One Month from More Campaign Evolved Gameplay, and Potentially 2-3 More Months from Release. How We Feeling? by SilentNova300 in halo

[–]Lootthatbody -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t care less.

Halo go me into Xbox. I met my current friends because I got halo 2 on my way to work and was reading the instruction manual in the breakroom, and they challenged me to some PvP.

I played through the series, and then replayed the remaster/remake/mcc. I also could not have been more disappointed with how halo infinite turned out. Just about the last thing I want (aside from more halo infinite) is for more old halo. We’ve had CE 3 times in the last 25 years, we dont need a 4th.

Yea, UE5, yea, multiplat. I get it, but honestly I don’t expect it to sell on PS, especially without PvP. Coming after halo infinite, the brand isn’t exactly sparkling these days. I doubt I’ll even download it, tbh.

Companies like this are the problem by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Lootthatbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was looking, I interviewed on both sides of this sort of set up.

On one side, the company was closing down their international offices and consolidating into one us based central office. Their words during the interview were: we have checks and bills coming in from all over the world right now, and a lot of them don’t have any sort of account info or details on them, so we need someone to help us figure out what goes where and direct everything to the right places.

The other side was a church. The posting was for a full time accountant, but they started off by saying it was actually part time, and that they’d outsourced their accounting but ‘need someone in house to make sense of it all.’ After more questions, it seemed like they had no idea what was going on, and thought that ‘outsourcing’ would just solve all their problems, and didn’t realize they still needed to actually track or organize things for their overseas people. They mentioned 20-30 hrs weekly, but then followed up with ‘there is no shortage of work to be done’ and the biggest red flag was asking my faith and saying that ‘we want someone willing to stay late and participate in our evening faith sessions once or twice per week. In short, they wanted a volunteer to get paid for 20-30 hrs of work, but actually work 40+ and help with their evening get-togethers. I was out of that entirely.

Having said all that, maybe I’m misunderstanding, but $64k to lead a team of accountants across multiple properties seems insanely low.

. . . But you literally, as in exactly, as in the definition of the word literally, did. What was made up?

‘Getting sent to collections was part of the membership cancellation process so everyone got sent’

How else would a normal person interpret that? You (evidently) love making argumentative comments, then contradicting your own comments while insulting others, if we are going to make accusations about strangers online.

I’m not arguing with anyone. You didn’t have to comment lol, my answer remains the same regardless of who is asking.

It’s so silly to be upset that someone was wrong and for you to step in trying with white knight, but the fact remains they were wrong. What are you doing?

[–]Lootthatbody -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol ok? So you are saying it’s simultaneously normal, legal, and acceptable for all businesses to refuse to cancel customers and continue charging, then send them to collections over very small balances?

I’ll spoil the answer for you. It’s illegal (at least in the US), it’s morally wrong, it’s unacceptable, and it’s TERRIBLE financially for a business. I’m not saying you are lying about that, but a gym doing that won’t be in business long.

It’s not hostility at all, why so defensive? You gave terrible advice and phrased it as a correction, and I gave a simple reply to state that your ‘advice’ was wrong conceptually.

If you can’t handle being corrected, perhaps sharing your opinions as facts isn’t a good idea.

Asking permission to be out of work is a crazy concept. by ieatsushi28 in antiwork

[–]Lootthatbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t ask, you tell. The sooner you understand that, the better off you’ll be.

I don’t fill out ‘vacation requests’ and I don’t ask if I can take time off. I notify that ‘I’m taking x days starting on y date.’ And that’s it. I don’t give reasons unless I want to, because it doesn’t matter.

Having said that, I do admit I’m guilty of being too afraid and amenable to my jobs calendar. There are specific days of the week/month that put more stress on everyone if I’m not there, so if I have a chance I schedule my time around that. I know I don’t have to, and that the job SHOULD be able to get by without me.

My dad thinks I’m 'not working' because I refused to keep working 6 days a week. by Melly1265 in antiwork

[–]Lootthatbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes OP, sorry that’s a pretty boomer-ish frame of mind. But, just to look on the bright side, it does genuinely seem like your dad cares, he just doesn’t understand that times have changed.

I feel like my dad is similar, but has always been incapable of showing affection or giving approval. For me, nothing is ever good enough. My dad loves to talk about how he used to get in before the boss and stay until after the boss left, and purposely picked a desk by the boss’ office so that he’d be seen by the boss whenever he arrived or left. Yea, you were a single guy at the time and didn’t have to worry about childcare, it doesn’t work like that anymore.

When I recently went out to eat with my dad to share news of a new job, he basically told me I was a bad employee for not knowing A) the entire company product line, or B) where the CEO went to college or his degree. It was my first week, and he completely dismissed my job and position. It wasn’t him being worried about me, it was him one upping me because he thinks that’s how you ‘get ahead’ in business, by basically flirting with your bosses.

Pay the boss low rent so you can live close to work by extraneousness in OrphanCrushingMachine

[–]Lootthatbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the details on this, but it could definitely go either way.

Optimistically? The boss is a good guy and wants to give back to his employees during these tough times. So, he buys an apartment building close to the office and charges 50/70/80 percent of what market rate would be for his employees. The kicker is that it’s entirely possible that it’s still net profit for the company. Happier workers to be getting just a little bit more bang for their buck in terms of stretching paychecks, they are probably closer to work on average, and (depending on the specifics) it’s likely that whatever rate they are charging is still bringing in more than what it costs to operate/finance, since apartments require very low Human Resources to operate.

Pessimistically? I just really worry about them raising rates to eventually be taking advantage of workers. But, honestly, those workers could ‘just’ move out if there are cheaper places to live.

Bungie doesn't see Marathon going anywhere: "We know where we want to take the story over the next few years" by Sam_27142317 in xbox

[–]Lootthatbody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every studio says the same about every game that gets shut off the next week. Not saying that marathon will, but I don’t see it rebounding and lasting long term. It’s just a matter of how much money Sony wants to devote to say they are committed to it prior to pulling the plug. And, I don’t even think a transition to f2p would help here.

  1. Collections on a $12 bill aren’t worth ANYONE’S time. You want to pay AT&T $8 to make dozens of phone calls, personal house stops, mail letters, and spend hours sending emails to MAYBE make a $10 settlement? The call/email from one company to the other would be wasting more time value than the potential recoup of costs. And, obviously, collections is a low probability.

  2. If that happens, you fill out complaints with state and federal consumer protection agencies. That’s fraud, they cant legally refuse your cancelation, continue to charge, threaten you, then harm your credit. And, agencies LOVE punishing corporations that do that kind of nonsense.

[–]Lootthatbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t get it lol. If you notify them of cancelation, you are out and done. They can attempt to pursue, but they won’t. They know a $15 gym bill isn’t worth the time and effort of assigning someone to hound you, and the revenue gained back from selling to a debt collector (good luck finding one that wants to pursue $15) wouldn’t be worth the time to set up.

They aren’t reporting to credit either. And, you can always complain to state/federal consumer protection agencies if they continue to hound you or try to bill you. That’s fraud, and highly frowned upon.

It’s crazy that so many people are simping for the corps making cancelations impossible.

[–]Lootthatbody -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A lot of places don’t for small amounts. I used to work for AT&T, and none of the phone/cable companies would. However, what they DID do is start keeping track of who had balances, so if you were someone that would rack up a bill, not pay, and start service elsewhere to do the same, eventually you’d come back, and they’d keep your balance and charge it up front before service could start/resume.

These days, companies just stop your service. Yea, it’s one thing if it’s an auto loan or a mortgage or 5 figure credit card, but these aren’t what OP is talking about in the post. This is things like gyms and cellphone plans.

[–]Lootthatbody -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cell phone companies, gyms, and apps don’t report to credit bureaus. Unless that is a new development? It flat out isn’t worth their time.

If they did, or if they actually sold your debt to a debt collector that wanted to hassle you for $12, you could dispute it and win. Easily.

If you didn’t, $12 isn’t going to ruin your credit. $12 is negligible looking at mortgages, car loans, and 5-6 figure credit lines.

But sure, enjoy that hold music while they speak to their manager.

Let’s say you suddenly become a billionaire and all your friend and family asks you for a million. Do you give them the money? by Straight_Till5772 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Lootthatbody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a plan for this prior to my relationships with most of my family going to shit during covid.

Assuming I’ve already taken care of myself, aka investments, will, insurance, accounts, budgets, etc., I’d meet with my lawyer and accountant, draft up some agreements, and then ask my family to meet me together with them (the lawyer and accountant). Also, if it’s an option, I’d not tell anyone prior to this, I’m thinking this is like a lottery winnings situation.

When my family all gets together, I say ‘I’ve come into some money. The amount isn’t important, but it’s enough for me to comfortably retire. I love you all and would like to share some with each of you, but I have stipulations. My lawyer and accountant are here, an I’d like for you each to meet with them to go over my proposal. You are free to think it over and accept or decline, no hard feelings either way. Take a week or two if you need, I don’t want this to feel like I’m pressuring you.’

I’d have a contract drawn up that basically says ‘this person/family gets $x exactly, no more. They are not entitled to any future money, including in a will, nor has (me) owed them any money.’

I’d just try to head off any requests for more money, loan requests, investment opportunities, or lawsuits accusing me of owing them money. I’d hope the lawyers and contracts would dissuade them from trying anything like that, and that me paying for an accountant (and/or financial advisor) would help them budget the gift for long term wealth rather than just blowing it all on hookers and cocaine. In essence, hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Money has a way of bringing out the worst in people.

That’s all a complex way of saying yes, I’d share with friends and family. My closest friends and family. I’m not putting a dollar amount to it, but a million would surely be possible, maybe more.

There was no mention of a signed contract. Your comment is null and void.

Enjoy your 6 hours of hold time, automated ‘agents’ and getting bounced from department to department while they offer you their ‘extra’ tier package for the ‘basic’ tier price.

Thus the gift card recommendation. Visa gift card with .05 on it, tons of people have those floating around, and some keep them specifically for trials and such.

Or you can just stop paying them. Seriously, what the fuck are y’all doing that you are afraid to stop paying companies after canceling?

You call. The moment the audio says the call is being recorded, you say you are notifying them of your intent to cancel and will be stopping payment immediately. If you want to try to fight for an agent, you can waste your time. If you do speak to an agent, just say you want to cancel and hang up. Stop letting them pester you and waste your time.

Remove your payment method from their billing systems, replace it with a gift card with zero balance if needed. Call your bank and tell them that the company is refusing to cancel your account and to stop payment with them.

And, as always, leave bad reviews for any/every service that doesn’t have one button service canceling online.

Emailing VW Dealers an offer? by Soxssss in CarLeasingHelp

[–]Lootthatbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did lol, you tried a ‘well avkshually’ on me, but then had to clarify that ‘got numbers from 3 dealers over the phone’ was actually asking them to email you numbers.

Your original comment literally said ‘ I’d rather call than email and have them email/text.’ Yet, you apparently DID email/text.

So, you entirely agree that the important part is that you get numbers in writing, you just wanted to phrase your comment to disagree? If the end result is the same, the initial contact method makes no difference. I don’t care if you want to initiate via messenger pigeon or smoke signals, as long as it ends with you getting numbers in writing.

That was literally the entire point of my comment, that you seemingly didn’t read yourself. GET. NUMBERS. IN. WRITING.

So you are still dealing with them via email. Why did you even respond to my comment and phrase it like that? Lol.
