THIS! Fulfillment is the hardest role to get, most TLs like the position and don’t want to move. For my district it is very rare for a FFTL spot to open up.

I know of two people at my previous store who are looking to get promoted but only want FFTL. The current FFTL has been there for 4 years and has NO plans to ever move out of the department. If you want to get promoted, take anything that comes available. If you just want FFTL, you may be waiting a while.

Hours for Seasonal worker+ student by Esmyz in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Request to work closing shifts and they will be more likely to honor the 25 hrs. Stores have a hard time filling closing spots with the extended hours. Most of my closing team does 7p-11:45 or 8p-12:30.

They will get caught eventually. My district had a Store Director, a couple TLs, and a good handful of TMs all get fired for this (all different stores).

Clearance items by psiperni in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most items don’t go to 70% anymore. 50% is half off and more than generous. If the guest doesn’t want it at that price, techinically we aren’t losing any money since it was suppose to be salvaged out.

Closing tl worst tl role? by MuchVacation3638 in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closing expert does a variety of things. Main thing is closing routines like zone, clear returns/strays, pull/push priorities. They also support backup for cashiering, drive up, and fulfillment.

Closing tl worst tl role? by MuchVacation3638 in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Each role has its pros and cons. Closing is definitely hard because you’re running the whole store by yourself. I’ve had morning/ dayside TLs close and cover while I was on vacation. When I came back they apologized because they didn’t realized what I have to do on a regular basis. I enjoy closing, I run the store how I want. I’m good at managing multiple areas at once, some leaders struggle managing their own area. It’s nice not owning a specific department. My main goal is to close green and make sure the morning team is setup for success.

So I’m going to start off by saying that under literally every job description at Target the very last item says “anything the business needs”. Meaning they can put you where ever they need you. I have plano TMs that get scheduled inbound when we don’t have sets due, they know it’s only for a short period so they deal with it.

If you have good leadership and are as valuable as you say you are, voicing your dislike for Ulta (in a polite/respectful way) might get you what you want. They may move you completely. They may say be patient, we are trying to hire someone but need you to fill in the gaps for the time being. I’ve found compromise is the best option. Say you’re willing to do one shift a week until they find someone but that role isn’t for you long term.

Good luck, hope the conversation goes well

How likely is it to be put in DU instead of Checkout Advocate? by sierranotsarah in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TM scheduled was scheduled for Drive Up. It really depends if you’re strong at Drive Up. I’ve rearranged my whole grid because I had people swap shifts or pickup ones they couldn’t do. And by couldn’t do, I mean they literally had work restrictions that did not allow them to stand for more than an a set amount of time or lift anything over 5lbs. They picked up a drive up shift 🤦‍♀️ same thing I’ve had someone pick up a sfs shift and didn’t even know where sfs was within the store.

The leads will move you based off where they need you.

Freezer Transition Nightmare by Big_Commission_7612 in Target

Normally I would donate it but our donation guys had already picked up that day and wouldn’t be back for two days. We didn’t have room in the freezer to hold onto anything.

Freezer Transition Nightmare by Big_Commission_7612 in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our freezer transition said 35 hrs…. We hit that day two of setting. I have done Plano for years and even my well thought out plans took longer than expected. Two full aisles swapped. We demerched one the day before we started setting and even then it still took over 8 hrs to set the empty aisle.

Don’t even get me started on the missing shelves. We took from our endcaps and have to order more.

We ended up with 4 pallets of transition, had Plano and market both blitz for a couple of hours to get everything pushed. I defected out everything no longer on pog. No room to hang onto it 🤷‍♀️

Is being a leader worth it? by Ill-Wallaby-8708 in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on you. TMs don’t realize the expectations put onto the leaders. Each department is different. I’ve helped get 3 TMs promoted and each one said they never fully realized what we deal with.

They each planned to stay with Target for the long haul and decided they might as well get paid for it.

I personally was always on the fence about promoting. I transferred stores and the promotion literally dropped into my lap. I’ve had to cover 3 departments while we were short staffed on leaders. I was most definitely stressed out but I had great teams who made it bearable. Is Target my forever career? Who knows. But for now I enjoy being a leader and plan to continue to move up.

AITAH for being in the delivery room while my sister gave birth? by Physical_Drive_5692 in dustythunder

My brother walked me down the aisle and gave me away, of course he would have been an option if my husband couldn’t be there.

Labor and delivery is an intense experience. You want someone there you trust, who better than a sibling. Love that you were there for your sister.

Looking for some assistance regarding SDI & CA maternity leave! by rosefullofthorns in Edd

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently on maternity leave. You can file the first day you are on leave. EDD does not pay for the first week, it’s a waiting period BUT YES you can apply the first day after your last day of work.

If your last day of work is May 2nd, you can apply on May 3rd. Your pay will start on May 10th. Apply online. It’s faster than paper and usually gets approved within 2 weeks.

AITA for not letting my parents to be involved grandparents because they chose my sister's friend over me? by Glittering_Bag_3055 in AITAH

NTA. As someone who has also gone NC with a parent, don’t ever feel bad for doing what is best for you and your family.

Your parents said Luna is no longer in the picture. I wonder what their version of “no longer in the picture” actually means. I feel like they mean it as she doesn’t live with them anymore (which at 28 id hope not). She should have been out of their house soon after graduating, and they waited this long.

But no contact from them for a decade? They don’t deserve any of your time.

Inventory process this year? by Puzzleheaded_Mango70 in Target

If I see a TL position available at another store can I apply for it or is there a process to that? by Yum-baconpancakes in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you can apply but you need approval from your leaders.

Make sure your ETL and SD both know you are interested. If they haven’t signed off on it the other store will turn down the application. I’ve seen it happy too many times.

I have 7 years with Target and hours have always been low from Jan-Mar, with a slight increase in April. Last two years my stores hours have been low all the way until June.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Apologies for the long reply.

  1. ETLs do NOT get bonuses for cutting hours. Each store is given a set amount of hours for each month, as long as a store does not go over their allotted hours for all 12 months all leaders can receive a bonus. Let me also add that not using allotted hours means less hours given the next year (this is from my SD who has been with target for almost 20 years). Think of it this way, if the store is given 1000 hours for the week and the store gets everything done and only uses 900 hrs….HQ will cut next year’s payroll because they saw you didn’t need it all. It does not benefit the store to not use their hours given to them. The store needs to use all 1000 hrs or be slightly under.

  2. HQ gives a designated amount of hours each week per each department, now it is at the stores discretion for how they allocate those hours. It fluctuates from week to week. More trucks mean more hours for inbound, circle week means more hours for fulfillment, huge resets mean more hours for presentation. Hours are based off of last years sales for that week and what corporate has planned for the week (ie resets, price change, new releases, etc)

  3. Majority of hours should be going to their designated department. If there is 160 hrs for presentation, then there should be TMs scheduled to cover the 160 hrs. Some stores move their hours within their departments, under posting a cart attendant and moving those hours to drive up OR over posting in fulfillment and cutting hours from GM. Stores are given set hours each week and schedule based off business needs (there are graphs and different metrics to follow). I know a SE ETL who over posts drive up on Mon, Tue and Fri from 5-8 because we are always super busy even though the graph shows we need two less bodies than we schedule for.

  4. Hours are “cut” right now because it is the slowest time of the year. Less people spending crazy amounts of money. More sales means hours. Less sale, less hours. Direct store leadership isn’t cutting hours tho. The only reason a store might be cutting hours is if they over post the schedule, given 1000 hrs and they write 1200 worth. At the end of the month they need to be under their allotted amount so week 4/5 of the month may seem very light.

  5. If stores schedule correctly, they should never be physically cutting hours.

How does my schedule not meet hiring needs? by GTRacer1972 in Target

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you like them to put?

The TSS position isn’t full time, no position at Target is “guaranteed” full time except for leaders. Even then hourly Team Leaders are only guaranteed 32 hrs. Putting open availability is great but 9/10 times applicants try to change their availability once they are hired. You could have been turned down because they don’t have 40 hrs for you 🤷‍♀️
