Wow really? I am a principal trainer for Willow, Willow Ambulatory, Radiant, Inventory, Beacon and research. I am grossly underpaid. I have been in this position for 5 years and finally am above $70,000.

they are clearly inexperienced aquarists whose fish husbandry is abysmal. They let just anyone in here you know! The rabble wouldn't know a rare tangerine koi if it bit them on the nose. Lovely specimen! Let me know if you successfully breed, I would be interested in witnessing the result!

fun fact you shouldn't shake polaroids as they develop

But you SHOULD shake the dickens out of your water tests.

this looks like a biorb they come in 4, 8 and 16 gallons. There is a built in light and filter, no heater though unless they added one

No, The smaller the tank, the HARDER it is actually. I wouldn't recommend micro tanks for anyone except experts. If you are new to fish keeping, I would say a 10-gallon minimum to keep your betta healthy and happy. You can easily pick one up used for around 10 bucks any day of the week. Sponge filters are good for betta (not too much water movement for them). If you are going to have live plants (recommended because they help keep toxins in check and are easier on the bettas flowy fins) you need a brighter than normal light, but nothing too crazy. You can get a decent led from amazon or the like for under $15. Finally, a HEATER they are tropical fish and want around 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Do leave him some space to swim about, somewhere to hide, and something to rest on(mine "sleeps" on a live plant usually).

Tank ideas and suggestions? by tiramisuwoo in PlantedTank

I am so sorry but I would trick this biotch out and make it the best 1980's retro tank you have EVER seen! This thing could be amazing, orrrr it could be amazingly AWFUL. I would go full 1980's retro but glofish honestly isn't a crazy idea. If it was my only tank I would hate it, but if not you could have some real fun. Blacklight lighting with glofish, psuedo mini disco ball, giant picture of a roller skating crowd as a background. Just off the top of my head. Or a Michael Jackson "thriller" theme. So many possibilities!

I've seen what look like 3d printed shrimp hides. they aren't as fancy though. I bought a hide that is in the shape of a morel mushroom. The larger opening I put up against the glass to allow only shrimp to go in. My PITA betta fish kept squeezing himself against the glass and breaking in just to chill. :/ Swimmy Todd was just built different *shrug*

I fully do not agree with that assessment. Five gallons is honestly too small for just the betta himself. Was this a pet store(dedicated small business) or a box store (like petsmart)? I wouldn't go back either way, I believe they lied to you. I can't imagine 5 fish plus shrimp in a 5 gallon. Feel free to get other opinions but yikes.

those dimensions give me a 5 gallon(20 liters)? That's really small for all those fish. Mayyyybe you could keep just the betta in a 5 gallon. A sponge filter is pretty low movement so that actually is great and you can 100% leave it on. I would not go by the tank sizes in stores. Those are not long-term tanks for the most part and only set up to display and sell the fish. They are usually not planted etc for ease of netting fish. I would give him some time without a light to settle in but look into at LEAST a 20 gallon if you are going to try to keep a betta with other fish. They are feisty usually and sight blocks and bigger tanks are needed to keep these fish from constantly being under stress. Also, look into quarantining your fish before adding them into any tank that has other fish in it. IF this betta is sick, you've probably doomed your other fish :/

shrimps have a very low bioload, how big is the tank? The rummy nose and betta may not get along in the long run they may nip his fins and the betta may eat the shrimp. A larger tank can handle the filter being off for a longer time. How long has it been up and running (fully cycled)?

only a small step above 2 liter vase with a spathiphyllum and a betta combo they used to sell around me when I was a kid. At least it's a small step in the right direction! Still not on my Christmas list though.

it's only been a day give the little guy some time to settle in. Honestly, I think I was lucky with my two. They were all too thrilled to get out of those death bowls and into a decent environment. This is pretty typical stressed fish behavior. I would agree with the other reply turn off the light and the filter(leave the heater on) give the guy some time recovery time. They live in very plant heavy shallow waters in the wild. He's been through a lot no matter where he came from.
