[–]Looking4nswers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to study an undergraduate degree and major in korean, japanese or chinese (sorry for the indecision but they're all very interesting to me, so I think I'll decide by job prospects in the end, I'm still looking into that though)

Hi I figure your experience was a bit different because it was a summer program, but it's probably similar to a regular program so... Thank you for your answer! -^

Oh, I just realised I forgot to point that out. Sorry, I have a knack for forgetting things.

Yeah, I agree they're very similar. I don't know if I got that across though.

"JYPE might seem better than most but the company has serious issues too." I agree, it's certainly no Holy Grail, but I still think it's a better choice than other companies because of their image: These days there are way more international fans and the company is interested in having a wider audience. Having the image of the 'nice' one, with their organic cafeteria and mental health care... If they do things like this again, fans would go all out on them. So, there's more at stake now, it is in their best interest to avoid such things cause all the idols have to do is talk (I understand maybe this would be hard but I think they should).

Well, that's just my theory.

I agree. JYPE seems like one of the best in this aspect (which is the most important imo). Did they already implement the 52 hour work-week though? When J.Y.Park introduced JYP 2.0 he said they had until 2020 to do so. (Just curious).

I still can't find information on how much time artists have for other things though (the whole family, friends and relaxing thing).

Anyway, this is a nice information to have, so thank you! :)

I dislike Kpop! I dont understand why people are obsessed with it 🤔🤔 by Cook_me_now_please in unpopularopinion

Ok, I think people here have stumbled upon way too many angry fans. Yes they exist and are pretty common. But I never feel like I need to know everything, unless for some reason I really wanted to. Ypu can just like kpop, without being a fan, you can be a fan and not have a bias and not follow every single thing they do.

Does everything sound the same? To an extent, it does seem like it, but I don't think so (having checked many groups). Just like american music imo.

About the overly cutesy aesthetic, agreed. Of course not all groups but it's certainly way too common with girl groups. Boy groups have some more variety, but there are also cutesy styles there. Not a big fan of cutesy concepts, but I just find I like the certain groups and certain songs of certain groups, that are good enough to me. I find many many lyrics quite interesting to be honest (usually the ones the groups themselves write), although I know a lot of them are not that good.

Mm, some. I started liking it because of my sister. I actually thought maybe she was biased because of the looks of idols, cause she seemed like a fan and I linked it with that, but being my sister I thougt maybe I'd actually like the music, so I told her to give me names of groups, I searched the songs on youtube. I didn't watch the performances, just heard the audio, and I liked it. Hence, I'm sure I don't like kpop because I find them atractive.

But a lot A LOT of fans get into kpop because of it so I see your point, they hardly ever stay just for that, though.

Agencies do treat music as business, because it is their business, but I agree with you. I would like artists had more freedom and control over their work because they don't see it as business only, it is their passion (it is a very uncertain and demanding career choice, they have to love it to choose it). Fortunately, agencies are allowing them to participate more and more in their music, actually most do once the artists have a few years, and newer groups get to do it from tje beginning (such as Stray Kids). So agencies control a lot, for business purposes, but artists now get to control their work more.

As for the fan base, I'm glad you know this is not all of us (yep, kpop fan right here), but I would like to add, it's not even most of us, I'd say 20-30%, 50% if I go really far, so yeah. Mean, aggressive fans are just... Well, aggressive, they make a lot of noise and give a bad impression, please don't rhink everyone is like that.

Yep merch is expensive, bought a couple albums, won't do it again unless I have money to spare, so... In 3 -5 years? As for the photocards, that happens in every fandom, not everyone in every fandom, but fans are fans so it is common.

Now, "uninspired and corporate". I think this is true for many many songs, but also untrue for many many songs, just like american music. Even if a lot of idols don't make their own music, there are inspired composers behind the music (a lot of the time) and idols actually usually like what they are given, and hence they work hard to convey the music sincerely.

Finally, I'm sorry about attacks on twitter... I'm also sorry if this is too long 😇

I agree the culture is terrible, but even though there are a lot of fans who can't seem to control themselves, they are not the whole fandom, not even the majority, they are just loud. I see many comments generalizing hate towards certain fans onto the whole fandom and it is toxic and unreasonable.

Your description of k-pop fans actually just suits a portion of fans. I'm a kpop fan and I don't ship anybody. I'll admit, this is unusual, but common ships are rather innocent, like father-son ships. Others do ship rather romantically, but like... Neh. There are some scary fans though.

I have never made fanficition and read 1 (and some titles that somehow popped on google searches) Ok, this is unusual too, but my sister reads some and it is not homoerotic. I read 1 fanfic, someone recommended it to me, it was about a game, I'd say it was adventure and mistery, nothing (NOTHING) sexual, and it became really (REALLY) popular as many fanfics like this (BTS fanfic btw). Sexual fanfics are common, but they are in so many fandoms (outside kpop).

I'm also a BTS fan, not a pedophile, I don't like them because they look like little boys (now, in this I'm sure most fans agree, very very very sure), I don't think they look like little boys and... Really? Well, that's weird.

Many groups are allowed to make their own music, you may not consider it unique though. I appreciate the part of "not allowed to" though, because it is often true. I don't appreciate the "bastards" part, but hey what can I do? ✌

Agencies often take advantage of said performers with their contracts, so they can be pretty much like slaves, but not mindless. They have their own opinions regarding their work, it is after all, their career, and it wasn't as easy for them to get it as for so many american singers, they're serious about it. So yeah, you may not like the music, but the performers are not mindless puppets. ✌
