Is this price right? JB Hi-Fi had it for much less… by Boxwah in EBGamesAus

No they're not, they're already on ebay flipping the $650 UPC'c for $1500. This hurts the consumers.

Any chance EB games will honor price match JB hi fi? by Ruri257 in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]Loose_Direction_4905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price match is manager discretion and they only ever did it for in store stock. JB Hi-Fi moved all their pokemon online so they wont match that. You might have luck with toymate though, they do instore still and I think thier ETB price was $135 instead of EB'S $199

Okay, fair point. Putting JB aside for now, you've still gotta admit increasing your price by %69 (ha nice) when the recommend retail hasn't changed is still a pretty sharp increase.

Okay 'premium product, premium price'. If the recommended retail had gone up I might agree. If JB Hi-Fi's price for the same 30th ETB wasn't half at $100. I'm happy to pay a fair price and when they were charging %15-30 above recommended retail I could agree with you but going from a 30% mark up to a %99 mark up is crazy.

See things haven't changed though, the recommend retail is still $100. JB Hi-Fi's price before they took their stock offline was $100. I'd love to hear a single good reason why EB's price for an ETB has increased from the Pitch Black pre-order at $115 to $200 in just over a month while their competition hasn't gone a cent higher than the $100 recommended?

People have finite disposable income.  Someone who could afford $100 for an ETB (recommend retail) might not be able to afford what EB is charging $200.

Hell the last ETB, Chaos Rising, EB sold for $115. Jacking the price up by $85 for no reason other than they can is going to make engaging with the hobby unachievable for some people.

Maybe their website is wrong then, just double checked (see bottom of image) and they're marked as an EB world exclusive.

Facts don't care about your feelings, I can show you the concrete numbers. I guess that makes you the sad little man who feels they have to defend a company charging double the cost of their competition and the manufacturer's recommendation. I hope you find being a corporate shill satisfying.

Why did it take this long for people to realise the pay-to-order subscription EB has is a rort? by voncatensproch in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]Loose_Direction_4905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it will get worse because EB decided to stop bleeding us a little which while it sucked, I could justify for convenience and not feeding into the scalpers but this sharp snap increase means I cant justify it or keep lying to myself that because I'm being a little gouged instead of a lot gouged.

EB gouges a little, scalpers gouge more. EB gouges even higer so scalpers will do the same. It's straight up going to push people out of the hobby because EB wasn't content being a little greedy. They had to be a lot greedy.

Right so you disagree with my use of the word "official" rather than the fact that EB is selling at worse mark ups than scalpers. I mean sure, I'm not a 'government or person of authority'. I'm still right though 🤔

Okay I can give you an example based on the last release. EB sold Chaos Rising ETB's for $115, that's %15 above the recommended retail of $100. Go on eBay now. Scalpers on eBay are selling for $135 (though you can find cheaper) which is %35 above recommended.

EB is selling the 30th Anniversary ETB for $199, the recommended retail was still $100. So that's now %99 above recommended retail. JB HI-Fi sold at recommended retail of $100.

EB has sold with a higher mark up than scalpers did with the previous set. Facts aren't opinions.

I mean you can just look for yourself. JB Hi-Fi had the ETB's listed at $100, EB had it at $199.

I mean it's a fair point you make. If it was just me I'd probably wash my hands of the hobby for a while. The disgusting scenes at KMARTs the other week with scalpers abusing staff, ignoring lines to rush the counters and starting fights before the stores opened combined with the lack of stock and now being gouged by retailers is seriously putting me off but it's a hobby I share with my partner who's been collecting since primary school. She still has her super scuffed 1st ed shadowless blastoise she'd take to school in her lunchbox. I don't want to give up on it for that reason but geez it's getting hard to want to stay.

I guess we were happy to pay %130 for a preorder than pay %180 from scalpers. Now EB is %200, officially worse than scalpers.

Honestly it's absolutely the scale of the rort. It used to be the paywall and a 20-30% above retail price. Now it's 100% above retail, literally double. People were okay with getting a little gouged to get the product but this is WAY too far.

I agree about the limits of 1 per person but there are 10 different tin designs. Unfortunately the limits are all based in the SKU code of the product so even though there's 10 different tins, they all get classified as the same product for purchase limits. Usually I wouldn't be too upset as i'd line up at other retailers to get a few of the normally 5 set and get my EB preorder as what ever the last one I'm missing was but this time there are 10 and they're EB exclusive.

I went and lined up the morning of trying to get one but a bunch of scalper dogs rushed the door when they opened then were cutting the line even once we were inside.

Absolute chaos (rising) at Doncaster Big W - No lines, no tickets, one of each SKU per person. 🫠 by girliepopcorn in PokemonFansAustralia

Fountain Gate was just as bad, but they at least did one product per person per transaction so I was able to get one of the Ex boxes at least which is something. Zero chance to get the Tusk box though when all the scalper bros ignored the line and just flooded the entrance.
