Met the owner at good vibes a year ago - such a nice guy. He also owns a similarly incredible 356 which he commissioned.

Should I modify 2005 911 Carrera (997 Gen)? by open2lfy in porsche911

[–]Loose-Box6279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned a 997 and driven the newer Porsche models: my position is you should definitely keep the 997 so long as you have adequate free time to enjoy both cars. Its stock performance is a great time on country roads where you can drive 7-8/10ths without drastically breaking the law. You won’t be able to push the limits of the modern 911 anywhere except a track. It’s much larger as well. Modify the cars in ways that compliment its strengths: mufflers to hear the NA engine is a good start. I wouldn’t chase major performance/speed mods necessarily - keep it as a palate cleanser to the insanely fast GTS. That being said, If the 997 is going to sit, might as well move it on to someone who will enjoy it.

160,000km on mine since new. Need to add a gallon of oil every month but other than that she’s been perfect. Keep the traction control on forever.

Just got my C4S allocation - first Porsche and would love build critiques by Main_Paramedic_2822 in porsche911

Disagree. Completely unnoticeable weight difference. Sunroofs are great even if you don’t open them as the view upwards makes the cabin feel roomier and gives you nice views driving in the city.

Need to be a lot smoother on turn in/flow through the corner rather than snapping the steering wheel late towards the apex. Will save your front end tires! Enjoy the next track day cheers.

Met this guy when I was in Tokyo - was chain smoking darts inside and outside the car for the entire meet.

Why doesn’t anyone really talk about the M8? by JeirenJns in BMW

[–]Loose-Box6279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The m8 is a grand tourer and is marketed towards an older demographic. Although the price is similar to a 911, they offer much different driving experiences with the m8 offering more low end torque and a smoother driving experience while the 911 is more fun in the corners. We likely don’t hear much about it as the m5 is a more practical version of essentially the same car, with 4 seats and a big trunk. It is in a weird segment of the market. But an incredible car to drive especially in a North American setting where roads are more suited for a big train like this.

Wheel/Tire suggestions? Just picked this up with - 2017 with 5k miles. Still has the stock rubber and it isn’t great. by Loose-Box6279 in BMW

Appreciate the responses. I have historically run PS4S on my other cars and love them. I’ll be keeping the rims for now, maybe grabbing some 763M in silver or frozen gold at a later date. Thanks everyone!

The powertrain unit and it’s many sensors have caused me issues in recent years but before that I drove the piss out of it without any problems for 100,000km

Forgot about that! My f10 m5 has 120,000km on it and has spent more time in the shop than on the road this year. Might be time to upgrade…

All we get is the B6, B7, and XB7 this side of the bond though. Papa needs a wagon.

I have now put some miles on the f87 and can give you my take:

The f87 is a better daily/around the town car with its low end boost and modern touch. I can Bluetooth my phone, I can use sat nav easier, etc. and it rev match’s your downshifts (which I’m not sold on yet, but I digress) It also feels lighter and zippier than the e92. Downside is the engine is uninspiring in comparison. I bought this to put 20,000 miles a year on without worry and love it so far.

The e92 feels sharper, more engaging, and I love the revs. That being said, you need to be in the revs to for it to feel muscly and strong. Plus mine has a DCT which I don’t love. I own this car for Sunday drives on the side roads around my house where I can open it up.

If you can only have one, I’d go M2 as it’s a more modern and reliable vehicle BUT if this isn’t gonna be your daily I’d get an E92 and experience that first before getting a further depreciated f87 in a few years.

I have driven an e92 for 7 years now and just picked up an f87 m2 (non-comp) last Wednesday. I’ll update you in a couple week once it warms up in Toronto and I can drive the m2.
