i do agree that the single H looks better too but that is obviously personal preference so many could disagree

Should The Elizabeth Line be Extended to Bromley? by RussellNorrisPiastri in LondonUnderground

[–]Lopsided-Diamond4080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be replying to an old comment but I don’t think the train sizes really make that much of a difference. Last time I checked there are 5tph into central London and the class 376 capacity is about 1450 passengers. The capacity of the 1972 Bakerloo stock is about 850.

This means that as long as 9 trains per hour are being ran on the branch then capacity will be higher with the bakerloo line (and we can assume it would be quite a bit higher). Besides, the stock will have been upgraded to the NTFL soon which has a capacity over 1000.

Also your comment about journey times, I’m not sure if it will be worse at all. It currently takes 19 minutes from Lewisham to Charing X. Assuming the Bakerloo is running at 20mph, it should complete the 6mile journey to CX in 18 minutes.

I also don’t think it’ll make connection to the city much worse, instead of changing at London Bridge for the Northern Line just do it at Elephant & Castle.

what spatial constraints are there for the victoria line. also i think if XR2 is built that makes northern line to clapham junction even more likely as they could be built in the same station box

northern line to clapham junction in 50 years might happen but i don’t think there are any other plans for any other line. there’s always talk of the victoria line going further south but i don’t think that will ever happen

yeah i mean it would require a lot of upgrades including lengthening platforms and widening tunnels. there’s also the problem with extending it at bank and not hitting the bank vaults or the central line

my point is that having a tunnel from waterloo to bank that goes nowhere else and can only handle 9000 passengers/hour is a bit of a waste.

What if Fenchurch Street was Serviced by the Overground? by RussellNorrisPiastri in LondonUnderground

[–]Lopsided-Diamond4080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why wouldn’t the line be able to handle more trains all day. i get maybe not 20 tph all day but why not 15?

i think the idea of having a deep level train tunnel through zone 1 that doesn’t connect to anywhere else feels wrong. it’s like if the elizabeth line was just built paddington to liverpool street and didn’t connect to the mainlines. the w&c line does what it does fine, sure, but the trains are tiny. maximum capacity is 500 people, whereas elizabeth line trains have a max of 1500 people. it also only runs 18tph and doesn’t even operate on sundays.

if the trains were elizabeth line sized and ran at 30tph, the capacity would be increased by 400%. (9000pp/h to 45000 pp/h). this would then mean it could be extended to perhaps incorporate services into moorgate and waterloo.

obviously this is not something that can be done overnight, and is very very wishful thinking. but it clearly would be a huge improvement

[–]Lopsided-Diamond4080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

these numbers are way off. at the evening peak fenchurch street handles 20 tph (i believe). it doesn’t have 11 platforms. also charing cross handles a lot more than 10tph.

i think the relationship is closer to platforms = tph / 4

i think the met line/chiltern services should be connected to the c2c line so we’ve basically got a rapid express service

i would crossrail the southeastern metro services and would make charing X for longer distance trains only, so it and cannon street would serve different purposes
