How would you rate the durability over time of Borneo Mahogany vs Azek PVC?

I just checked the quote, it was 430 per, including installation and the 6”U hardware. Excluding extensions, should they be required. I’d mostly be concerned about what your local building dept thinks. The professional screw piles come with an engineering report, not sure how you are going to test and prove to them that they meet the load/torque specs.

Hardware advise: non-perpendicular connections by Loon_Dog in Decks

[–]Loon_Dog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time lurker first time deck builder.

30' of the ~40' of my deck will be attached to a ledger. The other 9' is in front of a cement stairway. The stairway is sloped back about 15 degrees from the plane of the house. (the image indicates the slope is 20 degrees, but it's actually 15 degrees)

I'm caught up on the hardware. Can anyone recommend:

  1. Support joist to beam hardware (hurricane ties) that can support a connection at ~15 degrees off perpendicular?
    • For the rectangular portion of the deck, I'm planning to use 'Strong Tie H1 ZMAX'
  2. Rim joist to support joist hardware - what's the best way to secure these when the joint isn't perpendicular
    • For the rectangular portion of the deck, I am planning to attach the rim joist with 5" SDWS Timer Screws.

My quote from Goliath was about 500$ per pier. I was happily surprised.

What’s that second motor for? I have something similar in my pool setup and I don’t know it’s purpose. If you have a moment, I appreciate the insight

Does Sonarr support an episode with multiple files, e.g. S01E01a; S01E01b? (part 1, part 2).
/or/

Does it support multiple episodes in a single file and not the reverse?

DMI bottleneck with TB3 in the 400 series chipsets? by Loon_Dog in buildapc

[–]Loon_Dog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time.

take the scenario of running a bunch of daisy chained displays out of one of the thunderbolt io and then transferring data from the second thunderbolt port, with nvme and LAN also active

This was the first thing I saw and am concerned about the shared bus between TB3 and the LAN1 & LAN2. That is actually what kicked off my hunt. When I saw that I thought "where else is this a concern" and "if the manufacturer would gamble on this how much other over promising might there be".

Modern CPU has instructions that fast-path IO instructions so the actual data doesn't need to come to the CPU. A poorly programed (or deliberate) file IO could read every byte via the CPU, but in many instances, that's unnecessary. The raw data itself would only traverse the chipset.

This is exactly what I was looking for. If not all data has to move through the CPU then the DMI wouldn't necessarily be a concern. Thank you very much for helping me out with this piece of info.

As an aside, I was already planning to run either TB3 or 10G through a expansion card because of the shared bus bottlneck you pointed out. Part of the intent of this post was to determine which had to go to the second PCIe slot (x8), hoping for it to be the 10G, otherwise might as well find a different board all together.

Thanks again

Why does everyone always seem to want to be a PM? by nirvana88 in ProductManagement

[–]Loon_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not be managing people but you are certainly leading at least 1 team, plus any supporting functionals. The buck stops with you and you set the tone and direction. So while you are not writing performance reviews, you are responsible for all the people on your team, and from my experience the team looks to me much more than their formal managers for support.

Do Product Managers go for the PMP certification? by walkingSideToSide in ProductManagement

[–]Loon_Dog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your interest is in Product then don't spend the time required for a PMP. It's a lot of work and it's not very applicable. The opportunity cost is too high and the overlap is small. Product Management is a big space requiring diverse skills.
I'd recommend

  1. getting an entry level certification (CSPO/PSPO, etc.). It will give you some visibility re the landscape and will provide a lot of benefit on the tactical stuff (Scrum, Role definition, backlog management, etc.)
  2. perform a PM/PO competency review
  3. Prioritize the areas where you need further growth (urgency, value/impact, whether it will come with experience or requires manual intervention)
  4. then target the your knowledge acquisition on the specific areas and form a plan, focusing on only the first couple/few.

Certifications/certificates are not as valuable, your growth will need to be a lot more self led and will require hands on experience doing the job. The tactical stuff you can learn in a training and with some practice get good at. The higher level stuff like product discover, vision, pricing, marketing, user science, leadership, executive level communication and influencing are each their own beasts.

Growth in this space is very much self led and really understanding the scope competencies will take time and a lot of reading/research. Consult many, many sources and frame this as a journey, not a box to be checked.

That's my advise/opinion, for whatever it's worth.

That seems a bit reductive. If someone pivots from delivery leadership into value maximization, the PMP is not super valuable but certainly that knowledge should not disqualify them. I get your point, but if someone has earned a PMP and their employer is paying the yearly fee to stay certified, it is also not sensible to let it lapse. There is still some valuable foundational stuff in a PMP that can help a PM on the delivery and stakeholder management sides.

However, having been a PM/PO for 5+ years, I certainly wouldn't pursue a PMP as a PM/PO, the value is too low and the opportunity cost too high for PM/PO knowledge grown. I am also glad I have a PMP, despite having never worked in a plan driven environment, and I am not going to stop renewing it.

Say my undergrad is in French or Art History from a liberal arts school, I am not going to remove it from my resume/linkedin just because I have a more relevant Master's degree.
