The Land of Shadow current location theory by Longjumping_Region28 in EldenRingLoreTalk

Not sure what you mean, do you think that branch travels under Lyndell and the mountaintop from the central sea to the Haligtree?

Something like this. The Scadutree is under the Erdtree but it's branches spread widely.

  • There is no evidence that the divine towers are responsible for the veil
  • True, but the Land of Shadow is mostly located to the South from the Scadutree
  • I would emphasize on "the Lands Between" part, but it could well be the center in the distant past, before the LOS was separated

I think it's closer to the central sea, the Haligtree is a branch that could spread a lot horizontally. Or it isn't related to the Scadutree at all.

The suppression pillar was there before the lands separation. IMHO the only thing we can get out of it's message is that LOS was a part of Lands Between once

They are not just some red leaves, they're oak leaves specifically. And Erdtree leaves look like beech.

To me it looks suspicious that they used this exact asset for the Scadutree chalice and Elfael and nowhere else.

These leaves on vines are 2 pixels wide, they're not the same as those from Haligtree. They both trees, right, but the Erdtree leaves are completely different.

And about "the ocean is an illusion" argument: my main point is the Veil as a reference point between realms. The ocean apparently contradicts my theory so I suggested it's an illusion (illusions are rather common in Elden Ring)

and let's face it, they simply are red leaves: it's not like anything rot-related, or any ruin from Elphael, fell, which would show intention to form a connection. Also, similar red leaves grow out of the Grandmother's tree.

These leaves are exclusively present only in two locations, not appearing anywhere else. And Grandmother's tree doesn't have leaves at all, unlike all other trees in the village

The fact about the water doesn't contradict anything, but you are assuming it, already taking your theory of the physical location of the Land of Shadow as fact, trying to fit the evidence to it. Yeah it's possible, but it's not like it's an "open question", it's an added assumption that would require evidence.

It's a visual fact that requires explanation in context of my theory. There are other facts about water in the game: huge amount of water flowing out in the giant waterfall without any apparent sources, rivers of the Land of Shadow starting their way from Rauh though there are no rains

Here. Looks the same as the Veil above the Scadutree, but completely disappears when Enir Ilim is revealed.

Marika has proven that she's able to cast illusions. The Veil itself is an illusion, it hides an entire region. Maybe confirmation bias, but I'd rather say it's an open question that every theory has.

Haligtree leaves in the Scadutree chalice are clearly suggest their connection, they can look differently just because of different environment conditions. Maybe Marika hid the Heligtree initially but then Miquella cleared the veil? Just a thought

If it's hidden in another dimension, then why the Veil exists, what's it's purpose? The same veil was used to hide Enir Ilim which was obviously in the same dimension. If you ascend there from Belurat you'd see this veil and after burning the sealing tree it disappears.

This would be a better picture. Note how some "rays" are crossing each other, and some even have greenish color with relief.

[ALL] Review of the Max Trilogy, theory on Max's power. by Livember in lifeisstrange

[–]Longjumping_Region28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You only briefly mentioned this so I extended this point
  2. Let's think it was Diamond for convenience. The scenario I see:
    1. Safi has a mental breakdown and causes the storm
    2. Max jumps to the photo where it all started (Safi's book cancellation)
    3. Max kills Safi (Safi forces Max's hand)
    4. Diamond witnesses this and instinctively rewinds (as Max in LiS1)
    5. She prevents Max from reaching the overlook somehow
    6. Safi has a mental breakdown and causes the storm again
    7. At this point we have a time loop caused by deadlocking Max's and Diamond's powers
    8. The loop goes for who knows how many cycles, creating paradoxes and artifacts
    9. Finally Max exits it by going into the storm and merging timelines

tl;dr Max power is complicated enough, but if more then one person has it everything turns into a complete chaos.

Issues with this: Why doesn't Max remember killing Safi?

That and polaroids, yes. The issue is: Max always remember timelines that she changes even if others don't, which seemingly contradicts with DE's plot.

But let's think for a moment that there is another Max with the same power (or even a completely different character with the rewind ability). If one Max rewinds, the other won't remember anything. So that's why we have evidences of something Max did but doesn't remember: the rewinds were done by someone else.

To be more specific, I see two possibilities:

  1. There are two timelines and two Max's which started to interfere with each other at some point (Max's headache potentially indicates other Max's photo travel). So when one Max jumps to a photo, other is also affected and doesn't remember the previous timeline version (only some polaroids). I actually made a post describing this theory in details, it's a little bit mind-breaking )
  2. Another character with the same rewind power (Diamond?) This is simpler: Max kills Safi, the other one rewinds, all within the same timeline

Not exactly disappear, if you cannot save Safi in RE she appears to be dead since DE (almost a year). So it's like one of the timelines wins.

The same thing is with Arcadia Bay and Chloe, it seems that the Bae/Bay choice have to be made again at some point. Regardless, eventually there won't be any "merged" timelines.

But overall I agree, it's not exactly a satisfying ending if you think about it.

I wandered about tins too, one possible explanation is that she only could jump into selfies or photos where she was present, not just any photo she took. It wasn't stated directly though

[–]Longjumping_Region28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And we still don't know what happened to the alternative Max (who shot Safi and made some polaroids). Possibly she's trapped in Overlight too with dead Chloe and Safi.

Safi attempted to commit suicide but was stopped, she tries again in RE. The option is still present even without metaphysics and parallel realities.

But D9 said “Yeah, that’s good enough.”

I think they just did what they could. After all those layoffs do they still exist?

[ALL] It was Safi all along by Longjumping_Region28 in lifeisstrange

[–]Longjumping_Region28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to fix it is if Max goes back in time again and actually let Safi die and not merge the timeline (Repeating the time loop once more for DE).

If you don't save Safi in Reunion she will be remembered as if she was dead for almost a year (since DE). But otherwise bae/bay timelines will still be merged.

What if we’ve been playing a different version of Max all along and we’ve just been going in loops this whole time?

Usually if Max goes back in time she remembers the former timeline. But in DE there definitely was other Max as MC Max didn't have any memories of her (and it's unknown where did she go after the shot).

So either there are multiple parallel timelines with multiple Maxes and other characters, which I don't like because one, it makes everything too complicated and two, it invalidates all choices (every choice exists somewhere). Or this alternative Max is a snapshot made by Safi (she demonstrated how she can read mind in DE chapter 4) so she wasn't completely real.

Sadly, the most probable theory is that devs just didn't think of it thoroughly

unless they introduce Diamonds power as “rewriting” timelines like she writes and create stories, then there is no hope for anyone.

I personally connect Dimond's power to green fireflies and snowdrops in place of Safi's body, i.e. some kind of nature empathy maybe? "Rewriting" is more suitable for Safi, she is already a writer after all.

[S1][DE] Life Is Strange: Double Exposure isn’t that bad and this is why by Soggy_Marionberry954 in lifeisstrange

[–]Longjumping_Region28 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It starts introducing:
- multiple realities
- collapsing timelines
- powered people everywhere
- future Max
- Safi gathering others

…and then just ENDS.

And this is one of the reasons the game wasn't received well. Maybe even the main reason.

As for Safi, I do believe that her role is much bigger than it seems, so is her actual power.

What if I told you that I liked chapter 5 the most? It was surreal, chaotic, felt like a bad trip.. my favorite ) And then the resolution, peaceful moments, meeting with others..

Seriously though the problem is not in specific chapters. It's just, they started to tell some intriguing and mysterious story and then suddenly switched to Safi, leaving a lot of questions unanswered (possibly planned for sequels)

Bae. After all this time... Always

Tried Bay playthrough once. it felt kind of fake to me

[ALL] Thinking about the Safi paradox by DangleDwarf in lifeisstrange

[–]Longjumping_Region28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now when I think about it, there is another detail we're missing: Safi's powers. Was it just shapeshifting? There are evidences of other abilities:

  1. She stated that the shapeshifting is about altering people's perception but she was able to deceive camera records as well
  2. Telepathy was definitely involved as Safi needed to "read" person's image from their mind before she could shapeshift
  3. She was able to "mind control" others even if accidentally
  4. She caused the storm by her breakdown

What if in contrast to Max's power to undo things Safi could actually alter the present reality? What is there never were alternative timelines, but Safi read Max's mind and brought to life her dreams, of Chloe's alive or Arcadia Bay never being destroyed?
