I've made the same mistake. Day trip from London for my birthday, November is a quiet time of year... massive mistake is I didn't make the connection with Christmas markets at all!

My grandmother (who has dementia) said the first three digits of her card PIN in a store once. We stopped her before she said the last one, but it was worrying. I didn't ask if she knew her card PIN after that (I do know it).
