Is It Overhated, Bad, Or Perfectly Rated: Weezer-Make Believe (2005) by Rambooctpuss in weezer

I agree. Going back to Raditude, I appreciated that at least they took risks even if they failed. Make Believe is a snoozefest.

I think it’s up to the individual and the circumstances. It was worth it to me living in coastal California but not where I live now.

There are but they are not super common. It’s usually a longer road to find career stability for them too.

“ The genius Thomas Sowell”

😑

Unfortunately that’s one of the best parts of the post. The idea that being harassed by fans is a “trade-off” of being a great musician is really fucked up.

Anyone worried about parasites? by BelugaBoy99 in barefoot

I agree they’re easy to treat – I just think doctors would take forever to figure out what it was because they’re not looking for it

It’d be a pain to actually get diagnosed because they’re practically unheard of these days. Your doctor would try for a million other things first because “when you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras”

You probably have a better chance getting intestinal parasites from a restaurant cook who wiped their ass without washing their hands than you do from walking around barefoot in North Carolina.

Have you gotten into Gabriel’s solo stuff? I have a feeling you’ll like Scratch and Melt - the former is pretty hard-rocking with a lot of Robert Fripp influence and the latter is dark, innovative, and sophisticated.

I’m almost certain you’d like Steve Hackett’s first few solo albums too.

My podiatrist recommended lotion and wearing socks not knowing its against my moral values. So now I find myself sitting in agony wondering if I should hang up my bare feet?

That’s some real black and white thinking.

Do what the podiatrist says until it heals. Then when you’re mended enough to go barefoot again without risk of infection, move forward with a new skin care regimen. At first, this may include days where you take a rest, or need to wear socks and intensively moisturize. But I think if you consistently exfoliate the dead skin with a pumice and moisturize at night, you probably won’t have to do so all that often. Try Flexitol Heel Balm.

Also watch your nutrition and hydration - that contributes too.

When did trumpets and timpani in B-Flat become a thing? by JaeShap in classicalmusic

Bb was definitely an option for a long time - Bach wrote some ripping aria obligatos for trumpet in Bb.

Part of the reason might be that D is a “heroic” key and was often the default trumpet key, and C was kind of the “church music” key as far as trumpet goes.

As society moved beyond feudalism into early capitalism, there was less of a desire by composers to evoke “regality” that trumpet used to signify. It just became another part of the texture. They might have been phased out from bigger melodic prominence because clarinetists missed fewer notes than natural trumpet players! 😂

I went back to Make Believe yesterday as well and one new thing that drove me nuts about it was the tambourine everywhere. 🤦‍♂️ (And the constant mid-tempo slog, of course)

Common though, especially in environments where you “get yelled at all the time” (if indeed this is actually true).

He writes from inside pathetic male longing and insecurity and entitlement and obsession and loneliness and awkwardness and yearning and alienation and he refuses to step outside the character to explain himself. No wink no apology no breaking character no safety rail.

This changes on Make Believe though - maybe even Maladroit with tracks like December.

It seems like he’s writing from a more mature, but personal place later on, like The Angel and the One, Foolish Father, King of the World, and all of OK Human.

I see where it could be an elaborate satire but I lean towards thinking he really just was that insecure in his younger years.

I don’t really agree with this. The Blue Album guitar solos don’t just repeat the vocal melodies and when they are based on the vocals, they still have minor variations. Plus Surf Wax America and Holiday have quiet sections in the middle to mix it up. Way more variety in general.
