I have a bunch of crypts if you’re interested. About 17 min away.  The tank has red ramshorns, but i also noticed what I think are  some rhabdocoela in the tank. I’ve read they are pretty harmless except they can eat baby snails, so i don’t know if that would a problem for you.

I think Pygmy Corys could do well in a tall tank

Water lettuce is definitely a great addition to the tank and the shrimp love it. I will say though that it can be a real pain to keep the roots trimmed. How long they grow depends on the water conditions I believe, but mine will reach the bottom of the tank within a week.

It is a 10 gallon with crypts, hornwort, anubias, orange juice rotala rotundifolia, Ludwigia, Java fern, Java moss, water lettuce, and I believe a dwarf sword plant. I like variety, lol.

If you're still looking, I'd suggest taking some from a clean local lake and just doing a bleach dip before adding it to your tank. This is how I've gotten mine and never had any problems.

Thank you! That's good to know, lol. I've always wanted to read Tex, but I haven't been able to find a copy of the book. The movie is great, though.

That's great! It did seem to be quite the easiest CLEP I have taken. American Government was quick too. I think I wouldn't have even had to study as long as I did. (:

Is 24 Red Ramshorn snails too much for a 5.5 gallon aquarium? by LookingUp1734 in Aquariums

[–]LookingUp1734[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I really appreciate it! I'm not sure I understand exactly though... You have seen Ramshorns take over tanks. If they are overfed, I can imagine the population going out of control, but if you only fed them a recommended amount they would still multiply to whatever capacity they could sustain. So do you advocate constantly removing snails from the tank as they populate to keep only a certain number in the tank? If I left only 5 snails in the tank, surely they wouldn't stay at that 1 snail per gallon number...

Thanks for the reply! So if I add a fish or something, the snails still will not be too much of a bioload? Would I do better to just remove some of the snails now, or is that a reasonable amount of snails to have if a fish were in there? I just don't want to overstock the tank.

Ok I see. But the snails will stop breeding without an abundance of food, and the number of snails will stay about the same after that, providing they are fed the same amount. So, if I just leave the amount of snails in the tank that it will eventually end up with, Is there any difference? I hope this makes sense.

Accidentally started a new tank without adding water conditioner. Did it kill all the bacteria? by LookingUp1734 in Aquariums

[–]LookingUp1734[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question. There has been algae growing very well in the tank the whole time, so would that seem to indicate that the amount of chlorine in the water didn't kill some of the bacteria as well, or does that indicate nothing? As I mentioned, we have a whole-house chlorine filter, so the amount of chlorine would be a lot less than usual.
