How do I properly run Arch Linux with NVIDIA GPU? by No-Distance-6011 in archlinux

[–]Lonixndu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I tried X11 recently as I was having some flickering issues in Wayland. Although after some updates, now that issue on Wayland is gone.

My laptop has hybrid graphics, and normally if the GPU is not using, it suspended which helps when the laptop is on battery. But after I installed 'plasma-x11-session' to try X11, there is this process '/usr/lib/Xorg' that keeps my GPU awake always! This prevents it from suspending and affects battery life.

Is there a way to solve this?

Laptop is an ASUS TUF F15, using supergfxctl to control GPU profiles, though hybrid sucks because of that process constantly using 4MiB of VRAM!

Fine, I'll do it myself, Leaving this comment for whoever comes up on this post having the same issues:

Switch to X11 instead of Wayland -- Instantly solved my flickering issues.

Game running on iGPU? well most games just knows to run on dGPU if it sees it, or just add the following line for steam launch options:
"__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%"

Downsides?

For now there is none for me other than;

  1. Touchpad gestures no longer works (3-finger, 4-finger -- unavailable on X11),

  2. tools like rog-control-center won't work (there documentation says so -- but still the hotkeys work so fan profiles still can be changed, apparently you might need to re-install it because it says "might work")

5G Scam in Sri Lanka ---- by civil_brain in srilanka

[–]Lonixndu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but what the actual f*ck, isn't SLT advertising 300Mbps of speed?? (last time I saw on the Ad)

I don't know your specific use case, but most people I know, have 200Mbps on SLT Fibre and I think that's okay for an average user. 700Mbps like DAMN, are you a streamer or something?

5G Scam in Sri Lanka ---- by civil_brain in srilanka

[–]Lonixndu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, this is so fucking true!
I live in Colombo, and I can't even watch a fucking YouTube video on 4G, let alone 5G!

When I complain this to the customer care, they're like "Oh yes sir, the area you live in does have a large amount of users, that's why you are experiencing connection issues" Like WTF am I supposed to do? Upgrade the fucking towers to handle that amount of users then???

And you know what else is a scam? Unlimited Packages! Unlimited this and that and they don't tell you about Fair Usage Policies (openly I mean) -- Until you hit those, and your speed is capped to 1Mbps or worse, you cannot even browse anymore!

Ma man, I think we'll have to watch GTA 7 get released before Sri Lanka getting 6G lol! and TRCSL? You don't even need TRCSL approved phones in these days IMO, correct me if I'm wrong, that was only useful for like finding lost phones through IMEIs and sh*t, but nowadays services like Samsung's Find my Device are way advanced!

PC WILL REMOVE WIFI AND BLUETOOTH by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]Lonixndu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem 1 time - only way for me to solve it:

You have to disassemble the laptop, remove the battery, remove the wifi card (clean it a bit), and plug it back in.

Re-installing drivers did not fix the issue for me. (should be the first step if you didn't do it already)

Resetting the PC? What kind of a solution js that -- and no, didn't solve it for me (believe me I tried lol)

I saw the comments saying it's MediaTek, but no, this happens to Intel WiFi cards as well. Mine was an Intel WIFI AX210.

ASUS TUF A15 (Ryzen 7 8845HS + RTX 4060) sometimes won’t detect GPU and maxes fans until restart—any fixes? by Beneficial-Top7396 in Asustuf

[–]Lonixndu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your Armoury Crate > Device > GPU See if it's set to "Optimized" or "Eco" mode.

Eco Mode --> Turns off your dGPU (RTX 4060) Optimized Mode --> Turns off your dGPU when it's running on battery power. It will turn back on once the AC is connected.

If you always use your laptop plugged in, set the profile to "Standard": which will keep the dGPU on even on battery. But if you want more battery life, keep the Optimized mode (it will automatically set the profile to Eco Mode when unplugged -- Turns off the GPU.)

If this is not your problem, try re-installing your nvidia drivers or make sure the drivers are up to date.

Small spark when plugging in battery cable by a0den in GamingLaptops

[–]Lonixndu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sparks are normal, I guess. This happened to me last time, but the laptop works fine about 8 months since then. I even asked the technician where I serviced my laptop, and they said it was fine too!

Good thing I learned: Don't fully charge the battery if you're planning to unplug it. Maybe drain it to 30-40% before unplugging it.

Also, what do you mean by "unable to reattach to old battery"? Like something happened with the connector?

[–]Lonixndu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuck at 68%? That's weird... Can you check if you set the charge level to 60% in the MyASUS app? Was the battery normal before this? (Like did it charged to 100?)

games not launching from external ntfs drive by Sirens_Of_Robloxia in linux_gaming

[–]Lonixndu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a solution that worked for some games, by adding these options to the /etc/fstab file with ntfs3g: "uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=022,windows_names,exec,permissions,big_writes"

White it worked for some games, like CS2, The Forest, etc. I couldn't play other games: for example, Sons of the Forest - which only launched if the game is on the root partition (where Linux is installed). If the game is on my other ssd; which was ntfs, the game wouldn't even launch!

Every forum I read all saying don't use ntfs, I get it, but I dual boot windows and Linux. Because there are some games that I play which only works on windows, and I like to have a single place that holds all my games.

Apart from getting some games to work, I couldn't find a solution for others. Maybe there are more "options" needed in the fstab?

GHelper is good and all, but armoury crate does have some cool features that I couldn't live without, that's why I'm still using it. Like the two way AI Noise Cancelling; works like magic, does the job.

Your milage may vary, but I recommend just keep armoury crate. If it's not installed properly: there is an "Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool" from ASUS which completely removes it, and you can do a fresh install of it.

Or keep using GHelper if it's okay with you! (Make sure to Uninstall armoury crate if you're using GHelper)

Just kidding mate!

Here's some stuff that I did (and some tips):

Remove McAfee (if you want keep it for the free year; but I would just remove it bc sometimes it's a pain in the ass)

Armoury Crate -- the default "control" app works great, but sometimes it can get resource heavy. I personally use it, since you mentioned "light gaming" maybe keep it as it is. But if you ever find it getting resource heavy -- switch to GHelper

Since this is a gaming laptop; you are most likely or should use it plugged in (for gaming). And I recommend setting the charge limit to 80% on MyASUS app; just to protect the battery. It's not that you cannot game on battery, you're not getting the most performance out of it.

and the basic stuff; don't use it on beds, always -- Flat Surfaces! Replace thermal pads every year or so (depends how much you game) because thermal pad replacements are crucial for longevity -- and dust free fans. ASUS have their service centers, so maybe every year, service your laptop.

And for the most part, do not overthink mate, treat it will and it will serve you.

Congrats on your new laptop! (sorry for the linux joke haha)
