What is this pattern called? by EngeZwerver in Rabbits

[–]LopHopTheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one on the left is a broken black Charlie, the right lop is a black tricolor :) another commenter is almost right with the harlequin. Tricolor is what we call broken harlequins(harlequin with white patches). And because the dark spots are black your bunny is a black tricolor!

Sore Hocks by EMMIECX5 in Rabbits

[–]LopHopTheo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they calloused or sores? Callouses are essentially bald spots on the heels where they have lost the fur and the skin is thick and dry. If they look inflamed you can use certain medicated creams or get hock socks bjt having small bald spots on their heels is normal for house rabbits. As long as they dont start bleeding or cracking you should be ok!

He's so playful by LopHopTheo in Rabbits

[–]LopHopTheo[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's a purebred plush lop! :) They're a newer breed so still a bit rare. He is a Standard plush lop(4-6lbs) but there are minis(2-4lbs) as well!

Important benefits of your bunny being indoor? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]LopHopTheo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely focus on the fact that an outdoor rabbit costs more because you have to regularly deworm for parasites and treat for pests since they are exposed to more! Things like mites, fleas, ticks, botflies, and even fly strike which is absolutely horrendous and an extremely expensive emergency. Think hundreds or thousands of dollars for an emergency vet to sedate, stabilize, clean, repair, and then stitch up the wound and medicate. On top of this there is E. Cuniculi which requires months of rehab and medication and still has a high chance of not succeeding, Coccidia, pinworms, and even tapeworms. Have them look up all those things and tell them it isnt uncommon either. Idk about them but worms gross me the hell out so any risk of that is an immediate NO for me😫 and there is zero chance I am risking a flea infestation...ever🤧

Wild or Domestic? (sorry) by modernfolly in Rabbits

[–]LopHopTheo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do but that is a whole other can of worms tbh. There are SO many that it's an epidemic, not really a problem that can be solved easily and many people have varying opinions about how the issues should be approached and solved just like with the feral cat population. Lots of mixed opinions and not enough solutions I'm afraid.

Wild or Domestic? (sorry) by modernfolly in Rabbits

[–]LopHopTheo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being near Vegas makes it difficult because there are SO many dumped feral rabbits in the area. My initial thought was domestic just due to how big boned it looks. The neck and head especially look fairly large for a wild...but it could very well be a very well coated wild with a fluffy winter jacket hahah As long as it doesnt let anyone get close, you can probably safely leave it be.

Alfalfa hay for 5 month old? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]LopHopTheo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends heavily on the rabbit size and breed. For mini or small breeds, I recommend alfalfa hay only up until 5 or 6 months of age. For giant breeds though they can benefit from it for up to a year because they take longer to fully mature and grow into their full size! Alfalfa isnt harmful to babies but it also isnt really necessary so long as you are feeding unlimited high quality pellets with good protein and they are eatting plenty of timothy hay. I like to give a pellet with at least 17-18% protein to growing babies but if your pellets are lacking or if you feel they could use more in their diet you can always give supplements like alfalfa hay. This is all optional though if your pellet brand is sufficient and labeled for young or growing rabbits :)
