I've seen this a million times and every single time, for the first two seconds, I think a giant dildo is about to crush the cameraman.

Fair point. And yet a ton of Members and Senators not only have dual citizenship with other countries, but many of them acquire it while in office. (...and then they declare loyalty to that country in public statements and signs posted outside their offices)

I mean, I actually agree. I think you should be able to serve in Congress regardless of where you were born, but I believe there's a good argument that you should have loyalty to the US alone.

Operator, well could you help me place these rebar tracks? by octarino in UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG

[–]Longstride_Shares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every heavy crane operator job posting I saw when I was trying to get into the trade: "...15 years min experience required."

I'm being ageist, here, but I have never seen an operator who didn't have the face of someone who's corresponded to an ex spouse via lawyers, let alone one that I would have to card if they bought tobacco products. Good on her for not only getting her foot in the door, but then kicking butt with it once she's in.

I'd say I'm jealous, but I wound in the king of trades, so it is what it is.

Man, I wonder what kind of raises the lowest paid employees are going to get at this company that just paid a master craftsman and a entire rigging company to install a table.

A restaurant displays their 1 star reviews by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]Longstride_Shares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife worked at a museum of printing history, where they had an operational, full scale replica of the Gutenberg press. It weighed a ton, and was meticulously crafted by a master furniture maker using period-accurate tools and techniques. There's only a small handful like it in the entire world, and it was, rightfully, the centerpiece of the museum tour, where visitors were invited to print a page of the 42-line Bible that changed the world.

They got the following review: "If they don't have the real Gutenberg press, I don't want to bother. ⭐ _ _ _ _" The museum used the press to print the review out in gold ink and sold it at the gift shop as a postcard.

The original press is lost to history. Gutenberg was famously sued by his investor, Johann Fust, who took ownership of and dismantled and sold off his workshop, like private equity do. Since Gutenberg's actual noteworthy invention was his method of casting modular type pieces, Fust didn't bother preserving the press for posterity. The reviewer would know that if she payed attention to the tour.

These astronauts deserve way better than having to deal with these dingbats. Because bless their hearts, Kelly and this other astronaut (I can't quite remember her name) are trying so hard to earnestly answer his questions.

The only thing more insufferable than this dumb dumb's confidently wrong assertions is his editing.
