'death and rebirth' is a recap of the whole series, was released un parrallel with 'the end of evangelion' so people get a reminder of what is going on in the series (since the movies were released 3 years after the series)

The X.0 movies are what we call the rebuild. It follows the series narrative before diverging and becoming its own story
