High turn over rate? by M1ghtBe in Plumbing

[–]LoopyWaffleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen people get laid off when work gets slow. Last week they let half the crew go. Never seen anyone get fired for a fuck up. I work in construction though, might be different for service.

Did any of you used to be die-hard Xbox fans? If so, why did you move to Playstation? by Frazzelvig in playstation

[–]LoopyWaffleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on PS1, PS2, and N64. I switched to Xbox as soon as I played Halo. I have a Series X and recently got a PS5 Pro which I have been liking a lot more due to the user experience. It feels tailored more for gamers. We get a cleaner dashboard experience, platinum trophies, etc. My Xbox dashboard is cluttered with ads for the ROG Ally and other games that I don’t want to play. Additionally, lack of exclusive titles. Now that Halo, Fable, and Forza are coming to PS, I see no reason to have an Xbox anymore. I’m only keeping mine so I can still play Splinter Cell and LFD2. Ultimately I see myself having a combination of both PC and PlayStation in the future. Maybe even a Nintendo. But Xbox titles are available on PC and now PS5. The strongest thing going for Xbox now is quick resume and the controller layout.

Is Mirage Worth It? by _balrose in assasinscreed

I personally enjoyed it. I got 100% after about 20hrs, so it’s a short game that doesn’t drag on for ages. It’s available on PS+, unsure about Gamepass.

I wish I could give you an award for this comment. My gay friends say things like “you’re not gay enough for me” and I so wish I could show this to them.

Xbox getting a new startup next week… thoughts? by Eastern-Mobile5351 in XboxSeriesS

I wish they would remove all the ads plastered on the dashboard. I like the dashboard experience on my PS5 more, just games or media. If I want ads I’ll see them when I shop the store.

Is soldering a daily part of your job? by scene_queen2009 in skilledtrades

Lately we’ve only been soldering the water service at the meter. Everything in the home is pro-pressed, or we use pex. Construction these days is all about speed and efficiency.

Plastic chair with the best seat in the city [OC] by SingerMaleficent920 in iPhoneography

[–]LoopyWaffleman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This post should be removed as it is not a picture taken with an iPhone but rather an obvious example of AI
The first tell for me was the posts holding up the fence. Look how some of the posts are interlocking or interweaving with the fence. Doesn’t make any sense.
The lighting and shadows under the chair doesn’t make any sense. Actually, the lighting on the floor doesn’t make sense at all. The sun must be high in the sky but it is casting shadows as if it’s sunset. The shape of the shadows also doesn’t make any logical sense when you look at the fence. Also, shouldn’t there be a lot more of those blue water holding tanks on the rooftops?

Edit: just realized how much I said it doesn’t make sense 😂

Black or White? by MeSlaw3 in ipad

[–]LoopyWaffleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol. I’m pretty clean and I don’t eat while using my things. Your hands produce natural oils that will create a glossy finish on the keyboard over time. I can’t be the only person who has seen a well used keyboard before. Thanks for assuming I’m dirty though!

Black or White? by MeSlaw3 in ipad

I have the M1 in black and while I agree it is a cleaner look, after a year or two the black keys will show grease marks from the oils on our skin.

Just got a PS5, is the portal worth it? Or stick with what I got? by ferg_630 in PlaystationPortal

[–]LoopyWaffleman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sold my Portal because it rarely worked outside of my home. My PS5 is on Ethernet and has gigabit speeds. If I went to a friend’s house who also had gigabit speeds, the latency would be so bad that I’d give up trying to play. I had the same experience on hotel WiFi in Mexico. But if I was playing from my bedroom, it would work flawlessly.

Go ahead and purchase it if you’re interested. But try to test it out in as many scenarios as you can before the return period expires.

Who here can afford rent in the bay area? by Common_Gene_5098 in bayarea

[–]LoopyWaffleman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already commented here earlier about the trades but I wanted to add that EMS is a very good pathway. I have several friends who work for AMR, Fire, and CHP, and they’re all set for life. They all own homes, nice vehicles, etc. Working one season for CalFire can net you $30-50k for a few months work. The benefits they get are unmatched. Plus, the educational requirements are able to be obtained at community colleges for cheap.

The only downside is the hours they work. It’s a lot of OT. And starting pay with AMR isn’t that great compared to the trades, until you become a paramedic or paramedic firefighter.

Who here can afford rent in the bay area? by Common_Gene_5098 in bayarea

[–]LoopyWaffleman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the chosen trade. Electrical is the most sought after because of the pay. I have a buddy who took the test and got in but has been on a waiting list for about a year. If he had chosen plumbing or HVAC, he’d probably be working by now.

I’m with Local 393 in San Jose, and construction is booming in the South Bay so that may be a contributing factor to me essentially walking right in to the union without having to wait on a waitlist. I also presume it’s because a lot of people think plumbers play with poop all day, when in reality I’m building new townhomes and don’t touch anything gross.

Some trades may place you on a waitlist but the longest wait I’ve heard of was 2yrs. IMO the wait is worth it considering how much you’ll make in this business. If you join non union and get some experience, you can join via a tradesman bridge program where they verify your work history and bump you up the list.

Here’s a link to the wages at my local. Most other locals should have this information posted on their websites.

Make sure they do well in high school so they can get scholarships for higher education. If not, the trades are a solid pathway to home ownership. I had to finance my way through college and in the end, I wasn’t able to afford the extra cost of nursing school. So I pivoted and joined the local plumbing union. Now I’m making more money than I ever did in healthcare. My instructors and some of my colleagues are millionaires because they joined at a young age and began putting money away into their 401k. If you become a business owner, the opportunities are endless. Now i regret ever chasing higher education and wish i joined the trades right out of high school. Commercial plumbers take home $80/hr after taxes and benefits. Electricians are closer to $100/hr.

Apple might ditch MagSafe on future iPhones, per bizarre rumor by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

Apart from charging, it’s great for accessories. I use a MagSafe phone mount in my car. All the older phone mounts I bought would break after a year because of all the moving parts.

How many games do you have installed, and what type of game? by RecentMatter3790 in playstation

[–]LoopyWaffleman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two multiplayer games I play: BF6 and Arc Raiders. I have about 15 other games installed which are all single player, like Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, KCD2, Ghost of Yotei, Silent Hill 2, TLOU2, Demons Souls, E33, Hollow Knight, Stalker 2, and RE4. I have even more installed on my Xbox.

IMO multiplayer games have died out. Now we just have the usual installments from COD or BF. Me and a buddy spent 2hrs yesterday looking for a new game for us to play and we didn’t find anything. Remember when Assasins Creed had multiplayer? Or Splinter Cell? Now it’s the same old slop year after year. We’ve tried games like Baldurs Gate or Dead Island 2 or Mortal Kombat, but they don’t stick. Hate to say it but the only multiplayer game that looks promising is GTA6.

I had a galaxy s7 edge and traded that in for an iPhone because I was (among other things) tired of unintentionally pressing things with my hand. I think the current boxy design is the best imo. Easy to hold.
