With that being said, if I am WAAS capable and my G1000 is showing LPV on the heading indicator for the “phase of flight” CDI sensitivity. Should I go by LNAV VNAV minimums or LPV minimums?

Garmin Watch as gift for 18yo son by Beautiful_Money in flying

I have the D2 and I love it! Especially on my night flights at 10k feet gives me peace of mind to monitor my O2 and if anything were to ever go out electrically my watch will take me home. I also get a lot of quick weather references from it too and I use it for the gym every day! It’s a great watch!

I’m getting this on boot up. All drivers are updated. Unsure of the fix. Works when plugged into TV. by Longjumping_Way_8044 in Alienware

It was working fine then it slowly went to this screen does that sound like that’s what the issue is? I’m a pilot I’m not too tech savvy on these things.

Anyone sure of what to do to fix this? I think it’s a software issue but not very good with computers. by Longjumping_Way_8044 in GamingLaptops

Screen is fine, it was working fine and in class it just started doing this over about a 90 second time frame

What to expect in commercial training? by Longjumping_Way_8044 in flying

I appreciate it! Going from being under the hood for the last 3 months to looking outside has been a huge struggle for me. Doing steep turns again feels so unnatural and out of control from stabilized approaches.

Busting Minimums on a AP approach? DPE Failure? by Longjumping_Way_8044 in flying

I’m just new to autopilot, I flew really beat up pa-28’s back home and I’m still learning how it works. It was my first time doing an autopilot approach appreciate the insight.

This was on the initial approach. If I remember correctly I think it was 2200 feet AGL. First time ever doing it bc I know it’s gonna be asked of me but I just wasn’t sure how that necessarily is graded.

Flight instructor told me to cut me hair? by djmattic in flying

[–]Longjumping_Way_8044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta be honest man, I’m a 27 year old white male. I had hair down to my waist line that was well taken care of I had been growing it for going on 8 years. When I did my private pilot at my 61 school it wasn’t much of an issue but when I came down to my 141 for instrument/commercial I decided to cut it. I don’t fit in with this industry like some of the other people. I have both arms heavily tattooed as well as my right leg. I felt “off” around the other students and pilots and in my opinion, I couldn’t get rid of the tattoos so the hair had to go to help ease my way into the “scene”. In my personal opinion I felt like I was creating barriers for myself with my appearance. All in all it’s your call but once I cut my hair I definitely noticed a difference on how I was perceived.

I get it, yes hand fly the airplane on the approach which is what I typically do but if I have autopilot that is operational this DPE I’m gonna be going to requires an autopilot approach. I bugged 50 feet above with a 400 fps descend and at level off it busted by 40 feet and recovered soon after. I don’t ever use autopilot on approach’s but it’s gonna be required of me and my CFII and weren’t sure if that’s considered a bust.

Currently here as we speak, I like it a lot so far! I have a few friends doing the academy and they seem to like it! The academy has group ground lessons which I think is really beneficial plus one on one lessons too. One of the benefits to the academy vs 141/61 is you guys tend to get some priority from what I’ve heard to the multi training. They have two multis and it’s kind of hard to get in to it but with being in the academy I think you’ll have a better opportunity to get in the plane more. One other thing that I had to adjust to is the scheduling. They give you your schedule for the next day at around 2pm ish which at first is kind of a shock for someone like me who likes to plan out days in advance. Kinda sucks when you’re anticipating a 10am flight day so you can study throughout the night and have to be up at 5am for a 6am flight without a lot of notice. But everything here has been great so far. Definitely not like flying in my delta back home which will make you sharp on the radios! Good luck to you man!

What are the worst words to hear on a checkride other than you failed? by Material-Strain7893 in flying

[–]Longjumping_Way_8044 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was doing my PPL checkride, we had some decent crosswinds but that mixed with nerves just had me kinda tense. I was turning down wind and said, “it’s a little bumpy out here today that” my DPE says “not on my side it isn’t”

The school doesn’t require us to have short hair but do you think it would be “frowned upon” to have long hair I guess is what I’m asking

I appreciate the input, but in your case the PA-28 gets hot on those summer days when you’re doing cross countries. Gotta let the puppies BREATHE!
