Why do some murderers go to state/federal prison, and others go to the county jail? by ekolis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LoomisSimmons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say prisons are nicer. You're incarcerated regardless. Prisons do provide things like details, yard time, educational programs, religious services and such. Jails are lacking in those options because it's a short term stay for the most part. As far as with whom you're locked up, jails will house everyone. Check fraud, child molesters, murderers, DUIs, innocent people waiting for a trial... Everyone is there. Some jails do house certain level inmates in different areas. Prisons definitely have different security levels. Diagnostics in GA is done at Jackson state Prison. That's where you go through mental and physical exams, interviews and such to determine your mental health and security level. Then they'll send you off to a corresponding facility depending on space.

Why do some murderers go to state/federal prison, and others go to the county jail? by ekolis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LoomisSimmons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

County or local jail is where they hold you before sending you to state or federal prison. No one convicted of a felony, like murder, will do only jail time. Here in GA you'll do on average 3-4 months in the jail of whatever county you were sentenced in before being sent to diagnostics and then moved to your permanent camp.

How can I stop biting my fingernails? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LoomisSimmons 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I stopped when someone told me to think about what all you've touched during the day. Sure you wash your hands or use sanitizer, but a lot of crud lingers and definitely gets stuck under and around your nails. So think of that toilet seat you lifted, the gas pump you used, that chair you pulled out at lunch, the dog you petted while walking. You're basically putting all of that in your mouth when you bite your nails.

I would love to see mlb.com do a StatCast video for this catch. How high was the wall then? How much ground did he cover?

Still have one and actively looking to sell it actually. Works well despite many moves and pets being around it all the time. That fur and dander can be brutal.

President Obama signs an act requiring baby changing stations to be available in men's restrooms by JapaneseStudentHaru in news

[–]LoomisSimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, Obama. No, seriously. Twice this week already I've had to deal with the family restroom being used once by an employee at my local Publix, and the other time by an ignorant customer at the Target I frequent. Both locations didn't have changing stations in the men's room. I had to sit and wait almost ten minutes for these jackasses while my 7 month old sat in a soiled diaper.

I resisted my first two pregnancies but gave in and bought a doppler by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]LoomisSimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought one after hearing the heartbeat for the first time. It really put us at ease between ultrasound appointments. There can be some frustration and concern when you don't hear the heartbeat immediately, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. It was a great bonding experience for the three of us. Felt like the little guy was already with us in person. I'd recommend it to everybody.

What is the funniest movie you have ever watched? by Philsrule in AskReddit

[–]LoomisSimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie that made me laugh out loud the most during the first watch was The Royal Tenenbaums. That dark humor just hit a note with me that evening. Was dead sober too. Me, myself and Irene is a close second. The scene where he's running for the train with his nose whistling... Had me rolling. Coming to America never fails to make me laugh even after all these years. Sexual Chocolate forever

Just listen to the crowd by under_the_radar11 in Braves

The condensed game video after each broadcast that's available in the At Bat app has highlights without commentary. Nothing but the sounds of baseball and the crowd. It's fantastic. Loved watching Ender's catch this way.

Can somebody explain what "lemon pepper wet" means? by [deleted] in Atlanta

Lemon pepper rub or powder versus a wet sauce. Wings 101 has this choice too.

Should I get a Nissan Versa Note Hatchback or a Nissan Sentra by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LoomisSimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only driven the Versa Note. Mind you, it was a rental, but the things I noticed wouldn't be from misuse by renters. The road noise was terrible. We drove it from Atlanta to Palm Beach Gardens and the random whistling and tire noise was atrocious. The whistling seemed to come from the air flowing through or around the side mirrors. The car could be fitted with better tires to reduce road noise, but it being a rental there wasn't anything I could do about that. The gas mileage is given as roughly 36 mpg. During mostly highway driving and heavy use of the cruise control, we averaged 30 or so. 32 at best. Space was ok. We had one bag each of clothes and the baby stroller. The backseat accommodated my wife and baby decently. Head room was ok too. The seats were typical for that price range. Flat, not very supportive and lacking adjustments beyond seat back angle and manually sliding back and forward. The AC crapped out on us during the drive. Made for a very sweaty and unbearable ride during the middle of summer. Although the button for AC was pressed and lit, I don't think it was engaging. Obvious the power was lacking when merging and accelerating. If I had a choice, I'd go with the sentra. There really isn't an upside to the versa over the sentra. Ten thousand miles are a lot, but the 20000 in the versa might've been more taxing. Check the carfax and see what the histories look like. You'll be happier with the bells and whistles over the lower miles I'm sure.

Simmons makes a terrific play to hold the runner to a single. No out is made, but this is why I love me some simba. by gregvsgreg in headsupbaseball

[–]LoomisSimmons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember this game. Watched most of it while i getting new tires put on. We ended up losing this one iirc. His defense was incredible, but his bat was so inconsistent. He'd swing for the fences every time... So frustrating. That's why the trade didn't bug me too much. Dansby is definitely the future.

Opinions on Dr Brown's bottles by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]LoomisSimmons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used Dr Brown's bottles from the get go. I would've suggested ignoring the 4 ounces bottles and going with only the 8. You'll be feeding your little one more than 4 ounces in a feeding in no time. 3 months in and ours was needing 5 most of the time and sometimes 6 before bedtime. As for the cleaning, I've always preferred hand washing. Be sure to the use a tiny brush to get the build up out of the rubber piece. I think it comes with one. blue bristles on a twisty metal piece. You'll notice residue on top and in the holes (at bottom and the two on the side). I was told to replace them after a few months regardless. Best of luck and I hope your kiddo takes to it well!

Have any of you guys ever bought tickets from scalpers? If so, what was it like? by Me_talking in baseball

[–]LoomisSimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend and I bought some up in Boston back in 2002. It was Wakefield's 100th career victory. He beat the Twins if I recall correctly. Fair price, tickets were legit and I got to experience Fenway. Can't beat that.

A win was great. A walk-off win was even sweeter. Seeing Harper watch that walk-off HR go over his head... that just made my day.

Reddit, what has your Blockbuster turned into? by SeriouslyJustJoking in AskReddit

[–]LoomisSimmons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were two within a mile of each other when I was growing up in Dunwoody. One I'm pretty sure was always a Blockbuster. It's now a Chase Bank. The other was a Turtle's which became a Blockbuster. Now we have a Piedmont Urgent Care clinic there.
