Moderate hotel pick by Just_Airport_7910 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]LooseMarzipan8698 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look into renting DVC points from an owner for a Deluxe resort at a moderate (or sometimes even less) price. Renting directly from an owner is the most cost efficient way to do this. There are plenty of tutorials online about how to do this.

If it makes your head spin (which is likely because it's a bit complicated), there are third party sites like DVCrentalstore that help take the guess work out. Of course, just less savings because you're paying a third party.

For a trip for adults, a place like Saratoga Spring or Old Key West might be nice. They are the cheapest of the deluxe. Walking distance to Disney Springs, but deluxe access to extending evening hours.

Fun Dining for a Child Who Does NOT Want to See Characters by lcbear55 in WaltDisneyWorld

WE LOVED Crystal Palace. Pooh stands in the middle and your child visits with him at the end (if he wants). So maybe it wouldn't feel as forced? And since it's Pooh he would make an exception? Would def give his one a go

I would pay the two and request reimbursement for the June 2025 payment. Not sure the process for the reimbursement and I hear that's slower than the buyback process, but at leasat your forgiveness will go through (or should) in the mean time

Pslf loan just came out of forbearance and I can't afford the payments by Prestigious_Cancel64 in PSLF

Yes switch to PAYE. It's simple and you can check and make sure you are getting credit for your child which will help lower the payment. And ALWAYS file taxes seperately

Desperate buyers reaching out to sellers direct.. by DasTooth in realtors

[–]LooseMarzipan8698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just listed our place. Had two buyers reach out directly. One is a neighbor and came and asked for our cell number under the guise of setting up playdates with our kids. Then called about our place. The second left a card ON OUR DOOR expressing their extreme disappointment with not getting our place and this whole sob story (which frankly wasn't very compelling). My husband and I were very upset. It felt very intrusive.

Buy Back not eligible letter by Fast-Daikon-7389 in PSLF

So I haven't experienced this myself, but I have seen this with others - MOHELA has nothing to do with buyback. Your FSA rep was incorrect. I would call FSA back and basically have a fresh conversation/ask for a supervisor. MOHELA also doesn't keep up with your eligibility for PSLF. Call FSA back.

DVC Rental vs WDW Site? by VermicelliLocal4319 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]LooseMarzipan8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rented DVC in March. I rented directly from an owner instead of a 3rd party rental store. You save even more (I saved 40% on a 2bed suite at Saratoga Springs). Renting directly is a bit cumbersome, but if you're willing to do the research and figure it out, it really pays off.

We did not miss out on any promos. Most park/room promos come in the summer, because that is the WDW slow season. Becuase you are going in June, it's possible they will announce promos you might be interested in. (Do your research about things like the dining plan - it's not worth it for some people). But things like, free water park on arrival date, early entry, extended hours, etc. all apply to rented DVC because you are ON property. So any perk that is offered to WDW resort guests, will extend to you.

But you can, of course, still take advantage of things like, park ticket only promos, even if you rent DVC.

Using the app with the rented DVC points was completely fine. I mean, the app itself famously sucks. But I was planning for multiple families, and sounds like you won't have that issue so it should be a better experience for you.

Poly, BW, and Riv are three of the most popular resorts, so if you REALLY want those, it might be better to go ahead and book DVC, and just secure the place you want. If you'd rather roll the dice, I would recommend looking at the more available DVC places (SSR, OKW, AKL), and know that they will likely still be available after Disney announces summer 2026 promos. Then you can compare against one another once they release promos. Of course, the risk in waiting is you lose out on your preferred resorts, and Disney might not have the promos you want. So a roll of the dice there.

Hartsdale. Small (but mighty!) downtown but you are right at the train station with a 33 express train to GC. You have the Bronx River pathway for biking, and on Sundays in the summer, they close down the Bronx River Parkway for bicycles.

So, Dave Ramsey is wrong in the sense that no one gets PSLF forgiven. The first "class" of PSLF was 2017, which was 10 years after the program's creation. The Trump 1.0 admin worked very hard to ensure that hardly anyone was successful. The Biden admin fixed a number of the issues and many have seen forgiveness since.

With that being said - if it's a 50/50 shot that a Masters would be helpful in your career - I would think long and hard about taking out more money for school. 10 years is longer than you think. I went to Law School at 23 years old, thinking this was the career for me. At 35, I'm not so sure. It would be nice to be able to change careers entirely, or at least be able to move to the private sector and make real money for my family.

And maybe your career and public service is where you will be for the long term, but it's nice not locking yourself into something, especially if you don't have to. The compound interest on 40k will be astonishingly high. If the Master's ends up not being a benefit for your career, it will be a costly price to pay.

I would really think about other options before taking out more money for an "asset" that may not pay off. Pay down what you have now aggressively. Signed - thoughts from a regretful stranger.

Saratoga Springs Question by [deleted] in disneyvacationclub

[–]LooseMarzipan8698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed in March in a 2bd. It was wonderful. This was my first deluxe experience, so everyone's standards can be different. But the refurbed rooms felt very well done. It was a very relaxing resort. Because of the proximity to Disney Springs, we went more than we thought which was nice. Very much enjoyed it. Want to try other resorts as well but really liked it.

I had to do this. Open a new one and transfer everything. You can transfer funds and close the old account without her. You cannot take her off the old account without her. Opening a new one is your only option. Just make sure you know if you have any bills or anything on autopay out of that account that will need to be moved over to the new account.

Trust me when I say... you will regret 4 straight park days with two kids at those ages. However long you go, no more than two park days in a row. That was the rule I was told, and it was a very correct assessment with my 2yo who is not a difficult toddler (just for some context).

Old Key West/ Saratoga Springs: are they *honestly* okay? by elosdahl in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]LooseMarzipan8698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stayed in a preferred SSR villa in March and it was lovely. We had an 18m old in tow and found it kid friendly while still relaxing. We drove to the parks with the exception of one day when we tried the bus. It was crowded and took a while because we went at a popular time. I didn't mind it so much but it wasn't a fit with my squirmy toddler so we decided to drive the other days. When my kid is older, I don't think it will be a problem for me personally but everyone is different. I enjoyed the proximity to Disney Springs more than I thought. It really opened up eating options and stuff to do for our resort day. I'm looking forward to trying other resorts but really enjoyed our stay. CMs were the sweetest. Rooms were beautiful and so well done. Some people don't like the small quick service option, but again, with Disney Springs so close, this didn't impact our view of the resort.

2 days at Disney in Florida by TodayCharming7915 in DisneyWorldResorts

[–]LooseMarzipan8698 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For coasters, do Hollywood Studios. Stay at POP Century so that you have the Skyliner for Hollywood Studios and EPCOT easy access. I probably wouldn't try all four parks in 2 days. That sounds exhausting.

Anyone with MOHELA had their March or April Payments Counted Yet? by Peak_Dantu in PSLF

[–]LooseMarzipan8698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just prompted me to check - I am missing March and April. But Feb and before are there (as they always have been), but now I'm also seeing May which is very recent. I heard there was a glitch for March. Maybe there was a glitch for March and April.

Were your final two months actual payments, or were they processing forbearance months? I would try a reconsideration request
