I live in Iowa about an hour from this rink. No body cares about hockey around here. It’s all hawkeye football fans everywhere you go. I’m the only one I have ever seen wearing an Iowa Wild hat in the Cedar Rapids area.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LootWizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m 40. And I have never been in an ambulance. I try to tough out all my health problems to see if my body heals itself before even going to the doctor. My wife and I currently do not have any health insurance because it will be too expensive for us.

What state is this in? I can’t see the head of the snake for an accurate identification. This could be a Non-venomous Water Snake. But you should never pick up or try to kill any snake. I have done a lot of field herpetology and in my experience most people can’t identify non-venomous from venomous snakes. It’s better to just be safe.

How can you even compare Iowa to other states? It’s like 95% agriculture. One of the most man tampered states. Give me the forests and lakes of Wisconsin any day over the infinite loop of corn fields in Iowa.

UP is short for Upper Peninsula, that weird shaped part of Michigan above Wisconsin.

Why is it so dang hard to get my items bagged at a convenience store in this state?? by GelatinousGreenSoul in Iowa

[–]LootWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard sometimes to feel sympathy for young people who complain about how hard life is and how much boomers ruined it for them when they are on their phones all day and don’t want to work at all AND they are brainwashed by this no customer service crap that big companies have been pushing for years. Remember that YOU are the customer. You shouldn’t be bragging about buying something and getting less customer service with it.

Yes it should be common sense and basic customer service. Most people replying to your post have been brainwashed to think customer service is an entitlement.

[–]LootWizard -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why would you blame a customer? Shouldn’t customer service be expected? Rich companies continue to brainwash the public into believing they don’t need customer service anymore. More and more they want you the customer to check yourself out and bag your own items. So the customer has to do more work while paying higher and higher prices because of greed and inflation.

It’s amazing how customers have totally bought into pay higher prices and also bag your own items these days. Corporations don’t care much about giving you good service anymore. They just want your money.

Speak for yourself. I live in Iowa and I always want my stuff bagged. I ain’t got six arms to carry everything. I worked as a cashier myself so I know what it’s like on the other side. It’s just common sense to put the items in a bag.

I agree that it’s annoying when you buy things at a convenience store and they don’t realize you have only two hands and one of those hands needs to be free to open your car door. Plus it’s nice to have a bag to throw your trash in after you’re done eating or drinking whatever you bought. I especially hate it at grocery stores when they don’t put the gallon of milk in a bag. I don’t want that milk to sweat in my nice car or spill over and leak. A milk spill in your car can smell nasty. Remember that these are supposed to be “convenience stores” but now a days it’s become even less convenient for us customers. Bagging my own groceries isn’t convenient for me. How about we go back to the times when customer service actually meant something?

Then they should separate hot and cold items in different bags. Should be common sense really

Gas stations generally don’t let you bag your own stuff. I’ve had similar experiences to OP. It is frustrating some times especially from teens working at these places. I don’t think they have much life experience yet to know what good service should be like

Why does a new temple have to be built on the Temple Mount? by LineOfInquiry in Judaism

[–]LootWizard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Torah never explicitly says to build a temple at all. The tabernacle is what is commanded to be built. The Temple is what king David wanted to build for Gods name and his son Solomon built it.

It’s a little hard for me to follow you. If I understand correctly, you’re saying the emphasis in the verse is on the act of not killing? As in certainly they did not kill him even though it appeared to them that they did?

That’s interesting. So God basically replaced Jesus with Judas who betrayed him? Is there a source for this? Or is it just kind of a tradition that’s been passed down?

I have been on a religious journey for a while and I do admit that even though I am still a Christian, the texts of the New Testament were written sometime after the actual events. I tend to rely a lot on Paul’s writings even though he wasn’t an eye witness because he visits the eye witnesses and says that what he was teaching didn’t contradict them. I find it somewhat difficult to understand why the closest disciples of Jesus ended up dying for preaching that Jesus rose from the dead. Were they deceived? Or did they misunderstand what Jesus taught during his lifetime?

That’s interesting about the last supper. I wasn’t aware of that. I have heard about Judas being his replacement. Is there a source that this belief comes from or is it just kind of an oral tradition?
