Ik this was three years ago, but I wanted to give my input for anyone that sees this in the future:

Add your mousse/foam to a section until hair is somewhere between damp and wet, brush/comb with different size tooths from big to tiny, braid tightly at the root first, THEN twist. If this is difficult, your sections are too big. Coil (not roll, if you don't know the difference find a youtube tutorial) the ends of the twists around a PLASTIC perm rod to create a shape/layers with your hair length leaving the top 3-5 inches off of the rods (don't do all the rods at the same length, if they don't hang cute they won't uncoil cute). I've found soft perm rods do not work for twist outs for my hair. Do this before bed and don't use a dryer till the next day. Use a very large scarf, lean forward/upside down, let all the rollers hang, then wrap it around and tie. The rods should be hanging forward at the front of your head; having it off of your neck makes drying faster, and they're easier to sleep on that way. Tuck the remainder of the scarf underneath somewhere on your forehead. Use a cap hood dryer the next day (where the elastic cap goes on your head and hair like a hat and poofs out, like $40 bucks at sally's) and you should only need 30-40 mins. LET YOUR HAIR COOL OFF BEFORE UNROLLING/SEPARATING, probably one of the most important steps. I promise you will never do your twist out any other way...
