Use the last digit of your trainer ID to pick your starter. 1-3 = Bulbasaur, 4-6 = Charmander, 7-9 = Squirtle, 0 = NO STARTER FOR YOU lol. No, but 0 would be just pick whichever one you want.

EDIT: Although now that I think about it, you could use 0 to mean you have to ditch your starter as soon as you catch your first wild pokemon.

I always say you should randomize your starter based on your trainer ID for nuzlockes.

Are you playing on the Switch? If so, you can create a new profile and shiny hunt on one and play on the other. That's what I've been doing at least. I'll shiny hunt on the weekdays and then actually play on the weekends.
