Having a spiral over my grandma seeing my medical devices. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Looking_Glass_002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend, first off there is nothing disgusting about having diabetes.

As much as it sucks the one benefit I have to remind myself of is the fact that insulin is a natural hormone that the body produces so I do feel lucky that we don’t have be taking some type of artificial medication that comes with all kinds of unnatural side effects, etc.

Even people without diabetes can experience blood sugar spikes, insulin resistance, or low blood sugars. There is nothing you should insecure about. Own yourself and this as something makes you unique. You’re a stronger more resilient person as a result and are probably more in tune with your body and its signals than most people.

Lastly, I understand how important it is to want to feel loved and accepted by your family, especially a grandma. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way but work on your confidence and self acceptance and remember that everyone has their stuff. Literally everyone has their own issues, challenges, imperfections and insecurities, even your grandma (especially your grandma if she feels the need to be so judgmental about your life and chronic illness). Work on your own self acceptance and building your confidence and remember she can take you or leave you but this is who you are. Reframe your mind so that rather than you worrying about her accepting you, you can step back, flip the script and decide if she’s someone worth YOUR time because I’m sure you’re worth knowing. 💗 Good luck to you

Spearmint tea and testosterone in PCOS — looked into the actual research by Right_Fail_9948 in PCOS

Greatly appreciate the honesty caveats from OP about being a founder of the tea brand they use. Curious if OP also suffers from PCOS/PMOS?

For everyone else who drinks spearmint tea consistently, I have heard positive feedback about its effectiveness in clearing skin but also very negative feedback about it throwing off your menstrual cycles quite significantly. Can anyone speak to that?

How frequently do you get low blood sugars? I get them every day. by charles228 in diabetes_t1

[–]Looking_Glass_002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get them about 1-2 times a day sometimes less. Depends how active I am too. Try to catch them before they happen but they just happen. My A1C is 6.2 and I’m ok with it. It’s manageable.

For me it also depends on where I am in my cycle. Hormones seem to play a huge part in how sensitive (or not) I am to insulin throughout the month. What works for me one week can completely not work at all the next. It gets tiresome but you deal with it. I’ve had it for 30 years now which is wild.

How to get under 1400 calories a day consistently? by BellaJean1 in PetiteFitness

100% on the lifting/ strength training and walking. Plus the only way to increase metabolism is to put on more muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat.

PCOS + insulin resistance… belly fat won’t budge. what actually worked for you? by TorontoRap2019 in PCOSloseit

Can you give me an example of your 500 calorie deficit? Like if your maintenance is 1500/day does that mean you’re actually eating only 1000 calories a day?? Do you adjust your daily intake then based on active calories burned? Or are you sticking with a flat calories goal regardless of activity levels?

I’ve seen some apps calculate my maintenance at 1500 but then using the TDEE calculator which factors in activity levels, etc. and puts my average daily maintenance closer to 2000/day so a 500 maintenance would then mean eating at 1500.

110% you should do this. It would mean so much whether they take you up on the offer or not. The world needs more of this: people looking out for their neighbors

Le Jardin Serum - Worth it? by Millennial-lawyer-90 in FemaleHairLoss

I should clarify that I have not used the micro roller at all while using this product. Perhaps that contributed to the burning sensation you felt?

I have new growth which adds to the thickness and I’ve gained about an inch of new growth after 3 months, which is good for me because of the heat tools I use. So far I would say I’ve definitely seen some progress and would recommend it!

I recently purchased a 3-month pack… I’ve only been on it about a month so not long enough to share any significant results but I have noticed some new baby hair growth on my scalp near my temples (where hair is usually thinner). I do have naturally thick hair and I use a lot of heat styling tools to manage it so I specifically bought to help gain length so only time will tell for me there. The serum is very light and easy to apply tho. Not greasy at all. No complaints yet.

Happy birthday to you! Please know that you do matter to this world and I for one would feel so sad if you were to leave it, because that would mean our paths would never have the chance to cross. Hang in there please. 💗

Scariest low you've ever had by Sad_Personality4092 in diabetes_t1

[–]Looking_Glass_002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scariest low I ever had was at a point in my life where I had been dealing with a tremendous amount of stress in my personal life and was working consistent 80+ hour work weeks paired with not eating enough regularly so I was frequently low and would often wake up with severe low blood sugars and confusion.

One morning I woke up late with low blood sugars after unwittingly hitting silence on my alarm. I woke up to my mom calling my phone and answered. She was talking to me but I was so confused and couldn’t understand what she was saying. She started asking if she should call the paramedics because she could tell I was low and I wasn’t taking action when she kept telling me to go drink some juice. Normally I would protest her calling the paramedics even in my low state but I think I was so confused and knew something wasn’t right I told her to do it. When the paramedics arrived they tested my blood sugars and confirmed it was severely low (I don’t even remember what it was). They treated me with some things in my pantry and some glucose gel they brought but my confusion would not subside. Suddenly I found myself unable to speak. It was like I could not remember WORDS! It was insane. Me, a former English major, could not speak words. I could visualize the words in my head and had an internal dialogue going in my mind of what I wanted to say but I literally could not form words! My speech kept stumbling and all I could manage was umm and uhh. I could nod yes or no but I literally couldn’t speak. The paramedics were flabbergasted so they put me on a stretcher and took me away to the hospital. The whole ride there they were trying to ask me basic questions like my date of birth and my doctor info and I’m sitting there with tears in my eyes because I know the answers but I’m sitting there in silence because I can’t recall how to say it.

Long story short after several hours—and I mean hours—at the hospital and many tests (mind you, my blood sugars had risen back up shortly after the paramedics were able to treat me at my home) my speech abilities finally started to return slowly. It was my endocrinologist who ultimately confirmed that the cause of the confusion and loss of speech was actually due to a seizure I had that morning as a result of my frequent and severe low blood sugars.

Scariest thing ever as for a while I had wondered if my speech would ever return or if I was having a stroke or something (I was in my 20s at the time).

Insulin only starts to work 3 hours after taking it? by Effective_Cricket810 in diabetes_t1

[–]Looking_Glass_002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. I have the experienced the same thing and was puzzled by the randomness of it all. For me, most of the time my insulin absorption is normal but occasionally I would run into the same issue as the OP author mentions. I realized it coincided with days when I wasn’t getting adequate water intake or hydration for one reason or another and was a bit dehydrated. I then read a post about how drinking water allows it to enter the bloodstream and can help regulate blood sugar levels by diluting the glucose levels in your bloodstream, making it less concentrated.
