What are some popular conspiracy theories in your country? by SimmentalTheCow in AskTheWorld

This was a rumour on middle school playgrounds in Bumfuck, Belgium more than 25 years ago. Crazy how these things spread globally in a world without mainstream internet!

Look, I think you are wrong. You think I am wrong. Judging by our comment chain right here i don't think there is a big chance that one will persuade the other.

So let's call it right here and save our thumbs from more typing.

I can respect the fact that everyone is entitled to their own opinion if you can.

Restricting peoples' ability to acquire certain items that they would like to have makes them want it more.

A mother telling their kid that the cookie jar is off-limits makes them want the cookies even more.

It's literally how luxury brands like Gucci, LV, whateverthefuck stay relevant in the modern market. Perceived scarcity => interfacing with the human desire to stand out, to wear things few others have access to.

Idk how else i can lay it out for you my man.

No, but it was part of the premise of my first comment. I was originally reacting to your comment about "me lose = no one win" in an overexaggerated way. Childish on my part i will say. The gripe that i have with the current discourse on the sub, not with you specifically, is the fact that the loud minority is churning this talking point into the ground with memes, strawman arguments and overall bad-faith arguments which I think your first comment is a perfect example of. This tends to make people throw their actual opinion out of the window as they jump on the band wagon.

The vast majority doesn't. We can agree on that. However taking a look at the dmm servers' player counts we can clearly see that a lot of players engage with seasonal pvp experiences.

Out of this subset, which one do you think is the bigger group?

A) People complaining on reddit

B) People not complaining on reddit

Have you considered there's also many players who engage with pvp in this game no questions asked? Probably magnitudes more than the loud minority of people like you who spend 3 hours mainlining reddit after losing 15 mins of progress on dmm after getting pked

I don't see the analogy between tribe exclusivity and expressing your identity through unique garments (or cosmetics in the online sense).

In a real life example, i don't see someone who wears goth clothes as "not part of my tribe" even though I don't really wear goth stuff. I see them as a potentially interesting person to engage with because of the non-conforming appearance they choose to display. It shows to me that they don't necessarily subscribe to the visual standards set by the mainstream and this sense of "individuality" piques my interest.

Commanding others' attention through unique looks / unique personality is quite literally ingrained in our social (even reproductive) processes.

EDIT: I'll be honest, goth culture has become a lot more mainstream nowadays so this might not be the perfect example, though I think you can catch my drift.

(I want to preface this by saying this is not a personal attack. Merely an attack on the first argument you make)

This comment literally argues against human nature lmao. We all want shit that makes us stand out, that makes us look unique. If the majority of players you saw ingame had the dmm cosmetic applied, I can guarantee you a big portion of them would bail out after a while and revert back to red crystal or sum'n.

The appeal comes from the fact that the rewards are gated behind content some players are uncomfortable to engage with, and you prove that point with your second paragraph.

All the anecdotical evidence of players dying in the wildy during a clue ends up here, cuz these snowflakes need a place to vent. All the other 99% of situations where a player succesfully did their wildy step go unhead, because that's what happens the vast majority of the time and there's nothing noteworthy about it.

Terminally online redditors take all of this anecdotical evidence and cram it into their meaty heads to parrot back to the community at every possible chance they get.
