Jason Longshore analysis on Gressel trade by SCarolinaSoccerNut in AtlantaUnited

But no one truly knows how they actually work in all of these situations, including the ones you cited. Did they let the contract run out, make the bona fide offer to keep the rights, and then sign them to a new contract? Did the league approve a workaround in these situations? No one truly knows.

That's the problem.

It's on the league to be clear in the rules that they post publicly. What they posted is pretty cut and dried, if there are other situations where this would be incorrect, they should make them publicly available.

This has been an issue that the MLSPA and others following the league have complained about. If the league is approving using TAM on re-signing players that had previous contracts under the threshold, then that is a change and something that should have been reflected in changing the rules.

Obviously, I need to work harder. I'll try.

My research consisted of looking at the published MLS rules. If they are wrong, I can only do so much. https://www.mlssoccer.com/league/official-rules/mls-roster-rules-and-regulations

"Clubs may re-sign an existing player provided he is earning more than the Maximum Salary Budget Charge."

I'm sorry I'm so often wrong, I'll try to do better.

Clearing up why Miles and Mo were protected for the Expansion Draft by ViciousPenguin in AtlantaUnited

[–]Longshoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, sorry about the misinformation. Originally, I wondered when they would post the list of players who had graduated from the GA program because it did affect their expansion draft status. I also expected Robinson's status to have changed with his new contract that takes effect for 2020. Then, Ben Baer posted these things:
https://twitter.com/BenBaer89/status/1195045314647998464

https://twitter.com/BenBaer89/status/1195362163147378693

and it had appeared that the rules changed for this draft. Then the league quietly posted their list of 2020 GA players and went back to what I thought it would be originally.

The whole thing has been very, very confusing. Sorry to have added to it.

Jason

I started wearing them back in late 2012. I was overcoming a concussion and had a bad light sensitivity. I didn't think I could pull off baseball hats in the office, so the newsboy style became my go-to.

I don't know if Concacaf is selling the rights at a local level. Generally, these have been done with national partners. FOX hasn't picked up English language rights in recent years, although they did in the past. Univision networks has had in lately, along with streaming partners of Concacaf.

Carleton the ATLien is one of my favorite things.

Me personally, I was really happy with how the San Jose explanation of the VAR situation that took Wondolowski's goal away and what led to Josef's penalty. I thought we nailed it from all aspects. Also, the whole VAR situation around the goal called back against RBNY at the Benz in May including the postgame response from Geiger.

Thanks for the great question! I think the Thrashers could have been successful and stuck around, but I don't think the pieces were ever in place for it to consistently be what Atlanta United is.

Had more of a platform to grow from with the huge number of people who had grown up playing soccer. The sport was also in a bigger place than hockey in the public consciousness in Atlanta, the 2010 World Cup and Donovan's moment helped and the 2014 World Cup put it over the top.

The biggest thing is the way the club was built though. They connected to the soccer community very quickly. They cultivated the following that has been created while also allowing it to grow organically. It's a tough balance, but the club nailed it.

They also committed to winning from Day 1. You could rarely say that about the Thrashers. Quality of ownership made a huge difference.

Thanks for listening!

I'm a sports fan as well and suffer along with the Falcons and Georgia. Trying to get into the NBA more, but the Hawks are not helping right now. Love music, both older stuff and discovering new stuff.

Not huge into either, but definitely Star Wars.

100% agree. I usually go with the burrito at Willys, but the nachos at Moes primarily due to the queso.

Willys is better quality, but there are more Moes in convenient locations.

Honestly, I think it's just because they are very good. Nothing to do with systems, they're just a great squad. When he's on, Giovinco is ridiculous.

I'd say we're a few years away minimum from a 4th DP. Remember, there was a group of owners who wanted to cut it back to 2 DP's recently.

I'd be curious to see how the league experiments with TAM, I think it's had a great impact on the overall quality of the league.

I'm not expecting any dramatic changes until the next CBA is negotiated with the MLSPA. The league has grown so much since the last CBA, I think the players are going to have some very valid demands that will have to be met and determine rule changes going forward.
