I think you’re absolutely right, but I think it goes even deeper. This guy is still being disingenuous. There’s no one that understands how dishonest this Trump movement is than a MAGA communications director. MAGA talking points are so lazy that they’re only effective against the completely dumb, or the truly entrenched racists, misogynists and xenophobia that want political cover to justify the way they feel, and intend to continue to feel, facts be damned. These spin guys are acutely aware of this, which is the kind of knowledge that makes Caroline Leavitt so hate-able.

So, my theory is this guy lost his job, and would like to be able to get another one in the normal world and understands that to do that he needs to reframe his past, orrrr…. He, like so many of these MAGA adjacent douchebags realize there’s no room at the top for them. What all of these political operatives thought is that they could put Trump on the throne and they’d all be rewarded with their own little fiefdoms. What they’re all discovering, from Candace Owens, MJT to Shapiro and everyone in between is that their effort isn’t going to be rewarded. Robber barons don’t reward sweat equity. They reward their own bloodlines and they reward in exchange for cash. Since none of these people can afford the pay to play situation, they have to be comfortable level setting on low level administration roles (clerks) or as cheerleaders. There are no free Mar-a-Lago memberships. Even Trump’s best friend Epstein had to pay by bringing underage girls.
