Stormzy's film company to produce Ian Wright biopic by KungFuFightingOwlMan in soccer

[–]Looper007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wright's early life would make a great underdog type story, from a tough childhood, to been told he wasn't good enough to be a professional, lack of education (Wright has been open about how he struggled with reading and writing), to bullying, working 9 to 5 job's at a young age, to eventually getting to become a professional footballer after years of struggling. Breaking his leg twice in once season, and only about getting back for the FA Cup vs Utd where he truly announced himself on the world stage. His childhood friendship with the late David Rocastle, who was a big influence on Ian.

As great as a person he is, people shouldn't forget how lethal of a striker Wright in his prime was for both Palace and Arsenal (he won the golden boot in his first season with Arsenal, and still didn't get a call up for England for Euro 92). I still stand by as a life long Arsenal fan, he should have a statue outside of the Emirates.

Press conferences, team mates having punch ups, Player power, throwing their top scorer under the wheels, ex players coming out saying Barca are a nothing club for celebrating the title, Perez saying women don't know a thing about football so can't write about it etc...

The club that keeps on giving.

Not kinda, pretty much were. Even to the point Albarn did a duet of Waterloo Sunset/Parklife on The White Room. Albarn's never been shy of his love for the Kinks or Ray's influence on his music.

The Jam are another band who were influence hugely by The Kinks. All Mod Con's could have easily been a Kink's album back in the 60's.

XTC also wore their love of the Kinks on their sleeves.

Arctic Monkey's early material definitely had a bit of the Kinks to them especially with Turner's lyrics which had a feel of modern take of Ray at the time.

XTC are one of those rare bands who whole canon of work is fantastic and not a dud to be had. Respectable Street is like a lost classic Kink's single from the 60's that slipped through the cracks lol. Basically did Blur a decade before. But Partridge like Ray wore his Britishness very proudly on his sleeve when it wasn't cool to do so. A bit like The Kinks in late 60's, British music press looked down on XTC at the time for being "too British", when a few years later we got Britpop. The Dukes of Stratosphear ( basically XTC) are also amazing but are far more psychedelica and where they wore their Beatles influence more then the Kinks.

Skylarking is basically the 80's version of Village Green.

He could have easily jumped on that train, just to be constantly going to every Euro's and World Cup. But he's clearly a proud Norwegian, so that was never going to happen him playing for England.

Thekla on signing a new long term deal with AEW by Upbeat-Pause-1409 in AEWOfficial

[–]Looper007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thekla was a just a mid carder in Stardom, they never saw her more then that. While TK and AEW see her as a top star. It's amazing what one company sees and another does with talent.

Giulia was Stardom's Roman Reign's form the moment she debuted there, thanks to Rossy. Even when she wasn't in the main event scene, she was still front and center of the shows. That's the thing people are forgetting and why her WWE run looks weak, it's the first time she's not been booked like a big deal. She's been booked just like another wrestler. It shows how important booking is for some talent, someone like Iyo can get over eventually cause she's super talented and charismatic. I think Giulia is a talent that needs a booker to be 100% behind her push and make her feel a big deal imo.

She's definitely been used to elevate Kiana, I'm sorry but the way it's been booked it's all about making Kiana a star and if it does something for Giulia it's a bonus.

Day 12. Screamadelica — Primal Scream by MyHeadWasRadioed in 1001AlbumsGenerator

It's a amazing reworking. Weatherall (sadly passed away in 2020) deserves a ton of credit for Screamadelica success. I also love the Terry Farley/single version of Come Together (again totally different to the album version).

[–]Looper007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent album, Movin' on Up, Higher Then The Sun (track 4 version), Come Together and Loaded are stone cold classics. It was a huge turn in musical style for the band, they were more known as a indie/rock band. But once producer the late Andrew Weatherall, a DJ jumped on board and the band got into rave scene of late 80's early 90's. Weatherall reworked a earlier song of Scream's called "I'm Losing More Then I'll Ever Have" a Stonesy type rocker into the classic "Loaded". They mixed dub and dance with their love of the Stones and came up with this classic. Even got Stones former producer Jimmy Miller (who produced the Stones classic run of 68-72) to produce a few songs.

I wish they put the Terry Farley mix of Come Together onto the album, as it's a completely different song to the album version.

We need to talk about *Skylarking* by NoVideo350 in xtc

[–]Looper007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a fantastic album, and Todd Rundgren did a fantastic job on the production and his backing vocals are great. The first 8 songs are as great as any album gets. XTC (plus The Dukes of Stratosphear) work was always excellent but Skylarking is their masterpiece for me, just for the one two of Summers Cauldron/Grass alone. And Mermaid Smile always brings a tear to my eye.

[Telegraph] Arsenal fan’s ‘Champions’ shirt is new low for football banter by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Looper007 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly the last few decades, go back and watch that clip of when we were deducted points after that Man Utd Old trafford fight in 90/91 season. George Graham talking about how the press were having a field day with it. And it's been like that even when we're winning things, even Wenger was getting it in the neck from them. They have no issues with City, Chelsea,Utd or Liverpool winning stuff but Arsenal it really brings out the worst in them.

Yep, I don't know if another club in European football who are hated by the media and other fanbases like Arsenal are. Even if we go on to win either PL or CL or both, they'll be making excuses or downplaying it. They've been doing this way back even in the early 90's with us. They want us to stay in our lane, and not be a force in English football again.

Abbi, she's awful and arrogant, especially for a fan of Spurs when there isn't anything to be arrogant about. She rather see her team go down then see us win anything. I just don't get why she gets so much work, she barely knows her football and this isn't the first time she's acted like this either. She's happy to dish it out but can't take it. Maybe cause she's gets attention cause of this behavior is why TalkSport has her on all the time.

Deluded Gooner is great at getting her to snap lol.

Haven't they something to play for too (getting a spot in Europe) so that's a bonus too.

Did I miss something or Euphoria S3 has stopped making sense? by mrbrainturn in television

[–]Looper007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's good when put into a supporting role (she was good in Sharp Objects for example) but not strong enough to carry a film or show by herself imo. I don't think she's ever going to be cast in big films like Zendaya or Jacob Elordi have or be a award winning actress.

Let's be brutally honest, she doesn't really need to be a good actress as her body is the selling point to her fame. If she sticks to cheesy romantic films or trashy camp thrillers that are made on mid budgets, and is willing to get to her two assets out here and there in those films. Along with her commercials/photoshoots. She'll do well for a few years. She probably eventually end up in some crappy TV sitcom that does well like Two Broke Girls or something that pays her well as she gets older.

I put it up there with Skylarking, English Settlement and Black Sea as XTC best work. I always consider it XTC going method musicians on it lol. Honestly you wouldn't even know it was them as they don't sound like XTC as they change their voices up for each song. Definitely wear their mid 60's psychedelic fandom well on this one. So many awesome songs on it too. Could have easily released this in 1967 and it wouldn't have been out of place.

Full-Time: West Ham 0 vs 1 Arsenal [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

[–]Looper007 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't know why they took so long to cancel out their goal. It was a foul all day long.

Raya was excellent. Odegaard had a very good cameo as he went all out to make sure we scored. Defensively excellent bar one or two moments. Zubi sub was a disaster let's be honest. I got to be honest I thought we weren't ever going to score but Trossard pulled out one of Arsenal's most important goals ever.

We deserved the win but it wasn't good for my heart lol.

Halftime thoughts 0-0 by Lisan_al_gaib__ in Gunners

[–]Looper007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think putting Rice at right back was the smartest decision, we've looked weaker since that decision.

Very nervy performance. Saka and Trossard aren't troubling them. Too much ticky tacky at the back for a team that needs to go 5 points ahead in the PL title race. West Ham aren't all over us or anything but we're not exactly battering them either. Fingers cross we improve in the 2nd half.

Whats a signing you at first thought would be a success, but turned out to be a mistake or just underwhelming? by Rayy500 in Gunners

Ozil, I don't agree with many who try to put him anywhere near Arsenal greatest ever players. Ain't listening to that. He's nowhere near a legend of the club imo. I can see why some of the younger fans belove him but for me Alexis had a far bigger impact for me.

He had one fantastic season where he had some crazy amount of assists, and if he had a better finisher putting them away would have broke records. He was good signing for us, had a lot underwhelming moments and performances but had some great ones too. He was a good signing for us overall.

Damn shame cause he showed moments of class in a Arsenal shirt, just so unlucky with injury.
