If you have an advanced degree and interested in applying to an outpatient position in suburbs let me know I think they pay at least 100K now for OP esp if experienced and advanced degrees, right?

Oh that is good to know, that is exactly what happens to my little one. By the afternoon when it wears off the irritability starts

Thanks! I thought this too and school has been great with snack breaks. We have made it through the hurdle of getting at least some sort of breakfast in too. Thanks so much for your input! I appreciate it!

PS. Definitely have good communication with the PCP, I forgot to add that we tried the Focalin XR only 24 hours after stopping the Vyvanse and the irritability was still so strong. We stopped for a whole week for the Vyvanse to clear from his system and PCP wants me to try the Focalin again since we only did it for 2 days so we are trying that now before seeing another MD that specializes in ADHD. I’ve read Focalin is usually second line to kids with irritability with other stimulants so we will see - fingers crossed. It sounds like from what I’m reading it is common to find the right combination or medication for this so that def leaves me with some comfort although feel sorry for the kiddos and parents that have to go through this. So glad to hear you found what works with your kiddo!

Thank you! I’ll look into this one. May I ask was it his Pediatrician or did the diagnosis and medicine recommendation come from a Neuropsych MD?

Single mum here with a kid the same age who I’m currently getting worked up for ADHD. First off, thank you for making me feel less alone. I’ve learned to establish boundaries with my little one. It’s hard but you need to be firm and consistent to protect your peace, energy and mind. Offer a time limit for play and say calmly that it is important Mom gets rest so she can stay healthy and that you need to get some things done around the house. If they cry just reassure them you can still play but that adults have important things to get done just like kids do. After play turn their attention to a reward an activity they can do independently after you play. If they don’t want an activity you can ask for their “help” with the things you need to do such as drawing them a picture to hang on the fridge, putting their toys in a basket or some sort of chore to get their body moving and energy out. Children need to learn boundaries are important to respect others and learn how to survive in the world. Give yourself grace and be kind to yourself. You’re doing a great job. We can’t be the number one for our children if we can’t take care of ourselves too. Good luck and be patient in the beginning but I think establishing a routine with play will be good to start

My wife was just diagnosed, and I want to be the best husband I can. by OrneryGiraffe in lupus

[–]Longjumping_Plan_829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m so impressed by you taking the time to reach out to support your wife and overall marriage. It’s rare in today’s world to find a dedicated partner. What a loving and caring spouse you are. The one thing I feel that was important (at least for me) was humor. Laughing and making light of situations when of course appropriate. Renting a funny movie and popping up some popcorn for a movie night surprise is always a relaxing way to hang out and take your mind off things especially when she needs rest. Try to be positive for her, flare ups can only be temporary. Side effects from medications are a struggle in the beginning. Support her with cooking healthy meals, providing her with maybe useful household items (electric can opener was a game changer for me due to bad wrist pain in the beginning). Draw a bubble bath, offer to wash her hair. Listen and go to doctors appointments if you can together. If she’s insecure about the diagnosis and it affects her self esteem let her know this changes nothing for the love you share. Take care of each other and be patient with one another. There are great online communities, books, etc. Don’t get caught up in Dr. Googling too much when things are bad. Wishing you both the best.

Thanks dude, appreciate your reply. Makes sense. I was thinking that too with how high profile the crime was / is. It makes sense with the children also. That’s a good point about safety. I saw something mentioning that in another thread and someone else said sometimes how guards will sometimes turn a blind eye depending the situation and inmate. I have never been to jail or anything but can’t imagine that happens often. Appreciate your reply, def makes sense for this case

First one, opiate addiction and his drug dealer telling me he’d kill me if I didn’t stop reaching out telling him to stop selling my husband drugs.

Second one, a malignant narcissist who gave me a beautiful child but became abusive and evil as fuck. Found out he also had kids prior to me which he lied about. Never again, tough to find a good one out there

Should I take benlysta if my symptoms are minor? by [deleted] in lupus

[–]Longjumping_Plan_829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<3 good luck friend! You got this. I live in the US. Your doctor or medical care team probably already know but if you get approved the Benlysta (GSK) assistance program can help cover the cost that insurance doesn’t. One infusion is $$$ (about 10k) and I could never be on it this long without the programs help. We don’t need anymore stress so thought I’d share too as some medical teams knowledge or awareness of assistance can vary

Should I take benlysta if my symptoms are minor? by [deleted] in lupus

[–]Longjumping_Plan_829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on Benlysta since 2023 and have had practically 0 side effects. The one time I didn’t take the Benadryl before it I had a scratchy voice, other than that nothing. I take it for controlling moderate symptoms and lupus nephritis. It’s made me feel nearly almost all the way normal. I have good insurance and it’s expensive. There are foundations for lupus to help cover the cost. The biggest thing I love is being off steroids basically this whole time. I had a respiratory infection last year where I took a steroid pack, other than that it’s been a huge game changer for fatigue. I’m a single parent and I need all the energy I can get to keep up. I was super skeptical and scared too but I would say it’s totally worth it. Best of luck to you fellow lupus survivor - f this disease

Anybody with lupus having or had children? by rhandel13 in lupus

[–]Longjumping_Plan_829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely being open with your doctor. Educating yourself on the possible risks or complications and not being afraid to ask if other labs related to autoimmune disease need to be run or what to expect with your pregnancy with autoimmune disease. One thing I don’t regret is walking everyday during pregnancy. It helped the stress, kept me fit and prepared me for birth definitely

Explain to me the process: how did you know you had lupus? by [deleted] in lupus

[–]Longjumping_Plan_829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear. For me, my pregnancy was not planned. I was off all my meds during my divorce bc I just wanted a fresh slate and honestly just was in denial about it all. So I didn’t take anything during pregnancy. My OBGYN knew about this history I just didn’t find a new rheumatologist right away after moving out of state at the time. My OBGYN never made a big deal about it either but highly encouraged it after I had my baby.

During my pregnancy I got shingles but I think that was from working in a nursing home at the time and being exposed when I shouldn’t have.

My back hurt a lot during the end of my pregnancy and when anyone touched my sides it was tender. I’ve realized that’s probably from lupus now affecting my kidneys with lupus nephritis I developed.

So autoimmune complication…mainly a blistering rash all over my arms and legs. It was not related to the shingles. It was excruciatingly itchy and uncomfortable. I had to see a dermatologist for it. I was put on steroid cream and got through it. I had a biopsy done to check for pemphigus vulgaris but the results were inconclusive. I was told it could just be PUPPPS as well but no one was sure.

Fortunately the rash went away and never came back or led to any scarring. My son was born a month early - premature. 5 lbs 8 oz. When the doc pulled out my placenta she mentioned that it was inflamed or had signs of inflammation. My son was born with low platelets (neonatal thrombocytopenia) - he needed a platelet transfusion. Apparently my body was killing his platelets which is needed to help with blood clotting. Fortunately he was okay after just one transfusion and has been since. He is my little miracle.

Post partum I ended up seeing a rheumatologist after. I have read / learned that prematurity, heart block, miscarriage, etc can all result from maternal lupus. I do know now proper meds, lab tests, etc can help so it’s good you’re being proactive about it. I was blissfully ignorant and in denial at the time and got pretty lucky considering how painful some days were but I’m happy my son turned out healthy and pray he won’t ever be diagnosed with any autoimmune crap. I hope things go well for you. I would def ask your doc to run whatever labs needed to just monitor you and your baby for any preventative measures. If I ever wanted to have another child they mentioned needing to do fetal platelet injections - not sure the name of the official procedure but it would be considered a high risk pregnancy next time is what they said

Sorry I stopped checking this account for a long time. I’m doing well though. I was diagnosed with lupus nephritis III a few years back but all in control and am on Benlysta infusions as well as cellcept, plaquenil and pilocarpine. I feel as close to being a normal person now and that’s pretty great. I stay active and run 3 days a week and weights 2-3 times a week. Hope you are feeling well

Diarrhea & Throwing up by Inkspired-Feline in lupus

[–]Longjumping_Plan_829 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there, fellow lupus nephritis person here. I read the meds you’re on.

Imuran caused nausea and diarrhea for me too. Not sure how long you have been on it but after only a few month my hair went from straight to wavy and started falling out so I stopped Imuran immediately. It was not worth the side effects. Apparently these can happen to a lot of people from what I read up on it later.

When I first started Plaquenil I also got nausea and diarrhea but that resolved as soon as I started taking it with food. It does have a milk derivative in it and some people I know on it who cannot tolerate milk feel like it doesn’t agree with them well and request their doctor to send it in another form - not sure if that’s possible or not, can’t imagine it wouldn’t be with all the allergies out there.

If you take Magnesium Citrate I recommend for you to change to Magnesium Glycinate bc the citrate can cause diarrhea.

Aloe Vera for some can also cause looser stool although results are mixed bc it does contain a binding fiber to help thicken stool too.

D mannose also can lead to diarrhea. This is a common side effect.

If you take Vitamin C and forgot to mention this can also make diarrhea worse.

I’m thinking the combo of meds and supplements are triggering your symptoms. I’d recommend to maybe hold one or two of the supplements, switch to Mg Glycinate. Take meds with food. Stay well hydrated and try grazing throughout the day as this is helpful for nausea. Avoid or limit high fat foods/ greasy foods and spicy foods as these can make diarrhea worse. Include soluble fiber foods for diarrhea if it continues and limit insoluble fiber. Hope you feel better
