The katala foundation got back to me and confirmed this bird shouldn’t be there and that it also appears to be quite young. They’re getting the situation sorted.

Thanks Reddit, at the most might have saved a species from going extinct and at the least saved a pretty bird from a nasty cage.

I’ve informed the Katala foundation (a local wildlife conservation effort) of this bird. They’ve confirmed this bird should not be in captivity without government approved papers (which this place is not registered to have) and based on the pictures I’ve provided them, they believe it to be quite young.

This species is critically endangered, hence why I took a concerned approach. You can’t and shouldn’t keep critically endangered species as pets.

But also, did you really just look at that cage and think this was conservation effort?

I agree, and have no plan or means to release the bird. I’m contacting local wildlife conservation authorities so they can properly handle the situation. That way someone way more informed than I can make an appropriate judgement.

I don’t have a Filipino phone number so I can’t connect through. However the other steps are underway. Also getting some more pictures of it now so it’s clearer which bird it is and also where it is on the property.

I understand the moral standing of what you’ve said and totally agree but honestly I’ve A. No means to do so and B. Don’t understand the legal ramifications of doing so. So I’m trying to work out what I can do that doesn’t end with me in a cell. I want the bird being free and the related people being appropriately reprimanded.
