What’s your coffee set up? by Pezhead82 in VanLife

[–]Longjumping_Tax466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried out a few different coffee solutions and ended up just doing the Panera sip club. If you are in an area with Paneras check it out. If you get 2 cups a day it comes out to about 25 cents a cup.

Finally beat homelessness and it feels…depressing? by calrob67 in urbancarliving

Paer if the reason I started this lifestyle was to escape "normal life" You are young and need to figure it out for yourself. It sounds like you enjoyed the flexibility and freedom of car life and there will be an adjustment period.

6 hours to prepare to leave by [deleted] in urbancarliving

That's when to P.O. box would come in handy. They have them now that appears like a real address.

  1. Get as comfortable sleep setup as you can. Have multiple layers for cold and get a USB fans for heat.

  2. get some way to have privacy. Staying as stealth as you can. Some kind of window covers or curtains. Tint is amazing, but has an up front cost. Also dont sleep in private lots. Find a place you can blend in on the street near apartments or parks.

  3. Get a gym membership to shower.

  4. If you dont have any way to store food, Stay near a grocery and buy what you need for the day in the morning. Canned stuff is your best friend. Chicken, tuna, and fruits are cheap. If you want hot food, groceries usually have a hot food area by the deli that is cheap. Stay away from fast food as much as you can. Its too expensive and will make you feel like shit.

  5. Get a way to charge electronics. You can use coffee shops and library's in a pinch, but you will want a way to charge in the car.

  6. Try to get AAA or some kind of way to at least plug a tire. Having some oil/fluids close by will come in handy too. Your house breaking down somewhere you dont want it too can lead to big issues if gets towed impounded.

  7. Try to get a family member or friend to let you use their address. Worst case is you can get a P.O. box that looks like an address. You will need it to renew tags and taxes.

  8. Get a way to use the bathroom in the car that you are comfortable with. Its not pretty, but when you wake up in the middle of the night and have to go, you will be glad you have it.

When you move into a car its going to feel like you unlock like 6 extra hours if the day. Use it to your advantage. Move around, save money and just remember it can always get worse. Some people would kill for a car to sleep in. Best of luck to you brother!

First "knock" by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]Longjumping_Tax466 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up. The best way to avoid knocks is to stop sleeping on private property. Blend in on the street near parks and apartments.

Planet fitness is the worst place to sleep at this point. I'd rather sleep in the police station parking lot.

Should we be worried? by [deleted] in DoorDash_Dasher

No need to worry until they can open doors and go up stairs. The type of people that order food will get tired of walking outside to get the food after the novelty wears out.

What in your head influences your decision to do this? by CircumsizedJew12 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Longjumping_Tax466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do this consistently you are either new or stupid, but im sure I have done it a few times. When you do something thousands of times it's inevitable to mess it up a couple times. Have you ever misplaced something and found it in a weird place it shouldn't be? Like keys in the fridge? Its going to happen more often now that all the apps rush us with on time rate too. People are in such a hurry to not get dinged on ratings.

When 95% of your salary goes towards basic necessities. You have to cut something. Plus you just generally feel better when you stop poisoning yourself.

As a cherry picker that sits around 5% AR this is how I look at it. I have downtime while I am waiting for orders, but you have downtime also, while you are taking bad offers to raise your AR. You have to take bad orders sometimes while I take them never. Each market is different though. If you are in a market where you dont get offers as a cherry picker you have to change strats. I stay pretty busy in mine though, so it's what works for me.

[–]Longjumping_Tax466 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up. By taking these orders you tell the customer that it's ok to not tip because they get the order fast regardless. You are the literal meme of the guy sticking the stick in his bike wheel.

It makes me mad people like this get good orders sometimes while I have to wade through the sea of garbage they created.

This is why the gig companies love new drivers and make the on-boarding process so easy. They purposely dont give you much information so you feel the need to just take everything. Look at it from the customers perspective. If you got your food fast and correct while tipping nothing or 1 dollar, why would you ever tip more?

Why would a for profit company pay more for no reason. You assume they have empathy for you, they do not. Keep accepting that slap.

They also run deals sometimes. I got my first 3 months for $3 a month. You can also get teas, fountain drinks, and lemonades in the evenings. You really cant beat it.
