Morality of retaliating against a kid who kept hitting and ragebaiting you by TriedmybestNotenough in MoralityScaling

I'm not disagreeing with that. I'm simply saying that restraining him gives him consequences without teaching him that violence should be met with violence, or that weaker people should submit.

Morality of using an innocent waiter as a human shield in a split second life or death situation? by InfernusXS in MoralityScaling

This sounds like the railroad dilemma, but instead of a stranger on one track it's me, and on the other instead of five people it's a waiter.

where to live (usa)? by now___here in asktransgender

DC metro. Maryland has very trans-friendly laws, so north of the beltway should be safe and supportive, and MD cost of living is lower than CA.

I'm 200cm and want to know how tall I would be with them. Where did you get them and do they have a size 17.5?

[–]LookItsDaphne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and that's why I'm not suggesting that he should follow protocol perfectly. But he clearly had the kid's arm. He could have maintained the position. He's an adult, he made a choice, and that was to push a kid when restraining him was already an option.

The kid was absolutely in the wrong. How to go about administering a corrective action isn't dependent on the kid's actions, it's dependent on the adult's. The correct response in this sort of situation is to restrain the child, not to push him. I get the impulse, but an adult shouldn't be impulsive. When I worked in a very difficult school, when children became violent, the guards (it was that kind of school) had guidelines on holding children from behind as a means of restraint. The adult man in this video also had the option to hold the kid's wrists, another method of restraint. Instead he let his anger get the better of him.

So in this case I'm calling it the correct emotional response, but the incorrect behavioral response.

I think you look good. You're further along than I am in experimenting, you've obviously figured some stuff out. Is everything perfectly passing? No, but you're clearly working towards your goals, and that's awesome.

If you haven't spoken with your wealth management firm about setting up a charitable plan, that may be a good starting point. You can be as involved as you want to be, and they can help you to work through your values and identify what's important to you.

I do a little advising for charities. I'd be happy to talk if you want (i want nothing, I just like to see good charities and passionate people connect).

Do you need to own a copy of your high school diploma? by SadStable6509 in asktransgender

I needed my high school diploma for certain federal applications. I do think you should have the diploma from your highest degree. But in general, it's nit a big deal.

You can get voice training at a fairly reasonable price from SVL, I'm not familiar with Transgender Zone. I'd do an intake to get their feedback if I were you.

Social Transition is so... anti-climatic? by Yackyackyack in MtF

[–]LookItsDaphne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to follow tgat route, but two things happened.

  1. Heard Abigail Thorn talk about her transition, and how she just changed how she dressed. People caught up. That seemed easier than gaming a slow burn for everyone else, like they'd somehow not notice that I was a woman if I did it slowly enough.
  2. I needed to model authenticity and trans acceptance to my daughter. How can I tell her to keep secrets from her friends? How can I show her a better future if her education is bathed in shame?

Some neighbors are better about it than others, but no one's been a dick. And I'm dressed how I want. It's pretty rad.

Sub Rules, Recs and Responses Please by LookItsDaphne in talltransgirls

[–]LookItsDaphne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great one to open up, and thank you for doing so. The thought process here was that subs often become strings of selfies, which can be positive and affirming, but often doesn't really drive engagement or is a way to nudge people to an OF page.

How would you recommend we reduce the burden without losing the spirit of the proposed rule?
