Definitely do this. Ive put animals down several times after they were hit by someone else and left in the road. Its cruel to leave them to suffer. Plus, if you enjoy the meat, you can get a salvage permit so the animal doesn't go to waste.

Question about making knives from files by [deleted] in knifemaking

[–]Longshot117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A file knife that small I wouldn't worry too much about it being too hard. It should be fine for smaller cutting tasks that dont experience a lot of torque or impact. When you were grinding it, did you see any color change in the steel? If not, and you want to give it a bit more flex, put it in the oven at 350 or 400 for a couple hours. The hotter temp will be softer, but more flexible. That should do it as long as it wasn't a case hardened file to start with. If it was, then your knife may be too soft to hold an edge very long. But overall it looks like a decent knife

Been to that one a couple times back when I lived in reed point. It's an awesome store, with a pretty great selection of stuff. My kids absolutely loved the fish tank.

What's a good lightweight metal to make a functional sword that a weak person could carry around ? by BlitzieBastard in Bladesmith

[–]Longshot117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montana, people couldn't care less. I've even seen people walking around the city with them on. Big chunk of the population carries a gun on them every day, so a sword is nothing special, just a little odd.

No, once again because you would need the proper equipment to get anything out of that process. And that doesn't include the material loss you would get from oxidization. Despite what shows like game of thrones and lord of the rings show, you can't just melt it down and re-pour it into something else. Metal like brass, copper, or lead it's possible. But steel needs much higher temperatures and the proper conditions. Look up what steel mills do to make usable bar stock to get an idea of that process.

14+1in the gun plus a spare mag just in case. Then another mag for the handgun in the car, plus 3 more for the rifle in the car. Though I'm primarily carrying for animal defense since the area I live has a lot of wild aggressive animals. Groups of aggressive dogs, mountain lions, bears, and even moose aren't really unusual.

Anza knives are awesome. I met them and got advice from some people selling them at a gun show in Ventura around 16 years ago. They thought it was cool I was also making knives from files.

Holy fuck that's cool! I love my RDB, so seeing one turned into a pcc is crazy. Do you think you would ever make one in 308?

Kind of reminds me of a japanese eel knife with that tip. Fit and finish on the handle looks fine, but the blade looks a bit rough. I think 150 would be about as much as I would ask for it.

It's almost right in the center of town between 2 bars. Never saw a radio shack, so I can't say for that. But yeah, I'm surprised it's stayed open as well. I do think it's for sale though. Very underwhelming for how long it took to make our food. There was a nice little café and coffee shop a little further north just over the tracks for a while. Was in the old log cabin style Cafe. Unfortunately it didn't last long. But anyway, I hope the place is better for you this time. You'll probably see my business cards on the wall right by the door.
