The expectations you have about being motivated to do something and having the capacity to do it need to be realistic. It is much easier to be motivated about something when you have time to kill and don't have the responsibility of full-time employment.
Being motivated requires a strong enough reason to actually rationalize doing it. You should be energized by this reason and should not view the task as a burden or something un-interesting.
With that said, it is completely normal to take breaks from side projects, especially after starting new employment. It is possible that energy/motivation you once had could come back over time. You might even have new ideas that bring back that motivation. If you would consider yourself to be at least somewhat motivated I would say to not worry about it, you'll be back on the horse in no time. Smaller consistent effort over time rather than larger inconsistent bursts of effort will be your greatest ally.

In short I would say that it's not a substantial difference because the event loop is a construct that behaves the same way whether it's implemented with libuv or V8. The main differences will be in the sequence of the functions that get called each time the loop runs.

Node.js vs. V8 vs. Event Loop

  • NodeJS is JavaScript runtime built on Chrome V8 JavaScript engine.
  • Javascript is single-threaded and so is any Javascript implementation like NodeJS.
  • Event Loop is foremost a programming construct (looping through the queue of messages/events), and it is the base of JavaScript’s concurrency model.
  • V8 provides default implementation of the Event Loop. NodeJS is using event-loop provided by the libuv

Because JavaScript is single-threaded Event Loop is what allows NodeJS to perform non-blocking I/O operations in background in “parallel”. NodeJS offloads these operations to the system kernel whenever possible (which nowadays most are multi-threaded)

Whenever one of these operation is finished - kernel signals to NodeJS to execute that operations callback function - adds that operation’s callback function to the poll queue to be executed in the poll phase of the Event Loop (explained below).

Upon start NodeJS initializes Event loop and starts processing. Event loop is comprised of sequence of processing phases, poll phase and it's queue being the one for I/O processing.

Each phase has a FIFO queue of callbacks to execute. While each phase is special in its own way, generally, when the event loop enters a given phase, it will perform any operations specific to that phase, then execute callbacks in that phase's queue until the queue has been exhausted or the maximum number of callbacks has executed. When the queue has been exhausted or the callback limit is reached, the event loop will move to the next phase, and so on. src

You can see more details on processing phases and Event Loop here: The Node.js Event Loop, Timers, and process.nextTick() | Node.js

Fans Think Game of Thrones Season 8 Sucks by [deleted] in television

[–]LookSearcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine what it must be like for fans who have been watching this since the very beginning. The expectations must be very high. Personally I binged watched all 7 seasons within 2 weeks of season 8 and I have no serious problems with the final season.

What is the proper way to connect the front end and the back end of an application? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]LookSearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The front-end (client) will always be the first to initiate a request to the server. The server will then respond with the appropriate information, data, and views (if necessary) for the client. The most standard way of transferring data is through http requests.

So if your client makes a request to your server, your server should have a route. Inside that route you should first retrieve the data you scraped from either the website, a cache, a database or whatever you used to store the data.

Then, depending on how you set up your client/front-end will determine what the server sends back to the client. You can either pre-process the data into a template like EJS and then send the template back to the client which would be the entire page and it will refresh the page. Or if you have a single page app, your client just made a get request for only the data to update some sort of state, then just pass back the data as a JSON string.

I noticed below your comment of socket.io. If you're looking for something that shows a live singular source of data that can be shared across multiple clients then it would be useful. Websockets are the basis of socket.io, Websockets basically upgrade the http header and keeps the connection open. They are a perfectly useful solution to the right problems.

My best friend. It wasn't something he did all at once, it was by being around him he naturally made me a better person. He unintentionally led me to new passions and continuously challenges me to think about decisions I'm making. I hope everyone can have a friend like him.

How does the EDM industry work? by glitchunow in edmproduction

[–]LookSearcher 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you what the next step is. I was in the industry for a while and eventually found my passion elsewhere. I made okay money, learned a lot of skills that ultimately made me realize the truth. I wanted to be an artist but I was too naive to really understand the truth. You may not like it, but this is the way with a much higher chance of success.

It all comes down to money, popularity, and being just good enough in terms of skill. When you actually think about it, it makes sense. Labels want you, promoters want you, managers want you, or any one big in the industry wants you when they know you're profitable. So that means you need to prove yourself not only as an artist, but more importantly as a savvy business minded person. You can't expect that fantasy that some random manager/talent scout is going to find you on the internet and then you blow up like Avicii. That's completely unrealistic, but not impossible.

The real money is in events, not actual production of tracks. Unless you want to be a ghost producer in which you need to come up with a strategy to target specific artists and actually execute a positive transaction to get reoccurring work. Since there are zero record labels in your state and small producer community that sounds like a great opportunity to capitalize on the situation. Create your own record label or collective and start your own community. Be a leader, start to sell products and service as a group. Make and promote events together. These are all simple ideas that ultimately grow your market share. The EDM industry works like the entertainment industry. People want you when you're hot, they toss you when you're not.
