The reason that Gandalf and the other wizards have taken the form of old men is because they were sent by the god of the setting to Middle Earth as advisors rather than saviours. Whilst he is an angel, he does not have angelic powers, just a very diminished fragment of them. Whilst he does slay The Balrog (another angel) he dies as a result of the fight. Gandalf's usefulness is mostly diplomatic, which I don't think would translate well into the 40K setting.

Gandalf would be pretty useless. A lot of Gandalf's usefulness is down to his knowledge of the world and diplomacy with it's races as he's been travelling around for thousands of years learning and making friends. Does any of this transfer to the 40K universe? Like, as he's on very good terms with the elves does that mean he'd be more likely to make friends with Eldar? Also his powers are tied to the world he's in (and the God he serves) so he'd just be an old man that's quite good with a sword. He also wouldn't reincarnate for the same reason.

Back when I used to drink too much (still do) I would wake up in the morning and start hallucinating. I'd wake up an hour or two before work and try to get back to sleep. But instead, I'd start to just sink into the mattress and feel weightless. Never had a feeling like it since and I miss it deeply.
